Being in my thirties, I keep saying that I need to start a better skin care routine.
Now that we have a house, we are outside so much more now than we used to be....
I KNOW I need to do better.

A friend of mine actually told me that I needed to start a routine, to keep me from aging...
You know what she recommended?   Olay Regenerist.
Olay has been a name I have known for what seems to be a million years, so they obviously know what they are doing...

I have to say, I absolutely LOVE the light, subtle scent of the Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream.  It is not overpowering, but you can smell it.  ( I am not really a fan of totally unscented things, so this is great.)  I immediately felt as though my face was being hydrated as soon as I began to apply the cream.  It left my skin feeling soft and silky and I hate to say it, but I have notice that I have rubbed my face a few times to see how it feels so soft.  I know... I know... sad, but true!!!
The Eye Cream feels great, but I have not been using it long enough to notice a difference.  I did think that it was in some sort of roll on applicator and was surprised to see it was just a tube that you apply yourself.  Not a big deal, but just not what I was expecting.  The lash serum is also one that I have not really noticed yet.  Once again, I have not used it enough to notice a difference and to be honest, I am not sure how often I will use it.  I have basically blonde eye lashes and I rarely wear mascara... I do have long eyelashes, but you just never notice them.  Using the serum made me feel like I was putting on clear mascara and I just can not seem to incorporate it into my routine... baby steps, I know... I am getting there :)
All in all, I really like the products and hope to set a routine to take better care of my skin!

The Tattered Prayer Book #DigIntoReading #giveaway

As much as I am always looking to add to our library, I am also thinking about adding to the library for him to enjoy as he gets older too.  I was offered the chance to review The Tattered Prayer Book by Ellen Bari and of course, I jumped on it.  It is a book that starts the introduction of the Holocaust for children aged 6-10.  I read it and then shared it with the 12 year old when they came to visit.  (He is the reader of the older boys and is always on a quest to learn more.)
The Tattered Prayer Book tells of a young boy that basically smuggles in a prayer book when he and his family come to the United States.  Years later, his daughter finds it and after asking questions, the father realizes that he was not only keeping his memories to himself, he was also keeping his family history FROM his family.  His daughter asking the question of the book allows him to share his families struggles and allows his heart to heal.
This book is a short read, but is also longer than most.
I love that it is hardback... and that the story is illustrated by sketches and not illustrated.
It seems to get the story across better in my opinion.

The Tattered Prayer Book  is a gentle introduction to the Holocaust for children ages 6-10. Ruthie discovers a secret about her father, while looking through a box of mementos from the ‘old country.’ As her father tells his surprising story, Ruthie learns a piece of her father’s story, a slice of Jewish history and the circumstances under which the family fled Nazi Germany.  A burnt prayer book taken in secret from a destroyed synagogue afterKristallnacht offers solace to her father as a young boy, at the most difficult time in his life. Once safely settled in America, he tries to bury the prayer book along with his painful past.  Many years later, sharing the story with Ruthie, allows father to heal and daughter to grow.

One lucky reader is going to win a copy of The Tattered Prayer Book.

Broxton has decided that he wants to read and learn about different things.
One week, we were reading and learning about all sorts of bugs...
The next week, he was excited and wanted to learn about sharks and sea life.

I was excited to learn that we would be reviewing the book, Shimmer and Splash from Sterling Books.  This was a great read with awesome pictures!

    Shimmer and Splash Contents Include:
    Inshore Hunters

    Deep Sea Hunters
    Coral Reef
    A Good Place To Be
    Fighting Fiddlers
    Waters of Wonder

Being that I am not an avid fisher or anything, this book also taught me as well.
For each section, you had a paragraph about the topic of discussion...
Then, you also had illustrations to show you each fish.
(I loved that the names of each fish was near it, as I had NO CLUE what was what without it to guide me!)
A couple of the sections also had fold out pages with even MORE illustrations!!!
Talk about making a kid scream with excitement to have a big 4 page spread with all of the fish in front of them!!!
As much as I thought I would love the section on Dolphins the most, I was actually most intrigued with the jelly fish and the coral reef!
I had no clue that the jelly fish could have tentacles that were ten feet.
    Talk about learning something new!!!
With the coral reef, I did not know they could stretch hundreds of miles long. I thought they were just smaller and grouped together sort of near each other.
I tell you, it was informative for the both of us!!!
If you have a reader that enjoys sea life...
(Or maybe you are planning a surprise beach trip... give this to them to read on the way there!)
This would be a great read... and a fun time looking at the illustrations!!!!

