Jumpin-Beans

At 8 years old, we are into the Chapter Book stage of reading.  Broxton has a love hate relationshop right now and I think it might be more hate than love, since he is totally burned out with school this year.  I have already told him that he will still be reading and writing this summer and we have a new book in our stack to read.  (No, I am not going to make him do school work daily, but I do want to keep his brain going and not just on video game mode.)   One book we have to read?  The Explorers: The Door in the Alley by Adrienne Kress.  One thing I like about it?  It is book one, so hopefully he will enjoy it and we have just found a new series to read!   FTC Compliant Review Policy:   The product(s) featured in this review were provided free of cost to me by the manufacturer or representing PR agency for the sole purpose of product testing. As many know, we love books here.  I love reading and love reading to my children. Broxton would much rather me read TO him instead of him read, so we are working on that. He is in 2nd grade now and just came home the other day telling me that he has found books he likes!  He wants me to start buying him CHAPTER BOOKS so he can read them.  I pointed out that I had bought plenty of chapter books for him, he just needed to start reading them. The reason I am telling you this?  Sky Pony Press (we have worked with them on books before and are still working on building our library for Savannah with their great titles) has decided to give chapter books a try.  They have two that they have released and both sound pretty amazing.  I think Broxton would love them, so we might have to check these out soon!   FTC Compliant Review Policy:    The product(s) featured in this review were provided free of cost to me by the manufacturer or representing ...

Although "chapter books" are a bit mature for Broxton, we still were happy when the Captain America books from Disney Publishing showed up in the mail!  I am not sure if you have to keep a reading log for how much you read to / with your child... but these were fun for us.  Each night, we would discuss if we were going to read 1-2 or 3 chapters... and then we would snuggle up and read them, logging the minutes for his school.    I love that although they are chapter books, they break things up with illustrations (and in The Secret Files book, they even have photos from the movie!) Both of these books would make great additions for the holidays... Either something to read on road trips over the holi...
