Email Roundup - All About the Women

Just another roundup of emails I have received  just wanted to share.

PINK PUMPKINS for BREAST CANCER

Did you know that breast cancer is one of the leading causes of death among women?  Well, I want to introduce you to a beautiful new product that is going to motivate and inspire your readers while helping raise funds for breast cancer research.  I work for a new foundation called The Pink Pumpkin Patch and we are promoting a natural pink-skinned pumpkin, which is debuting all across the country this October just in time for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

These pink pumpkins are part of the Pink Pumpkin Patch Foundation’s national campaign, “Pink Pumpkins on Your Porch – Let’s Unite Against Breast Cancer.” The campaign is designed to encourage everyone to join the fight against breast cancer by placing pink pumpkins on their porches and in their homes as part of their annual Halloween and fall décor.

In support of “Pink Pumpkins on Your Porch,” the Pink Pumpkin Patch Foundation has partnered with pumpkin farm owners and growers across the country who have agreed to $.25 per pumpkin to the Pink Pumpkin Patch Foundation.  Funds will then be donated to breast cancer research organizations.

The fact is breast cancer is one of the top most common cancers in women but we can improve this harrowing statistic.  Unite with us to find a cure by sharing these pink pumpkins and the our cause with your fans.

Women Health and Fitness Tips:

To help women of all ages get healthy and active, Dr. Ross Walker, author of 5 Stages of Health, offers the following tips:

Decades up to age 30: From 18 to 30, your muscles and joints, along with your vascular system, are at their best - take this time to start and maintain a lifelong exercise routine. Take a few different classes, whether it's Zumba or Yoga, to get an idea of what type of workout you would like to use to get in shape.

Age 30 to 40: Addictions, such as drinking and smoking, are bad for you at any age but as you get older they can have lasting effects on your health. Use this decade to quit those bad habits; make your decision to quit public, telling friends and family that you fully intend to stop will create the support system you need.

Age 40 to 50: In your 20s and 30s, eating a carton of ice cream at night seemed to have little effect on your figure, but once you hit your 40s that will start to change. This decade is where women begin to see the buildup of fat, so start a healthy diet now. To lose weight you will want to take in fewer calories than you burn off and once you feel you dropped those extra pounds try to maintain it - if you stop, the weight will begin to pour back on.

Age 50 to 60: Every visit to your doctor is the perfect opportunity for health screenings but this decade will be the most important when trying to pass those tests. Between your 50s and 60s, common diseases such as cancers and cardiovascular problems begin to manifest - make sure to get appropriate tests at annual checkups or when needed. You can also take daily steps towards preventing illnesses by taking dietary supplements, such as BergaMet Mega, which help to promote cardiovascular health and maintain healthy cholesterol levels.

Age 60 and onwards: This time is when you should be taking active steps to keep your mind sharp and prevent yourself from slowing down, not just physically but mentally too. Try taking up a form of meditation, whether it's through yoga or sitting in silence for 30 minutes a day - this will help you gather your thoughts and relieve your body and mind from stress that can affect your healthy way of life.

National Coffee Day is Sept 29th

In honor of National Coffee Day on September 29th, Eight O’Clock Coffee, America’s Original Gourmet Coffee, is demystifying coffee jargon—and explaining how to make a great-tasting specialty coffee drink at home, no fancy machines needed. Behold, your guide to creating a cafécoffee experience right in your own kitchen, courtesy of Eight O’Clock Coffee!

Latte- Traditionally, this is made using espresso and foamed milk. The milk to coffee ratio is 3:1.
  • Make It At Home! Use a strong coffee, like Eight O’Clock Coffee’s Dark Italian Roast, and brew regularly. Pour some milk into a saucepan and place over medium heat. Whisk milk as it heats to make it frothy. Pour some of the coffee into a mug, add some hot liquid milk and spoon the foamed milk on top.

Café Mocha- This is simply a latte with some type of chocolate flavor added in.
  • Make It At Home! Prepare using the latte instructions. Before adding the coffee and milk, pour 2/3 cup of hot chocolate mix into the bottom of the mug, add coffee and milk and stir until the mix has dissolved.

Café au Lait- Similar to a latte, but usually uses strong brewed coffee instead of espresso and has a 1:1 ratio of coffee to milk.
  • Make It At Home! Brew Eight O’Clock Coffee’s Dark Italian Roast, steam the milk and add equal parts milk (add this first) and coffee to your mug.