Killing Lincoln Information You Might Not Know

**** I was not required to post this.  Just thought it was interesting.  ****

Catch The Suspenseful Thriller, Killing Lincoln, on Blu-ray June 11th!

Narrated by Oscar winner Tom Hanks* and produced by Tony Scott  (Unstoppable, The A-Team) & Ridley Scott (Prometheus, American Gangster), KILLING LINCOLN delivers a thrilling perspective into the criminal mind of John Wilkes Booth and his co-conspirators.  Watch the conspiracy unfold on Digital HD now and Blu-ray and DVD June 11 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment – just in time for Father’s Day!

Based on The New York Times best-selling novel, KILLING LINCOLN is the suspenseful, eye-opening account of the events surrounding the assassination of U.S. President Abraham Lincoln. While some aspects of the plot to slay Lincoln and cripple the newly forming union are widely known, much more of the history unfolds in this insightful thriller. As John Wilkes Booth becomes increasingly obsessed with removing Lincoln from office, a secret faction of conspirators forms, and ultimately empowers Booth to carry out an event that will change America forever. Narrated by Oscar® Winner Tom Hanks* and produced by Tony Scott and Ridley Scott, this historical masterpiece stars Billy Campbell (TV’s The Killing) in a spectacular turn as President Lincoln.
*Actor: 1994, Forrest Gump; 1993, Philadelphia.

    Did Booth Act Alone?
The prevailing notion about John Wilkes Booth, President Lincoln's assassin, is that though he conspired with other no-names in the assassination, he himself was mainly driven by insanity. However, subsequent accounts have suggested that he may have been part of a larger and more complex scheme involving the Confederate commander-in-chief, Jefferson Davis. Some sources even involve the guilt of high-ranking Canadian officials, which suggest that it might not have been such a deranged scheme after all.
    A Kidnapping Plot
Interestingly enough, before it was an assassination plot, it was a kidnapping plot. Booth wanted to kidnap Lincoln and exchange him for Southern Prisoners of War. In 1865, Booth spent about $4,000 of his own money to arrange the kidnapping. There are couple of reasons why the plot failed. At one point, Booth was lying in wait to kidnap Lincoln, but he didn't show up at the right time. Then, a couple of days after Robert E. Lee surrendered; Booth was in attendance when Lincoln gave a speech about all citizens regardless of race having the right to vote. Infuriated, Booth decided a mere kidnap attempt wouldn't do - assassination was the only answer.
    Before the Assassination
Lincoln occupied a private box above the stage with his wife Mary, a young army officer named Henry Rathbone and Rathbone’s fiance, Clara Harris, the daughter of New York Senator Ira Harris. The Lincolns arrived late for the comedy, Our American Cousin but the President was reportedly in a fine mood and laughed heartily during the production.
    The Assassination
At 10:15, Booth slipped into the box and fired his .44-caliber single-shot derringer into the back of Lincoln's head. After stabbing Rathbone, who immediately rushed at him, in the shoulder, Booth leapt onto the stage and shouted, "Sic semper tyrannis!" ("Thus ever to tyrants!" – the Virginia state motto). At first, the crowd interpreted the unfolding drama as part of the production, but a scream from the first lady told them otherwise. Although Booth allegedly broke his leg in the fall, he managed to leave the theatre and escape from Washington on horseback.
    After the Assassination
A 23-year-old doctor named Charles Leale was in the audience and hastened to the presidential box immediately upon hearing the shot and Mary Lincoln’s scream. He found the President slumped in his chair, paralyzed and struggling to breathe. Several soldiers carried Lincoln to a house across the street and placed him on a bed. When the surgeon general arrived at the house, he concluded that Lincoln could not be saved and would die during the night.
The search for John Wilkes Booth was one of the largest manhunts in history, with 10,000 federal troops, detectives and police tracking down the assassin.
    Booth’s Last Words
On April 26, Union troops surrounded the Virginia farmhouse where Booth and Herold were hiding out and set fire to it, hoping to flush the fugitives out. Herold surrendered but Booth remained inside. As the blaze intensified, a sergeant shot Booth in the neck, allegedly because the assassin had raised his gun as if to shoot. Carried out of the building alive, he lingered for three hours before gazing at his hands and uttering his last words: "Useless, useless.”
Four of Booth’s co-conspirators were convicted for their part in the assassination and executed by hanging on July 7, 1865. They included David Herold and Mary Surratt, the first woman put to death by the federal government, whose boarding house had served as a meeting place for the would-be kidnappers.
    The Other Targets
While Lincoln's death at the hands of John Wilkes Booth will likely always be remembered as one of America's most heinous crimes, it should be recalled that Booth and his conspirators had two other targets that night, as well: Secretary of State William H. Seward and Vice President Andrew Johnson. Even though Lee had already surrendered to Grant, Booth reasoned that if they could kill the President, the Vice President, and the Secretary of State all on one night the Union would be thrown into disarray. And, with no formal right of succession - which wouldn't be codified in the Constitution until after the Kennedy assassination - Booth might have had a point.
The night that Lincoln was murdered, Seward was laid up in bed. He had been in a serious carriage accident just nine days earlier that had left him close to death. One of Booth's co-conspirators, Lewis Powell (aka Lewis Paine), talked his way into the Seward house pretending that he was delivering medicine. Stopped on the stairs by Seward's son, Frederick, Powell panicked, attacking Frederick and dashing into the Secretary of State's bedroom. He stabbed Seward multiple times, injured another of Seward's sons and his bodyguard, and retreated into the night thinking he had mortally wounded the Secretary of State. It was only after Powell was captured the next day that he discovered that Seward was still alive; Seward went on to make a full recovery, continuing to serve as Secretary of State under Andrew Johnson. (Johnson was to have been assassinated that night by George Azerodt, but the would-be killer chickened out.)

