Shiny Happy People - Review

I love the holidays.  It seems a bit forced for some... and rushed for most... but I love that families TRY to come together.  I mean, it is sad that sometimes the only time you see them is at the holidays, but it really is better than nothing, right?  For me, I love the family time.. The love, the traditions, the giggles and the laughs.  That being said, I thought today, the DAY AFTER CHRISTMAS was a perfect time to share this book with you...  Shiny Happy People!    FTC Compliant Review Policy:    The product(s) featured in this review were provided free of cost to me by the manufacturer or representing PR agency for the sole purpose of product testing. Image
Do you remember the first day of school drop off for your little one?  I do!  With Broxton, I was so blessed to know his teacher from church, so that helped.. but man I bawled when I got in the car!  Same thing for Savannah, it isn't like it gets any easier... The book, Don't Go To School takes a new spin on things when it is the mama being upset not wanting the little one to go to school.  Cute book that Savannah and I loved. So make sure to grab it for you and your little ones to enjoy! Luna Finds Love Everywhere #review #raisingareader

Image
As I have said before, we love donating books to our local little free library.  We do keep some for our own library at home (To be honest, I think we have at least one or two books in every single room in our house.)   Not all books are kept or shared with the LFL in our area, some I think are better shared with the kids libraries, so in that case, we end up donating to both of their schools. While reading Luna Finds Love Everywhere, I saw that this would be best shared in the schools so more kids could have access to it.    FTC Compliant Review Policy:    The product(s) featured in this review were provided free of cost to me by the manufacturer or representing PR agency for the sole purpose of product testing. Anzu the great Kaiju #Review #RaisingaReader

Image
If you have been around, you know that I have a couple of Little Free Libraries in my hometown.  I love reading books with Savannah, but there are so many children out there that can not say they OWN their very own book.  That breaks my heart!  So, we get books to review, we read and love them and then we pass along some to the community.  Maybe they are read and returned, maybe they are claimed as one they can own and love over and over again.  A perfect book that we will be adding is ANZU THE GREAT KAIJU.  This is a cute book about spreading joy and kindness.  I mean, who doesn't like spreading joy and flowers and making others happy????? Mrs. Selfe's Zoo School of Art #Review

Image
A cute book with a great message, that is what Mrs. Selfe's Zo School of Art is!  As we meet each character of the book, we see that they are struggling with finding the best way to express themselves.  Thankfully, Mrs. Selfe is there to help show each one the best way to succeed!   This is a great read to enjoy at home, or share with friends!   FTC Compliant Review Policy:    The product(s) featured in this review were provided free of cost to me by the manufacturer or representing PR agency for the sole purpose of product testing. Be A Good Friend Like Russell - Tales of Russell Rabbit #Review #RaisingAReader

Image
This past year I have been fortunate enough to add two "little free libraries" to our community.  I am thankful that I get to review books and not only share them with you, but also share with those in our community.  Not everyone can get to a library and lets be honest, sometimes you fall in love with a book and want to keep it...   I  heard once that there are so many children that do not even have one book that they can call their own, so I am trying to do my part to change that.  I was recently sent Tales of Russell Rabbit for review.  I will be honest, when I opened the book I thought, man... that is A LOT of words for a kids book... but then it hit me... TALES.. meaning that we get stories in there, not a big ol' book!  This is a cute book that has several tales in there, most around a couple pages with a picture in it.  This would be a great bed time book, as they are short stories that will get some giggles... like a rabbit making a c...

The Ghostly Tales of The Haunted South - #Review #CountdownToChristmas

Image
I don't know what age you start liking spooky stories, but Broxton does and Savannah says she does, but we don't tell real "spooky ones" right now.  I was given the chance to review The Ghostly Tales of The Haunted South by Allen Brown and I was just as eager to read it for myself as I was to give it to Broxton!  Since I am in Georgia - and we go to New Orleans each year, I thought this would be a great read!  I love how they are short stories and even include a few pictures along the way!  I was going to give it to Broxton now, but I have decided to wrap it up to be one of the books in our book countdown to Christmas!  I can't wait to hear what he has to say about it, but I know this... I bet he is going to be asking for a road trip or two in the future!  FTC Compliant Review Policy:    The product(s) featured in this review were provided free of cost to me by the manufacturer or representing PR agency for the sole purpose of product testing. Travels With Parky Pigeon - Flying to Our Local LFL #REVIEW #AD

Image
Travels with Parky Pigeon is a book that we were able to review.  It was a cute book about a Pigeon that just wasn't like his family...  while he tried his best, it just did not work out that way! At the end of the book, there was a section called "Parky's World View" I really enjoyed it and actually learned a bit from it!  Like, did you know that "27,000 trees are felled each day for toilet paper.  Paper can be recycled only 6 times- after that the fibers are too weak to hold together." This was Episode 1 - So check out the series to see what Parky is up to next!  We are actually about to go donate this to one of our local Little Free Libraries, so someone else can enjoy!  FTC Compliant Review Policy:    The product(s) featured in this review were provided free of cost to me by the manufacturer or representing PR agency for the sole purpose of product testing. Let's go on an Adventure with Grandmasaurus #Review #Ad

Image
Well, we were sent an interesting book for review.   The Adventures of Grandmasaurus at the Aquarium Rescue Centre.  I think it gave me the feels of The Magic School bus.  You know how the teacher shrinks and they go on adventures and teach the class?  Well, in this book Grandma sneezes and transforms into animals.  In doing so, it makes the kids go on a treasure hunt of sorts to find her and while doing that, it teaches the reader of different animals.  Bonus points, a sheet at the end that tells the name, the pronunciation and a brief description.  I really thought this was a cute way to teach and have fun at once.  I hope that Grandma goes on other adventures and teaches us more soon!!!! The Mystery of Miss Hill's Missing Glasses #review #raisingareader