Cappuccino- Usually made with equal parts espresso, steamed milk and frothed milk.
  • Make It At Home! Follow the same instructions as the latte, but pour equal parts coffee and steamed milk into the mug and top with frothed milk. It’s great with cinnamon or chocolate sprinkled on.

Macchiato- A traditional macchiato is a shot of espresso with a bit of milk foam. We usually think of the caramel macchiato, which is very popular at coffee shops in the US.
  • Make It At Home! Make a tasty caramel macchiato using Eight O’Clock Coffee Dark Italian Roast. Heat milk in a saucepan and whisk until frothy, add a few pumps of vanilla syrup to your cup of coffee, top with milk froth and drizzle with caramel syrup.

Frappe- A frappe is a cold blended coffee drink with chilled coffee, sugar, milk or cream and ice blended together.
  • Make It At Home! All you need is 6-8 ounces of cold coffee (we like Eight O’Clock Coffee Original Blend), 2 Tbsp milk, 3/4 cup crushed or cubed ice and sugar to taste. Combine ingredients in a blender. You can also add 2 Tbsp of your favorite syrup—caramel, chocolate, vanilla—some people even add ice cream to make it thicker. The possibilities are endless, so get creative!

Pumpkin Coffee- Virtually every coffee shop has some kind of limited-time-only pumpkin coffee, a delicious fall flavor.
  • Make It At Home! Brew your own pumpkin coffee this fall or any other time of year you feel a craving coming on. Use 2 tsp of pumpkin spice for every 3 Tbsp of Eight O’Clock Coffee Original Blend. Combine the pumpkin spice with the coffee grounds and brew. Sweeten to your desire.

Espresso: A concentrated coffee brewed by forcing a small amount of nearly boiling water under pressure through finely ground coffee beans.
  • Make It At Home!  Espresso machines are typically very expensive, but you can come close to the real deal with your regular coffee pot. Choose a dark roast, like Eight O’Clock Coffee’s Dark Italian Roast, and grind the beans as finely as possible. Double the coffee filter, and pack down the coffee grounds into the filter (use 1 tbsp for every 1/4 cup of espresso). It’s a great option that replicates the strong, bold flavor espresso and cappuccino aficionados love.

***** I was not asked to post any of this, I just thought it would be nice to share.
     Have a great weekend!***

A New Take: Snow White and the Huntsman

Just a reminder of another "Adult Fairy Tale."

SYNOPSIS:
In this spectacular action-adventure, Kristen Stewart (Twilight) is Snow White, the only woman in the land fairer than the evil queen Ravenna (Oscar® winner Charlize Theron). Ravenna wants nothing more than to destroy her young rival, but she doesn’t know that Show White has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) the queen dispatched to kill her. Together with a handsome prince (Sam Claflin) enchanted by Snow White’s beauty and power, they assemble an armed force to recapture the kingdom. This breathtaking new vision of the legendary tale from Joe Roth, the producer of Alice in Wonderland and acclaimed commercial director and state-of-the-art visualist Rupert Sanders is, in the words of Shawn Edwards, Fox-TV, “A film that soars with creativity, stylistic genius and amazing battle scenes.”

Added Bonus for those that buy the combo pack:
The Combo Pack includes an Extended version of the film not shown in theaters, as well as a Digital Copy of the film, compatible with iPhone®, iTunes®, iPad®, iPod®, iPod® touch, Android or online retail partners, and also includes UltraViolet, the revolutionary new way for consumers to collect movies and TV shows in the cloud to instantly stream and download to TV’s, computers, tablets and smart phones. Consumers can now truly enjoy their movies anytime, anywhere on the platform of their choice.

Here are a few other "adult adaptations" on fairy tales from childhood...

Alice in Wonderland
This Disney blockbuster is full of curiouser-and-curiouser twists on its source material; for example, they refer to Wonderland throughout the film as “Underland.” This 3-D, darker telling of the classic story could only come from the mind of Tim Burton.

Beastly
Drawing from Beauty and the Beast, this modern retelling of the classic story takes place in high school and stars Alex Pettyfer and Vanessa Hudgens.

Ever After
This 1998 romantic drama starring Drew Barrymore, Aneglica Houston and Dougray Scott claimed to be the "real" story of Cinderella.

