She-Rain - Book Review

I just finished She-Rain by Michael Cogdill.
I have to tell you, trying to find a minute to read in this house lately has been like trying to find a needle in a haystack!
But, I finally found the time (after getting the boys to read a book for themselves!)

I hate to say it, but this book took quite a bit of time for me to get into...
I kept trying to read it and it seemed like I was just not going to be able to read it...

I really do not know why, but it just seemed as though I was having a hard time placing the characters or something... I still can not explain it!
THEN, all of a sudden, something happened and I could not stop reading!
It was like if I stopped reading, I would not have the chance to finish the book!
I am so glad I stayed with it and kept reading, for this book is a beauty to read!

She-Rain tells the tale of a poor, innocent boy that lives a hard life most of us will never, ever have to endure. Frank Locke Junior is a boy living as best as he can to be the man he knows he needs to be. His dad is a good for nothing and his mom seems to hang on to the memory of a love of a man she once knew.
Through plenty of hard times, Frank Junior finds a love, in Mary Lizabeth, that will cross many mountains going to show that hope and faith can get you through, if only you believe! Many things happen to Frank that makes him grow into manhood way to fast, but luckily... He falls into the arms of a young woman named Sophia, wise beyond her age with a storied past that will keep the pages turning as you try to figure it all out! Frank must deal with heartbreak, as well as temptation, trusting that he knows what to do. Your heart breaks for Frank and all that life throws at him, but at the same time, you are so happy that he has found someone like Sophia to help make the hurt somewhat bearable!

Here is the book synopsis:

In the early 20th Century, a pair of North Carolina mountain children sow the seed of a love that becomes their only solace in the hard yet beautiful world they know. They grow it from steep ground of poverty, ignorance, and violence. A landscape so brutal it can kill hope long before claiming life.

Bloodshed years later finally sends Frank Locke on the run, deep into wilderness, abandoning his extraordinary love, Mary Lizbeth. When a whitewater river washes this desperate soul into the hands of Sophia, he discovers a luminous woman steeped in mystery, trapped in a tragically brilliant life. Far ahead of her time. Secreted from the world. As she awakens Frank's mind, they rise to meet a love that binds three people for a lifetime.

This love triangle forms a beauty no one sees coming. From the wilds of Appalachia, crossing nearly a century, it runs deep into a lush American fortune, and lives in letters of adoration and hope of the least expected.

In a rhapsody of Southern voices, mingling hilarity and sorrow, She-Rainspeaks of lives soaring beyond heartbreak, fundamentalism, and self-destruction. Through the most graceful longing, two women in love with one man ultimately prove the power of human hearts to answer high callings. They show us all how to heal -- and thrive -- to the very end.

This book is a page turner that pulls at your heartstrings.
Although it is a "Story of Hope," it is also a story to remind you that your thoughts and actions have an impact on everyone... Being judgmental towards one just does not affect that one person, many lives can change!
