I will be the first to admit that I am always a bit skeptical about milk.   In restaurants, I worry that they have left it out... and as soon as it expires, I will not use it at home.. Maybe because I am not a big fan of just drinking milk, so I am always worried I might not know if it is safe to drink or not...
I am lucky that Broxton loves to drink milk, so we go through it pretty regularly here...
But, when we are planning on going out of town or something, I am always hesitant to buy a new thing of milk...   I have always said I wanted to try the "shelf stable" milk... but I was always second guessing myself. What if I bought it and he hated it?  What if I bought it and it was bad?  I am good at questioning myself, if you can not tell...
A couple of years ago, we had a really bad ICE STORM.  Of course, you can imagine the grocery stores... Out of milk, bread... you name it... it was bad...   Well, we were stocked up for the most part before the storm came... but I was sure enough worried if we were not able to get out, how was I going to get milk for Broxton?
Image : Milk Unleashed

I was so excited to have the chance to review the shelf stable milk recently... and I was surprised at how it worked...  Basically, you have this milk and you can store it on the shelf.. (Good thing, since its "shelf stable!") It doesn't have to be refrigerated until it is opened!!!
We were sent a wide variety of it and I was surprised that we all liked it.  I will be honest, as soon as I saw "organic" on it... I was worried about Marc and Broxton liking it.  So, I just did not say anything...

How could I not want to try it after reading this:
Since shelf safe milk does not require refrigeration until opened, single-serving cartons can be taken to school, on camping trips, to sporting events or any other adventures without worrying about spoilage.  You can freeze it the night before so it’s just the right temperature at lunch…but if you don’t get around to drinking it – no problem…put it back on the shelf (it will last 6 – 9 months).

According to the Journal of Pediatrics, dairy and calcium intakes are inadequate in four- to 18-year-olds. In fact, only 30 percent of the US population two years of age and older get the recommended level of calcium or more.  Plus, most kids do not get enough Vitamin D, potassium and protein, either. The good news -- all of these important nutrients are found in shelf safe milk.

I remember going on vacation with Broxton... It was hard to do because of needing to keep the milk cold...  Had I bought this shelf stable milk, we would have been good to go... Load it up in the car and no worries.   Now I know!!!  We first tried it one day just out of the blue... Broxton was not a fan, until I put it in the fridge first... then, he drank it just like it was his regular milk!  I tried another kind when we were ready to go out of town and I did not want to buy more milk.. Once again, he drank it without thinking twice!  I used it in our cereal one morning and I was not able to tell the difference... The best for me?  I like chocolate milk.. every now and then.  (Not enough to purchase to keep... and I would rather not have to make it myself.... and I tend to get a but syrup happy!)  Well, I tried the chocolate milk we were sent and I was in love! Now, I can just keep it on hand for whenever we need/want ... for drinking at home, or on the go.... and we are all set!!!!

Remember to follow Milk Unleashed on Facebook and Twitter... You can also check out the Milk Unleashed website to stay up to date on nutrition and other information.

Have you ever had shelf stable milk?  What did you think?

There is nothing like walking into a home and noticing a nice aroma.  No, I am not talking about a knock you in the face scent... but a welcoming scent that is pleasant.   We were recently sent the limited edition National Park Collection from Air Wick and I tell you, they all smell great and really invite your senses to make your brain want to plan a trip to one of these locations.

I do not have anything negative to say... except that I wish they were not LIMITED EDITION scents...  I love them all.  I even tried figuring out which was my least favorite... Talk about a tough job!!!

I did have a hard time figuring out the one that I could say was ultimate favorite...
As soon as I opened the American Samoa, I was transported to a beach... the smells... wow, they really captured it and I know that this is for sure to be a scent that we will use!!!  It literally made me feel like I was walking along the beach and I was in love!  (I am not even a beach person, since I burn so easy... but the smells of the beach... coconut... always make me wish I was there!)
The other?  Grand Canyon!!!!  I am normally not a huge fan of flowery scents.. but this was just a hint of floral... but the best was as soon as Broxton got a whiff... he was just as happy as I was smelling it!  I do know that for now, this will be the aroma that greets anyone that comes in the front door!!!!