Freeway
This flick starring Reese Witherspoon is so far away from being kid-appropriate, it’s hard to believe it’s based on “Little Red Riding Hood.” Instead of a big, bad wolf, Kiefer Sutherland's Bob Wolverton is the villain; he is a killer and rapist.

Hook
What if Peter Pan – played here by Robin Williams - grew up to be a stressed, middle-aged lawyer who barely pays attention to his marriage or children? What happens when Hook kidnaps his children and draws grown-up Pan back to Neverland?

Red Riding Hood
Set as a horror movie in a medieval village that is haunted by a werewolf, a young girl, portrayed by Amanda Seyfriend, falls for an orphaned woodcutter, much to her family's displeasure.

Gogo's Crazybones - A Couple of Gift Idea's

When I was younger, we played pick up sticks..
At least, I think that was the name of them...  I know kids before me played marbles and jacks...

Truth be told, I had a set, I just did not know what to do with them, so I just collected the marbles!
Well, kids today have so many different things to choose from, but one that is sort of like the two games I mention, but with its own unique system is GoGo's Crazybones!
Have you seen or heard of GoGo's Crazybones?

They are the newest craze....
Basically you get them and they can bounce and all sorts of things when you throw them.  If you want to learn more about them, just head over to the GoGo's Crazybones site to read up...

We used it to work with Broxton and his numbers...
In each package, you get a crazybone and then you get a sticker.
We used the sticker book to locate the sticker that we had and I had Broxton pointing out all of the numbers to me...
To make sure you have an "official" crazybone, you can just look at the back.  See the yellow circle on the back of the yellow one?  It has an imprint on it, so you know it is real.  Also on the imprint is the number of the crazybone... that is to help with the whole "collection" aspect of them all.

HOW DO I PLAY WITH MY GOGO'S?
Each Gogo has a favourite game they usually perform best in and three performance stats for playing games:
  • Speed: This shows you whether the Gogo will gain speed and crash strength
  • Bounce: This tells you if it will be easy to predict where the Gogo will land after it's thrown
  • Balance: This tells you whether the Gogo will stand up easily after it has been thrown

Broxton is a bit to young for this, but it would be great for older kids...

Besides being a fun game, it would be great to work on a collection...

FROM THEIR SITE:

Gogo's have great play and educational value making them a popular and fun toy for both kids and their parents!
  • Math and logic skills are involved in game playing and keeping score
  • Reading and comprehension are practiced as you learn about the unique personalities and special powers in the games, sticker album and website
  • Storytelling and imaginary play are encouraged as you build and share stories around the characters
-------------------------
If the actual GoGo Crazybones weren't enough, you can purchase a GoGO Grab A Scab.
These are actually fabric sticker patches.
They come in large designs with the actual "Scabbee"  character and as well as others...
They also have smaller "scabs" such as patches for ANTI BULLYING or even to alert you for allergies!
(I personally thought both of those were great ideas!)
But, as I said...
If you are addicted to the Crazybones, you can even purchase several of the GoGo Scabs now!
Head on over and take a look!

This would make great stocking stuffer idea's!!!!

October Baby - Available Now

You know how you watch a movie and your heart just breaks for the character?
Well, that happened to me this past weekend.

I was lucky enough to be able to watch October Baby and not even 15 minutes into it, my mouth hit the floor.  I really loved the chemistry between Hannah and Jason.  After looking it up on IMDB, I see that they worked together in the past... Well, it shows and it is great.  You feel as though they really are best friends.  In the movie, they have been friends since childhood and you really get that while watching!
As the movie starts, you see a normal college kid..

Then, she just falls out while on stage for a play.  You know it isn't nerves, as she was just using an inhaler, so you get the feeling that something is wrong.  Throw in John Schneider and we are off!!!!
We learn (back to my not even 15 minutes in and my mouth hit the floor) that she was actually adopted by her parents... after her birth mom tried to abort her.
Talk about a punch in the gut.
This movie has you following Hannah on a road trip of a lifetime...

I would for sure recommend it...

As a side note, once again, thanks to IMDB you see a somewhat familiar face... The cop in October Baby was actually in Courageous... and then you learn that Provident Films helped with this movie.. Just like Courageous...
Side note -   10 % of the profits from October Baby will go to the EVERY LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL FUND.
They distribute funds to help"organizations helping women facing crisis pregnancies, life-affirming adoption agencies and those caring for orphans."

