Wee Gallery Slide and Play Books, perfect for babies!

As a parent, you learn so much. I remember thinking that babies would love bright colored objects, but once I became a parent, I learned that in the beginning stages, black and white were the most appealing to them.  It is always so neat to me to learn how babies function. Anyways, I was sent a couple books for review and to say Savannah thinks they are pretty neat is an understatement. Broxton, being the great big brother that he is, was eager to show her the books and they are now in her cube of books that we have in the living room that she "reads" every day.

We were sent the slide and play books Pets and Safari from Wee Gallery.  These books are both heavy duty to stand up to kids playing.  While I think that lift the flap books are cute, they tend to get destroyed early on. These slide and play are durable and I think will be lasting us a good while.  (She does like chewing on all board books right now, so I don't think they will be passed down to her kids, but you get what I am saying!)
Broxton loved being able to show his little sister that she could slide the parts up and down.   He would mix them up and then show her how to make it become an animal.

Savannah enjoyed us talking about the animals and was pretty excited to see that the parts moved to be a silly shape, or we could move it to the right way and an animal would appear!  I thought with them being in black and white that she might not be as drawn to them, but she still was, at over one year old!

As I said, we were sent two really cool slide and play books:
Pets -  slide to see four house hold pets come before your eyes!
Safari - slide to see four safari animals

We were also sent two activity books that I have put up until she is a little older.
These are not typical "coloring" books, they are awesome books !  You can draw, write and color to complete each page.  I think we will have fun with these when she gets older, so I am excited about these books!    The two we were sent were Dogs Day out (that I have shared below) and Cat's Playgroup.
Dogs Day Out-  Join Dog and Cat on their busy day out. This fun activity book is packed with lots of things to draw, spot, and color. This stunning range of books for pre-schoolers, illustrated with high contrast black and white bold lines, stimulate visual development with engaging educational content.Join Dexter Dog and his friends on an exciting day out at the park. Packed with puzzles, oodles of doodles, and things to spot, color, and make, you'll find lots of things to do in this exciting puzzle activity book. After helping Dog's little sister choose her outfit, eating breakfast and packing a picnic, it's off on the big yellow bus to have some fun! Play on the rides, feed the ducks, discover beautiful bugs and fly kites before going home for tea.Beautifully illustrated in bold line, and filled with repeating patterns, this fun activity book is designed to engage and stimulate visual development. Includes a dust jacket that folds out to a poster.
Are you familiar with Wee Gallery?  They have so much more than books.  Yes, this review was of some of the books they offer, but they have pillows, art cards, toys and more!   Head on over to see what all they have, I know you will love it!
I am IN LOVE with the Meal Time Stacking Set - Just not sure if I love the girl or dog the most!  Let me know which one you like!

Chapter Books from @skyponypress #ProjectDroid

As many know, we love books here.  I love reading and love reading to my children. Broxton would much rather me read TO him instead of him read, so we are working on that. He is in 2nd grade now and just came home the other day telling me that he has found books he likes!  He wants me to start buying him CHAPTER BOOKS so he can read them.  I pointed out that I had bought plenty of chapter books for him, he just needed to start reading them.
The reason I am telling you this?  Sky Pony Press (we have worked with them on books before and are still working on building our library for Savannah with their great titles) has decided to give chapter books a try.  They have two that they have released and both sound pretty amazing.  I think Broxton would love them, so we might have to check these out soon!

It’s a pretty normal day for Logan Applebaum—until his inventor mother announces that she’s built him a new robot cousin. And Java may be really smart, but he’s also going to be a major handful. No one can know about his secret. This is going to be a long school year.
With the third grade science fair coming up, though, Logan thinks maybe a super computer cousin could come in handy and he’ll finally have a shot at beating the nosey Silverspoon twins who win at everything.
But when Sherry and Jerry steal Java as their partner, and then start suspecting something is up with the new kid, can Logan think fast before this crazy experiment becomes an epic disaster?
In Science No Fair! internationally bestselling author, Nancy Krulik and her incredibly talented daughter, Amanda Burwasser, team up to introduce a new comedic pair that combines the literalness of Amelia Bedelia with a wacky modern edge, making for hours of laughter.