The National Parks Collection is available in all of their product lines, Reed Diffusers, Scented Oils, Scented Candles and even the Auto Sprays.

D.I.Y. Beauty Recipe

I know Spring Break is going on all around us...
So, what better time to share a Do It Yourself Beauty Recipe when you need a bit of time to rest and rejuvenate?    This post contains two beauty recipes from Julieanna Hever, best-selling author and host of one of Veria Living’s newest programs, What Would Julieanna Do?

Do-it-Yourself Beauty Recipes:

Breakfast Moisturizing Face Mask: Mash 1/2 banana well with a fork, combine about 1/4 - 1/2 cup rolled oats, and drizzle about 1 TB almond milk to the mixture to create a paste. Apply to face using a circular motion as a scrub and then leave on for 15 minutes. Rinse and remove with a warm washcloth and follow up with the Soothing Facial Moisturizer: drizzle 3-4 drops lavender essential oil into approximately 1 TB coconut oil, mix, and apply to face.

Hair Growth-Stimulating Treatment: Brew a cup of green tea. Add 1 TB mustard powder and 1 TB cayenne pepper, the contents of 1-2 vitamin E capsules, and 1 TB jojoba oil to the tea and mix well. In the shower, apply mixture to the scalp and rub in gently, using the pads of your fingers for a few minutes. Allow to sit while washing your body. Rinse and follow up with natural, chemical-free shampoo and conditioner. Perform treatment weekly until you notice hair growth.

What Would Julieanna Do? airs weekdays from 7:00 to 7:30 pm ET/PT on Veria Living.

Hosted by Julieanna Hever, What Would Julieanna Do? is a lifestyle-oriented talk show focusing on everyday topics as "getting your kids to eat better" and "treating menopause" to "rekindling the spark in your marriage" and "getting back in shape for your high school reunion."

Nighty-Night, Sleep Tight @SterlingBooks

If you are looking for a cute bedtime book, I have just read another cute one!!!

Broxton loves for us to snuggle and read together, trying to grab as many as he can at bedtime!
The latest book we have read is Nighty-Night, Sleep Tight by Jennifer Berne.
It is from Sterling Publishing and is so cute!!!!
In Nighty-Night, Sleep Tight, we learn of such a wide variety of animals that are all preparing for sleep as well.  From the Bahama Iguana to the Scarlet Macaws...  We see each of them snuggling up and cuddling for a nice nights sleep.  The little girl reading the book is so full of imagination that she pictures herself there with each as they ready for bed....  The book ends with all the animals sending her night time kisses!
I loved the sing-song rhyming of the book.  It was cute enough to be enjoyed by little ones, but not so full of excitement to keep them awake....   The illustrations are full of colors that grabs the attention of the reader, but it isn't bright as to be distracting... It is peaceful!
We love reading this book and know it is going to be in our night time collection!!!

Get Movin' and Shakin' with Lisa Loeb's Latest Book! @SterlingBooks

As much as I love reading with Broxton, I do love when he is up and playing as well.
How much fun have we had "reading" the latest from Lisa Loeb?

You might remember her beautiful voice from that song, Stay.
Well, she has released a new book that comes with a CD to get you "Movin' and Shakin'!"

I opened the book and flipped through, before we put the CD on...
Several of the songs are songs that I remembered from MY childhood, so I was eager to listen!
We put the CD on while Broxton was playing in the sandbox and it wasn't long before he was over with me and not playing in the sand!!!!

Lisa Loeb's Songs for Movin' and Shakin' was thoroughly enjoyed by the both of us!
I loved listening to Father Abraham and Miss Mary Mack (take me back to being a kid right there) but he absolutely LOVED the Monster Stomp!!!! They also threw in a song to get kids to wake up. (We might be using that sometime soon!)  I also loved how they ended it with Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes!  The only thing that I am not totally in love with was the song, Going Away.  Broxton felt that the song was sad... and I do admit I loved the fast paced of the others and wish it had been replaced with something more upbeat.  The lyrics were cute, but I just wish it would have been another like the Monster Stomp!!  We had fun and I know that we will be enjoying this more during the summer when we are out playing and enjoying this beautiful weather!!!!