Synopsis:
As the curtain rises, Hannah hesitantly steps onto the stage for her theatrical debut in college. Yet before she can utter her first lines, Hannah—unscripted—collapses in front of the stunned audience.

After countless medical tests, all signs point to one underlying factor: Hannah's difficult birth. This revelation is nothing compared to what she then learns from her parents: she was actually adopted … after a failed abortion attempt.

Bewildered, angered, and confused, Hannah turns for support to Jason, her oldest friend. Encouraged by his adventurous spirit, Hannah joins his group of friends on a Spring Break road trip, embarking on a journey to discover her hidden past … and find hope for her unknown future.

In the midst of her incredible journey, Hannah finds that life can be so much more than what you have planned.

Cheesier, Creamier, Yummier - Taste Test Accepted! #Giveaway

I don't know if "Mac - N - Cheese" has a love or hate relationship at your house, but around here, it is as great as candy!  Meaning, as long as I can remember, everyone I know has loved Mac-n-Cheese!!!!
I can remember as a child, my Nana would make it for dinner...
Now, Broxton orders it from time to time when we go out to eat and of course, ALL the boys (including Marc) enjoy Mac-N-Cheese whenever it is offered up.  Come to think of it, I can not think of any family meal get-together (like Christmas or Thanksgiving) where it wasn't a side item!  Wow!
That being said, I saw that there was an opportunity for us to take a Taste Test Challenge on Mac-N-Cheese and I was so excited to give it a try! When the "taste test" arrived, I was excited, but also a bit disappointed.  (Selfish... Just hold on and you will see where this is going)  I was looking forward to trying all the different ones out, but I was not looking forward to cooking 4 boxes of Mac-n-Cheese to give this test a go!  Now, the reason I was disappointed... They sent 2 boxes of "shell"macaroni and then 2 boxes of the "fun" ones... Broxton loves the fun ones, as it is entertaining to him (I guess, not really sure why he loves them... but he does.)  I personally do not like them.  It might just be me, but I feel as though my noodles aren't so cheesy when I have the fun designs... It might all be in my head, but that is why I don't by them, unless Broxton sees them and asks for them.
So- on to the test...
I labeled the boxes A, B, C and D.
I then had post it notes going by the pots (A-D)  once the noodles were cooked, I then moved the finished product into a bowl and then stuck the post it note on the bowl (moving it from the pot.)  That way, I had the boxes in the kitchen labeled and the finished product on the bowl on the table.  No lie, I was a bit nervous I was either going to be biased because I remembered what brand was what letter... Or, I was going to mess up my labeling and mix it all up.

After getting everything ready, it was time to chow down. Broxton did not want to share his, as he had to be worried Mac-N-Cheese was never going to be offered again, with the amount we had!

Marc kept going back and forth having to taste them all.
I was quick to notice that one had a lighter color than the other and I was nervous as to the "fun shaped" ones... Please let them be good, remember, I am not usually a fan.

So- Who won?
I personally enjoyed B the best... Marc was all about C.    Leave it to him to like the fun shapes... While I was digging into the shells!  Broxton kept trying to inhale whatever he could get his spoon into!
At first, Marc was singing praises about B, "It is creamier!  It is cheesier" but when he ultimately had to decide the best out of all 4... He kept talking about how he could not make that decision... He kept going back and forth over and over again... Then, he said if he "had to choose" it would be C!

A- Competitor Shells and Cheese
B- Back to Nature Shells and Cheese
C- Back to Nature Crazy Bugs
D- Competitor Shaped

Now, who would like to take the Taste Test Challenge?
Three Lucky Readers will win a Taste Test Package to try at your house!!!!

Back to Nature is providing the products for this program at no cost to me for review.

Christmas Shopping Yet? Ornaments With Love Early Bird Special

Are you like me and starting your Christmas shopping now, or are you waiting a bit before jumping in?

I like to start early so that I can be finished early... One, so that I can enjoy it... But two, it makes it easier being finished before the boys get here!

Growing up, I can remember my mom (and grandmother at times) giving me a Christmas Ornament as one of my gifts... I loved it then, but I appreciate it so much more now...

You might wonder WHY give a child an ornament...
Let me tell you MY standpoint on it...

For starters, it filled our tree up with memories through the years as to why that particular ornament was given... But more than that... When I moved out on my own, it was a way for my mom to pass my childhood on to me.  You see, she gave me the ornaments for me to put on MY first tree.
I am now trying to do that for the boys...