When Mom tells Logan that Java is joining his soccer team, the Purple Wombats, he’s not thrilled. It’s a lot of work teaching his new robot cousin how to act like a human—and keeping him out of trouble—and Logan needs a break.
Still, being programmed for success means that Java’s also great at scoring. He might just turn the Wombats into a championship team, beating Sherry and Jerry Silverspoon and their Red Polar Bears . . . if he’d just let the other kids play, too. After being replaced as the Wombats’ MVP, Logan’s had enough.
But when Java gets wet and goes on the fritz, can the whole team—even a short-circuiting Java—come together to score the winning goal?
The second in a fantastically funny new chapter book series by internationally bestselling author Nancy Krulik and her daughter, Amanda Burwasser, Soccer Shocker is destined to win tons of fans.

Futuristic Themed Loot Crate - full of great goodies!

If I have not convinced you that Loot Crates are just the coolest thing, I am going to try again to do so today!   I am telling you, I may not even be a fan of some of the items in there (as far as the shows, I am not a Star Trek fan... I know, one of the few... but Marc is... so maybe you can count me half? ) but the box as a whole?  AMAZING!!!!
The July crate was going with the theme : Futuristic.
As soon as I opened it and saw the inside of the box, that is half of my excitement, seeing what they are going to do for the design, I knew it was going to be a fun one!

My younger (college aged) cousin was here, so I thought it would be neat to see what he thought of the items inside the Loot Crate we received.  As soon as I pulled out the shirt, he was quick to tell me that his roommate was OBSESSED with Rick and Morty.  Nope, I have no clue, but he said that shirt was too cool. I should have shown him the magazine that comes with it, as it even had a Rick and Morty coloring page in there!
The goodies, besides the fun shirt...
Futurama - Planet Express Ship Model ( No clue what Futurama is, but this is so cool, I will be giving it to Broxton for Christmas!)
Star Trek dedication plaque replica  - This might be a fun gift to give to Marc for Christmas, he can put it on his cooler or something.
The Loot Crate Pin - although I know NOTHING about Star Trek, I know that hand sign!
Mega Man Red Variant Figure  (Kidrobot) - with a title like Kid Robot, you know Broxton will think it is neat and want it... go guess who gets this too???
Valiant Comics' 4001 A.D. #1 - Broxton is getting into comics now, so this might be something for him down the road.
This is the cute little KidRobot.  I think its cute, don't you?

So, out of everything in this months loot crate, what do you like the most?

I love that each box is guaranteed to have a cool design that you can flip the box into, a cool t-shirt and an awesome pin.  That is just the guaranteed items, there is always so much more in there!!! Don't you think you, or someone you know, would be thrilled to open the mail to such a great treat???

Let The Moodsters help with their emotions!

You know, it is tough being a kid.  There is so much going on and so many new things to learn. How to talk, walk, act, how to express yourself as far as moods and feelings. I never really gave it much though until I became a mom, but man... the struggle is out there.  While childhood is AWESOME, it can have moments of being pretty scary.  On one hand, you have adults there to help you out, but on the other hand, it is hard to express things.  We were sent several awesome items from the Moodsters line and I think they are great as far as helping kids express and understand their feelings and emotions.
FTC Compliant Review Policy:  The product(s) featured in this review were provided free of cost to me by the manufacturer or representing PR agency for the sole purpose of product testing. Opinions expressed are my own and are NOT influenced by monetary compensation.

The Moodsters children's books are based on research-backed curriculum developed by parenting and child expert, Denise Daniels, and Dr. Marc Brackett, Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence. The Moodsters are five lovable detectives – Lolly, Snorf, Coz, Razzy and Quigly - who personify a basic emotion that all children experience in their everyday lives including happiness, anger, love, sadness and fear – helping children identify with these specific emotions and develop the fundamentals of feelings.
The Moodsters is a first-of-its-kind brand, created to educate, entertain, and enhance the social and emotional development of children. The Moodsters' stories and toys teach simple strategies to build social and Emotional Intelligence (EQ) skills in young children. With the help of The Moodsters, children learn that all feelings are okay—you just have to get to know them!

