The Art of Silliness #Holidaygiftguide

Let me start by saying that I do not have a problem with technology..
Saying that, I will follow it up with the fact that I do love when kids (and adults alike) can entertain themselves without needing a television or phone or computer or gaming system.
I grew up LOVING art..
I took art history classes... Color theory...
Yes, some were required for my major, but some were just for the enjoyment.
I can not draw or paint for the life of me, but its fun..   Especially when you are NOT being critiqued!  When I had the chance to participate in a blog tour for the latest book, The Art of Silliness, I was excited...   No matter if it was for me to do, or to do with the boys when they are here... I wanted to see what it was all about!
The Art of Silliness is a totally different book.
It says it is " A Creativity Book for Everyone" and I agree.

What I enjoy about this book is that it starts and tells you to pick whatever you want to use..
You can use a pencil, a marker, a pen.. It is up to you... and to make sure you enjoy what you are doing!!! Then, each page gives a different activity.
Get this though, it isn't simple things like "draw a circle" or anything...
No, how silly is that?
It is a bit more...
Like the first activity:
Draw a Bird.   They even have the bird they want you to draw... but its not that easy...
You have one of three ways to draw it...
One - eyes closed.  Two- with your non-dominant hand.  Three - both

Ha ha ha...
I think that is going to provide hours of fun for us...
I might try and see if the boys might want to try when they are here..
(They normally have to be glued to ALL electronics, so it might not work...  but I do want to try, I think it would be fun and a way to show our creativity...)
This book also has other activities, from drawing with a single line (can't cheat and draw over the line you already drew) to connecting the dots (but it can be loopy lines or jagged lines, it doesn't have to be straight!)

I have enjoyed looking at the book and I can not wait to play along and see how creative I can be (especially knowing that I don't have to be graded on it!)

If you have someone on your gift list... Think outside the box...
Think about this.. not just for art fans or for kids... but for anyone that might need a way to express their creativity and their silliness.

  2. I can't draw a straight line, one of younger gal who turned 7 is showing a little talent for art,and she likes to work out different puzzles. We work on quite a few together, it makes a great time to bond with her. She helped me quite bit when I work in PSP or Photoshop.. I can take a shape and make it into a graphic, she is the one that inspired me to make the graphics for our blog.

  3. I love the thought of giving this to someone who doesn't think of themselves necessarily as creative -- we all are....you've given me some ideas. I'd love to get a copy of this!