That way, whenever they have their own first tree, be it when they move out or get married or whatever life presents them... They will have ornaments to go on their tree to remind them of days in the past...

That was why I was happy to get the "Early Bird" email from Ornaments With Love...

Just head on over to their site and order as many Ornaments as you want/need...

Until September 30th, you will pay the Early Bird Shipping Rate:

$4.95 shipping in the USA

$9.95 shipping in Canada
$12.95 shipping in England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand

***  I will posting a review on Ornaments With Love soon.  I was not required to post this, I just wanted to share, since I was headed over to order some now for our house!***

Barney Loveable Moments #giveaway

I might be one of the few parents to actually admit it, but with Broxton getting closer to 4 years old... I still love Barney.  I know that some parents get tired of the shows their kids watch... but whenever he watches Barney, I feel like he is really learning... I know that lots of the kid shows out there "subconsciously" teach too, but I just love the way Barney does it.  He doesn't watch Barney all the time and it may be weeks before he watches again, but even though we have watched numerous times, I have yet to grow tired of him. I think that it's funny that my dad is so against Barney.. just because my brother was obsessed with him at one point and ANY parent can only take something so long... I have yet to reach that "breaking point!"
Nothing against Barney, let me make that very clear... Just not everyone can take that loveable purple dinosaur for long times!

How I Met Your Mother Available - October 2nd

How I Met Your Mother Season 7 comes out on October 2nd...
In this season, Lily and Marshall are first time parents...
Below, you will find the top 5 tips for first timers...

In How I Met Your Mother’s seventh season, first time parents, Lily and Marshall have to adjust to the rigors of parenthood and find out, like many before, just how hard it is. So fresh from family naptime, here are the topfive Eriksen family tips for first-time moms and dads.

  • GET HELP. You’ll probably hear family and friends say things like “if you need help…” and “anytime you need a sitter…” Take them up on it! Also, it’s healthy to socialize. Do not feel guilty for it.
  • THEY DO SLEEP. But they usually mix up nights and days during the first several weeks. What’s more, most babies do not sleep through the night until they are about four months old. Remember that too much sleep during the day will keep nighttime visitor Mr. Sandman away. And sleep when the baby sleeps!
  • PLAN AHEAD. Meal time, bath time, bedtime, play time, naptime… You’ll be doing yourself a huge service by trying to plan ahead and making sure you have everything you need from the start of whatever the activity is.
  • BEWARE OF OVERSTIMULATION. Mommy, daddy, grandparents and friends may have gone a little overboard, buying baby presents so be cautious about giving too much to the baby too soon. Over stimulated babies don’t sleep and overtired babies cry. A lot.
  • DON’T FREAK OUT. You’re going to make mistakes but that’s never going to change so the best thing you can do for yourselves and your baby is accept this and keep going.

DO YOU HAVE ANY TIPS TO ADD?

Are You Active? @ACTIVATEdrinks

If you have visited here before, you know that I am not the best at remembering to take my vitamins..

So, if there is ever any way to help me get what I need IN me... I am all about trying it out...
If I forget now... I can surely remember to take it when I drink my water... Because with this... the vitamin is built right in!

Enter ACTIVATE.
I hate to say it, but I had never heard of it, until it arrived at my door...
It is a bottle of water with Vitamins in the cap!
Yes, I know you can buy water that has the vitamins in it, but ACTIVATE did research and learned that over time, the vitamins lost their strength just sitting in water (be it on the shelves in the store or at  your house)  over time, so they found a way to have it together, yet separate until you are ready for it!
It really is a great idea and I was rather impressed!
They have several different flavors / focus area's...
You just pick the one right for you...
Then, when you are ready to drink it...
You just twist the cap to open the seal, letting all the vitamins out...
Then, you shake the bottle to mix it..
Finally, you twist the cap in the opposite direction to open and then you enjoy!

I tried several different flavors and each one tasted pretty good.
I even let Broxton take a sip just to see if he would like the flavor.
It passed his inspection too!

Besides being great for your body...
Activate is good for the environment.
They have partnered with American Forests... Every time you buy 3 bottles, they will plant a tree!
Talk about giving back!

You can look at their store locator to see where you can purchase locally, or you can visit their online store and have it shipped to your home!    (You can also purchase additional caps to add to your own bottled water... Love that idea as well!)

You can follow ACTIVATE on Facebook and Twitter.