I thought that The Moodsters were great.  The toys are things that kids love - flashlight, mirror and the meter.  One cool thing with each?  You get the toy and each one comes with its own book!   We have enjoyed the toys and I love that it is a way for me to start talking to Savannah about feelings. Broxton and I have used this to discuss his feelings too. Yes, it is for smaller kids, but it is a great way to talk about having mixed emotions too!

Squash those afraid-of-the-dark fears with the Feelings Flashlight. Shining a light on feelings has never been easier or more fun than with The Moodsters! Before naptime or bedtime, point the flashlight toward the ceiling or a wall, and The Moodsters will magically appear, offering wisdom and humor for every emotion.

Young children often don’t have the verbal skills to put their feelings into words. The Moodster Meter puts those tools in the child’s hands—literally! This interactive teaching toy gives children a basic vocabulary of feelings and helps them express themselves. The Meter has a special Power Up button enabling children to point the arrow to the Moodster that represents how they are feeling, opening doors for calm communication about emotions.

Preschoolers are often blissfully unaware of how their emotions show on their faces, or how to read others’ faces for clues to their feelings. The Moodster Mirror helps them make the connection between feelings on the inside and facial expressions on the outside. Kids make a happy, sad, angry, scared, or loving face into the Moodster Mirror, and they are able to see what these feelings look like to others. By turning the dial, kids select the matching Moodster to hear the character’s wisdom about that particular feeling, which will help kids recognize their own emotions and non-verbal cues.

I think that these would make great additions to preschool, as well as elementary schools as far as letting children have a way to express what they are feeling.  We all know the younger they are, it seems to be harder to verbalize what they want to share. I think this is great and personally I am excited that these products are on the market to help kids and adults!

Are your kids crazy about the Ninja Turtles?

Childhood can be crazy, can't it???  For a while, Broxton was into the Ninja Turtles, then decided he wanted nothing to do with them. (That was after he begged to be one for Halloween one year!)  He has been wishy washy about it again, but as of right now, he loves watching them.  This DVD came out a bit ago, but it would be great to start thinking of different DVD's to add to Christmas lists for the TMNT fans you know!

Oral Hygiene tips, perfect for Halloween!

October brings cooler weather, football and of course HALLOWEEN.  Do you dress up? Do your children?  Any clue what the costumes will be this year?  In preparation for Halloween, I wanted to share a few tips for oral hygiene. Good to know year round!  Any suggestions you would add?

“Halloween is an exciting time for kids, so the last thing we want to do is take away their fun,” explains Dr. Bruno Sharp, a fourth-generation dentist who created a line of products called Dr. Sharp Natural Oral Care, and is celebrating his 10th year as a Natural Oral Care provider. “We can still keep it fun and yet make it healthier. Most kids may not even realize that parents took steps to make it more natural.”
Dr. Sharp offers these tips for going natural and healthy this Halloween:
  • Prior to Halloween, visit your dentist to have sealants put onto your kids' teeth to seal and protect the enamel grooves, avoiding dental decay.
  • Give your children a good nutritious meal before they go trick-or-treating. Mashed pumpkin is rich in vitamin A and a great snack. If they are not hungry while trick-or-treating, they will be less likely to try and fill up on empty calories and sugar.
  • Try to avoid all unnecessary sugar that day. That way, if they do have a few treats later, they won't run the risk of overdosing on sweets.
  • Instruct your children not to eat any treats until they bring them home to be examined by you.
  • Supervise your children to have their teeth brushed and flossed immediately after consuming Halloween candy and right before bed.
  • Parents who are handing out treats to trick-or-treaters or donating snacks for parties should opt for non-sugary foods, such as individual bags of crackers, granola bars, or fruit leather.
  • Encourage kids to walk when they are trick-or-treating, so they get some exercise as they gather their treats.
  • Make sure your children use high quality, natural non-fluoride toothpaste.
  • If your child gets a large amount of candy, encourage them to keep half of it and donate the other half to a shelter, sell it to a dentist office candy buy-back, or give it to one of the organizations that sends it to U.S. troops overseas.
“Healthier Halloweens are not only simple to do, but your child will grow accustomed to them and it will become the norm,” added Dr. Sharp. “You will be helping them establish healthy habits that will last a lifetime.”
Dr. Sharp Natural Oral Care product line includes children’s toothpaste, adult toothpaste, fresh mint mouthwash, and dental tape. All products are safe to use, made in the USA, and are metal free, gluten-free, have no artificial colors or flavors, are vegan, non-GMO, alcohol-free, fluoride-free, paraben-free and cruelty-free. Plus, they help whiten teeth and have xylitol, which is a natural sweetener that also helps to fight off cavities. The products are safe for the entire family. Tips for helping kids establish good morning oral hygiene habits:
  • Teach them why. Discuss the reasons why they need to brush regularly, so they know why they are doing it. You can make this easier and still keep it age-appropriate by picking up some kid’s books about brushing, too.
  • Make it fun. When parents make brushing time fun, little kids are more likely to want to participate. Have a brushing song or fun routine that goes along with getting the job done each day.
  • Give them rewards. Kids love to get rewards, even if it’s a sticker added to their sticker chart. Once they meet their brushing goals, take them to the store to pick out a book. This will help to keep reinforcing the habit.
  • Praise their efforts. Rather than focusing on what they fall short of or miss, stick to keeping it positive and giving kudos for the parts they do well. They can always go back and improve areas missed, but positive reinforcement goes a long way.
  • Help and hold accountable. Up until kids are around 8-9 years old, parents may need to keep going into the bathroom with them to ensure proper brushing is being done. While it may seem like a pain, it’s helping them to establish lifelong habits that will benefit them greatly in the long run.