Want more?  KILLING LINCOLN, which makes its debut on Blu-ray and DVD June 11th.

With the summer months in full swing here...
Dental Hygiene needs to still be in your mind.
I know with us, the whole system of a routine has slacked off...
There is no getting up for school and the days are a bit lazy...
We still take care of our hygiene... as in Broxton had a dentist appointment as soon as summer started!

Since summer is in full effect, I wanted to share with you a few friendly tips to keep those Pearly Whites Shining!  (As well as  to offer a giveaway for one lucky reader!!!)

GEDC has been a leader in providing preventative dental care, orthodontics, cosmetic dentistry and specialty care for 30 years, serving the communities of their more than 200 locations. With 13 offices in Atlanta, Georgia , and 44 total offices in Georgia, GEDC is committed to making oral healthcare a little easier for Atlanta families by offering some simple tips.

    •             Two minutes, two times a day - Children should brush their teeth for two minutes, twice a day and floss after each brush. To encourage brushing for two minutes, find flavored toothpaste children enjoy or allow them to pick out their own toothbrush at the store.

    •             Supervised brushing: For your young children, parents should try monitoring their kids as they attempt brushing so they can get used to it before taking over for them, making sure their teeth are thoroughly brushed/clean.

    •             Use fluoride to combat tooth decay in two ways. Fluoride incorporates into the structure of developing teeth when it is ingested and it protects teeth when it comes in contact with the surface of the teeth. Fluoride is safe but should be used sparingly, if at all, on children under 6. Many water sources include fluoride, but also toothpaste and some supplements contain fluoride and are safe to use with children 6 and over.

    •             Limit sugary sweets and soda/juices and opt for nutritious food and beverage choices this summer.  Some healthy summer “sweet” options include homemade granola bars, hummus and “ants” on a log. Healthy eating can help fight tooth decay and can also stimulate your gums and boost the production of saliva.

    •             Preventive tooth sealants can be given to children as soon as their adult teeth grow in. Sealing their adult teeth can help prevent future cavities and tooth decay.

    •             Bring your children along to your dentist appointments. From an early age, it’s helpful to get your children used to visiting dentist offices so that they get into the habit of going and learn the importance of twice annual visits. Also, be sure to discuss any of your children’s health concerns with the dentist (even if it’s not oral-related) since there is sometimes a connection you might not be aware of.

One lucky winner will win a great gift basket filled with items to fight cavities as well as a Smile Protection Plan.
(Must live near a GEDC location to partake in the Smile Protection Plan. )

Each night we go to bed, Broxton enjoys reading a couple books.  Of course, I love this time to snuggle with him, so I am always ready to read a couple to him.  The one we have been reading lately is Are You My Friend Today by Gyo Fujikawa.  That is the one thing that I really love about being a blogger....  I love that Broxton and I get to explore all different books and we get to share them with you!!

