When I'm A Surgeon #RaisingAReader #ChristmasCountdown

Another day, another book for our Christmas Countdown!  This book was a good one, being that I work in an orthopedic office with orthopedic surgeons!  It was nice to let her learn about the kind of doctors I work for!

Dreaming is Believing
The concepts introduced in the book include managing a crisis, community responsibility, teaching, decision making, lifelong learning, scientific research, communication, entrepreneurship, leadership and combing a career with parenting.
In hands-on, practical terms, it allows youngsters to visualise and identify with becoming a surgeon and instils a belief that becoming a surgeon is achievable.  It builds self-confidence and self-efficacy and strongly identifies surgery as a rewarding career choice for females.

In the Author’s Words
“Once children have a vision and believe in their goals, anything is possible,”
“Being a surgeon has allowed me to develop skills beyond my expectations. My dream is to have more young women believe that they too can become surgeons.”
“I believe that the advantages for surgical mums outweigh the sacrifices. Surgery has taught me communication, leadership, wisdom, judgment, financial literacy, stress management, decision-making under pressure, teaching and training others, and handling a crisis - often in the middle of the night. What better training is there for a parent?”

We really enjoyed this book, like I said... I work for orthopedic surgeons, so it was nice to read this book with Savannah and let her see more about the doctors I work for.  I really liked how it showed how surgeon's stitch people, but also make good choices.  They always are learning, but are also teaching and training others.  Also, sadly.. most times books are written about doctors/surgeons the character is a male, this was a nice change having a female as the lead!

What are you reading?