Lisa Loeb's beautiful voice makes it a pleasure to listen to... and the book provides great illustration and lyrics for those that might not be familiar with the songs!!!!

There are times where I send in items I have been reviewing for Broxton's class to enjoy..
This CD / Book is going to be headed that way soon!!!!

Over 150 Recipes - Meals In a Jar @UlyssesPress

Meal time can either be a good thing or a bad thing in our house...
Marc works weird schedules many of the days, so we never really get to have dinner with him on any type of schedule...   It also makes it a bit more difficult to try and plan anything meal wise, as who knows when he will be eating...
We normally have dinner and then whenever Marc gets home, just just heats up his and we go on about our day...  I saw the information on Meals In a Jar and I knew that this was something that I would really love to read!
The only thing was, I was thinking it was a bit different.  I thought it was more along the lines of placing items in there and then making it when it was time... I did not realize it was more along the lines of canning...
I will say that I am still super glad that I was able to review this, as I see there are many ideas I can use...

I had actually thought that it would be fun (and maybe a bit economical) to try canning... now I see I can do so much more than just fruits/veggies!!!  Meals In a Jar has a bit of everything in it.  You start the book learning to differentiate the meals.  These are called "ready made" and there are three types:  Dry, Pressure Canned and Combined.   You also learn about Pressure canning and Water canning... I tell you, I learned so much from reading this book.  There is even a chapter in there that is titled "Ingredients, Equipment and Supplies,"  I tell you, they want to help you make the most out of your meals in a jar!!

For those already familiar with canning and dehydrating, you can just skip straight to the recipe section...
This book contains several recipes for you to try out...
Breakfast isn't just cereal in here.. you can also do omelets, bacon & eggs and more!!!! (Biscuits and Gravy anyone?  Its in here too!)  I knew that there would be recipes for soup, but they really give you quite a selection...   some with veggies, some with meat... all to make everyone reading it hungry!!!   Meals in a Jar also contains pasta dishes, main dishes, side dishes, desserts and even snacks!!!

If you are one that likes to can... or if you are interested in learning more...
I highly recommend checking out Meals In a Jar.  Reading this, with the directions that seem very easy, I am really looking forward to doing this!!!

Meals in a Jar basically has the meal ready to go... You just add water...
So for our house, if I want a salad for the night, Marc could just go grab a jar of whatever he was in the mood to eat and I could finish cooking it right then!!!   This would also add more fun (and flavor) for those that like to camp....   Or if you want to have a stockpile for preparedness.... Or if you want to take a meal to a sick friend... Or a meal to someone that just had  a baby .... Or someone that just lost a loved one...  do you see where I am going with this?  This works great for many occasions!!!

Stone Soup... and Other Stories from the Asian Tradition #Scholastic #StorybookTreasures

I feel as though Scholastic has been around for as long as I can remember...
It is nice to know that a name that I loved as a kid will be a name that Broxton will learn to love as he gets older too... We have a nice collection going of the Scholastic Storybook Treasures and I love when we add more DVD's to the library!!!
A new DVD for our library is Stone Soup... and other stories from the Asian Tradition.  Not only is this new to our library, this is totally new to me, as I have never heard of this before...
After reading about it though, I am eager for Broxton and I to watch!!!!

STONE SOUP (Written and illustrated by Jon J. Muth, narrated by B.D. Wong) An inspiring story about the strength people possess when they work together.
THE FIVE CHINESE BROTHERS (By Claire Bishop, illustrated by Kurt Wiese) A unique super-natural strength saves each of five brothers from trouble in this classic story.
LON PO PO (Written and illustrated by Ed Young, narrated by B.D. Wong) The Asian version of the classic fairy tale Red Riding Hood brings lessons about strangers, trust and courage to a new generation.
THE STONECUTTER (Written and illustrated by Gerald McDermott) Tasaku is a lowly cutter of stone who longs for power.

This sounds like not only a great DVD to watch for enjoyment, I am glad that it is going to be teaching life lessons as well!