Image
Another great book was in our mailbox!!!!   We were sent The Mystery of Miss Hills' Missing Glasses for review and as soon as Savannah saw it, we had to jump on the couch and dive on in!   As we took turns reading the pages (She could have read the whole thing, but she was in a hurry so we took turns!) we were trying to figure out where the glasses would be found.  Savannah loved looking at the pictures going along and seeing the facial expressions of the kids.  Once we finished the book, Savannah wanted to go back through it again and look at the pages, the words, the illustrations.  It was a great book and one we will enjoy adding to our library!   FTC Compliant Review Policy:  The product(s) featured in this review were provided free of cost to me by the manufacturer or representing PR agency for the sole purpose of product testing. Am I a Unicorn? #Review

Image
If you know my daughter, you know that unicorns are a big deal in our house these days.  Well, truth be told, if you know ANY younger girl, you know that unicorns are a big deal in the world!   When we were given the opportunity to review a new book, I knew we would not turn it down.  A book - Yes!   A unicorn - Yes!   UNICORN BOOK?!  MAJOR WIN!!!!!!! Nothing sweeter than hearing my sweet girl read to me!   I love her little voice!   She has enjoyed this book and I love it too!  I loved to start her school year off with it too!  It is about a unicorn who has lost its horn, so duh... it is different as it isn't like all unicorns!...

We all could use a little more LOVE #review

Image
I am a lover.  Always have been, always will be.  I love LOVE and love showing love and being loved.  When we were given the chance to review the board book, Love by Casey Rislov, I knew this would be a great one.  With the way the world is now... and the fact that everyone seems to be having babies, this would be a great gift to give.  ( My friend had everyone give us books instead of cards for my baby shower and I LOVED that idea!)   FTC Compliant Review Policy:    The product(s) featured in this review were provided free of cost to me by the manufacturer or representing PR agency for the sole purpose of product testing. Sweet Penny and the Lion - #SummerReading #Ad #Review

Image
Although it is summer, we still need to keep their minds fresh.  Reading is always a great joy for me and I hope to pass it along to the kids. Broxton used to love it, but now he is trying to not be a fan of it... Lucky for me, Savannah still enjoys and there is nothing like her asking me to let her read me a book!   I wanted to update a post from back in the day as it is a good read that I want to introduce her to it again.   Sweet Penny was a good read and I have to admit I love the photos!    FTC Compliant Review Policy:    The product(s) featured in this review were provided free of cost to me by the manufacturer or representing PR agency for the sole purpose of product testing. Remember to Smile #Review #COVID19

Image
One thing is for certain, COVID 19 changed so many things about life as we once knew it.  Now, instead of asking the kids if they have their school work and what not, you have to make sure to ask if they have their mask.  Masks are required for transportation to/from school, as well as in classes.   We wear them at work, but ours are provided to us.  One thing I do miss?  Seeing people smile!   I smile with my eyes and notice others too, but a big ol' toothy grin can melt hearts!    FTC Compliant Review Policy:    The product(s) featured in this review were provided free of cost to me by the manufacturer or representing PR agency for the sole purpose of product testing. Summer Reading - Book One - Drawn Together #ad

Image
As you know, we love reading and with summer now here, I want to kick off a summer reading extravaganza!  Today I want to share the first of many books that you should read this summer.  Up first, drawn together, it was written by Minh Le and illustrated by Dan Santat.  I will admit that this book is not one I would make a point to purchase, but I am glad that we were sent the book. It shows that although there are many things in life that will make things difficult, if you look hard enough, you will find a way to draw closer together.          FTC Compliant Review Policy:    The product(s) featured in this review were provided free of cost to me by the manufacturer or representing PR agency for the sole purpose of product testing. Benji and The 24 Pound Banana Squash #Review #Raisingareader

Image
You know how sometimes you want immediate results, but it doesn't work out that way for you?  Well, in this book... we have Benji that has seeds from the previous summer.  He wants to plant it and grow a squash, but it just is not time... Finally the time has come, but it does not give him results as quick as he wants.  He loves and nourishes and it proud with his results.  It is funny to me that a kids book helped me to remember that things take time and to not try to rush through things... Twinderella #BookReview

Image
Having twin cousins, it is time to share this story with them...  You have heard of Cinderella, but have you heard of Tinderella?  It is Cinderella's twin sister!  Yes, what a cute story about twins and splitting and sharing!   I thought it was cute and a great read!!!! In “Twinderella”, a modern spin on Charles Perrault’s classic tale Cinderella, we meet Cinderella’s lesser-known twin, Tinderella. The two split everything right down the middle. They each do half the housework, half the mending, and half the mean step-sister tending.

Elly and the Smelly Sneakers - (Would you choose Sneakers or Slippers?)

Image
Not all little girls want to wear dresses and play princess, I am learning that these days!  Savannah will just as soon grab her brothers cars, trains and army men to play with as fast as she will play with her barbies or dolls.  I don't force either on her and figure she can play with whatever makes her happy.  Another cute book arrived for us to review from Sterling Publishing and it keeps on with that theme for us. In a different take on the Cinderella Story we know, this one is opposite.  Elly and the Smelly Sneakers has us meet Elly...