Are you part of the Odd Squad?

A show that Broxton loves watching is one called Odd Squad. I have blogged about it before, because he really does love watching it.   I will tell you now, he watches some really stupid cartoons, but when this show comes on, it actually makes me happy that he is watching it!  It teaches him MATH without it being boring and feeling like you are in a classroom/ Seriously, I don't mind the TV on when it is educational programming and that is why I love PBS.  Are you familiar with Odd Squad?  If you are, don't you love it?  If you aren't, and you have younger children around, check it out!  I bet you will become a fan of it too! Odd Squad just released another awesome DVD, Creature Encounters.  I have not given it to Broxton yet, I am thinking this might be a Christmas gift.  Let's see how these next few weeks hold up and then I will decide!

Slammers Snacks makes snack time tasty!

It appears as though everyone is back into the routines of school these days, right? That might mean packing lunches, maybe just snacks like Slammer Snacks, or possibly even both! We were sent a selection of their products for review and let me just tell you... they were supposed to be for Broxton's snacks, but they quickly turned into snacks for us all. They are just that good!
FTC Compliant Review Policy:  The product(s) featured in this review were provided free of cost to me by the manufacturer or representing PR agency for the sole purpose of product testing. Opinions expressed are my own and are NOT influenced by monetary compensation.

As I said, they were meant for Broxton.  I figured they weren't "just for kids" and since Marc works long hours, I thought a nice protein boost might be great for him.  He really enjoyed them and that meant more for us all!  Seriously, what would you rather your family be eating?  A protein treat like this in a squeezable pouch, or a bag of chips or a candy bar? (Don't get me wrong, I love all that I have mentioned, but lets be real, what would you think would be best to eat day after day?  That's right... the squeezable goodness Slammers Snack packs!)  We have pretty much tried (and loved) them all.  They are great whenever, but we found that they taste the absolute best once they are nice and cold.  Perfect for school lunches and after school snacks, they don't have a big mess factor either.  Just open the pack, enjoy and dispose of the container when you are finished.    If you are a sports parent, these are great for the sports snack as well!!!
Like I said, Marc took them to work too.  He had to send me a picture of his favorite so I would know which ones to buy for him again!  See, no mess!   His favorite was the Pomegranate Grape Crush. You can tell by the name that it contains pomegranate and grape, but it also has coconut, apple, banana and even purple carrot!   This time around we were able to try that flavor, as well as the "Chillin" one.  That one has yumberry, butternut squash, Greek yogurt, banana and blueberry in it!

Head over to the Slammers Snacks site and let me know what flavor sounds best for you. Also let me know which ones your children would probably like best.