This book was not one that I have ever heard of and to be honest, I probably would not have grabbed it at the store... but it is cute and I am glad we have it to add to our collection!!!

This book shows the difference in all sorts of kids and what all goes on for them daily...
It starts with "We Are Friends" and it shows all sorts of kids playing together...
Some laughing, running, consoling their friends, playing catch, reading...
You name it, they are doing it.  No matter their ethnicity or gender!!!

From play dates to playing pretend, each event is filled with the emotions of childhood...
I especially liked the page with their feelings being discussed, as Broxton and I have been talking about what all feelings friends have and although you never want to hurt someone's feelings, you also want to make sure you always THINK of their feelings, no matter good or bad!!!
They even have a page about your imaginary friend!  (loved it!)
    The best was the end...
They reminded them they would be back tomorrow...
Since they are friend till the end!!!

What a cute book to add to your library!!!

    What are you reading now??

    Bedtime Stories and Prayers #digintoreading

I am glad you are back to join me in another review for my Dig Into Reading....
We have made it a point to try and read several books a day....
Broxton has even decided that he needed his own library card, so we have been visiting the library and reading about different things too!!!
This is such a cute book!!!
The first page of the book is a dedication page... Perfect for gift giving!
I personally think this would be a great gift to give at a baby shower!

Bedtime Stories and Prayers is over 100 pages.
    Each page is beautifully illustrated.
It is full of color, but not so overwhelming to distract from reading at bedtime.
A plus for me?  The kids are from all sorts of ethnicity.  I love that there is not just one race represented  as that is not how it is in the real world and I want Broxton to know to be friends with everyone.

The book is composed of many stories.
The first one is Bedtime Blessings.  It is helping us get ready for the night...
Hush- Hush sunset paints the sky.  Night is falling.  Hush-a bye...
From brushing your teeth to catching fireflies...  Each page is an adventure to prepare for bedtime, all while remembering that "God makes nighttime too."

The next bedtime story is Thank You, God.
I love this story, as we talk about all that God made...
Day and night,   Moon and Sun.  Even the little blessings from above :)
Giving Thanks to God all the time is a great lesson to pass along!

Blessings Everywhere is the third story in the book.
It obviously talks about blessings... from cute little lady bugs to your friends.
It shares with us all the blessings around us and reminds us to be thankful!!

I am always up for trying new stuff.
Broxton will try things from time to time... But if you try and MAKE him.... forget about it.
If you offer and then go on about your business, he will most likely try it.
(At least if you are anyone that is NOT his daddy!  ha ha ha)
We were sent the Macro Greens/ Miracle Reds products for review and I was not really sure what to expect.   It was a powdered mix and Broxton was eager to help me out.
Of course, they package it totally marketing it to kids...  So, he wanted to try it before I even offered it!
The directions say to add a little water before to the mix to try and turn it into a liquid before adding milk or whatever you plan to do with it.
It was not that easy for us.  Each time we tried to mix it, we still had spots that we just could not get to dissolve.  I honestly do not know if the company is at fault or not.  Ha ha ha... when you have a 4 year old running the show on the first couple of times, it really is hard to tell!!!
After about the 3rd or 4th time of making it, we pretty much have it figured out, minus one or two parts that just do not seem to want to dissolve.  I finally gave up on it and when drinking with a straw, it isn't a big deal.
Broxton seemed to like the coco one the most:

Since the boys were here for their summer break, I figured I would let them test it out as well.
The youngest tried the Miracle Reds (berry) and he was not a fan.  He would not say anything negative about it, but he was not quick to drink it down and has not asked for it again...
I was not really impressed with the berry flavor. I am not sure what I was looking for.  I think I would have been more likely to enjoy if it were more of a strawberry flavor...   It just seemed sort of light.

All in all, the coco flavor was the best to me (and seems to be the same for Broxton)  It wasn't that the berry had a bad taste, it just was not that strong of a taste for me.  To change it up, this is a nice addition to have around.  I did see they have a recipe section on their site, so I will be trying these out soon! ( I am 100 % certain the boys will inhale them smoothies!!!!)

Bottom line, when life gets to hectic and we aren't eating as healthy as we should...
I like knowing there is the MacroLife line to add fruits and veggie servings to Broxton's diet.
(They also make adult ones too!)
