The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel - Available September 18

I used to be all "in the know" on movies...
If I wanted to see them, if I though they were going to be good or bad...
I had an opinion on them all...
That was before I was a mom and definitely before we moved where there is no rental store...
I love that I get to review movies on here, so I get to still share my thoughts on the movies that are out there...
Recently, I was sent a copy of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and to be honest, I had no opinion going into it about what it was ...
My mom simply kept asking "is that the movie where they all move to India?"
I had to tell her I had no clue, but once I watched it, I would let her know...

So ...
Now that I have seen it, let me share with you...

The movie actually had a great cast...
Many of the faces were familiar and I knew I knew them, but wasn't familiar with any of the names... The three characters I recognized the most :
Dev Patel - the kid in Slumdog Millionaire (I knew that was him, I had to look him up on IMDB to prove to my self I was correct!)  Judi Dench - Voice of Miss Lilly in Angelina Ballerina and  Maggie Smith - LOVED her in Sister Act.
The plot of the story is there is a group of senior citizens that go to India to live in a "retirement resort" of sorts...   One lady had recently lost her husband and was having to start over, so instead of moving in with her kids, she chose to go there and start a completely new life...   One couple had recently lost all of their money helping their daughter start off on a new venture... They had not had a return profit as fast as they hoped for.  Judi Dench's character actually went to India to have hip replacement surgery, as she was able to get it done faster there than if she had waited in the states...
There are several other story lines, but you have to watch to see.
Basically, each  person has their own reason for being there... and although they may not see it yet, each person will be faced with many new "adventures" and eye opening experiences.
I personally felt like I was watching a spin off of "Eat, Pray, Love" for seniors at times...
You may wonder how Dev Patel fits in... He is actually the owner of the hotel.
He wants to follow in his father's footsteps of owning this exquisite hotel, but it seems everyone is against him... The hotel doesn't have doors.. Phone doesn't work... Has NO support what so ever from his mother...
This movie was a bit slow, but it also gave you time to really feel the characters...  and to realize...
We may all have different dreams and drives to do what we want in life... But there is no excuse.  You are never too old to follow your heart!

Lift-the-Flap and Learn - Two New Books

I can not lie to you...
Let me tell you something and I am not ashamed to admit it...
I am 33 years old (just turned it in August...) and I have really enjoyed LEARNING flipping through two new books that we just received for review...

Up first, Who's Looking at  You?, is a great lift the flap book that has you guessing what eyes are staring back at you...  I tell you what, each time I wanted it to be an owl and I kept going whoo- who - whoo...
but they had all sorts of animals...
From the first one (a Gorilla, I got that one) you learn that a Gorilla doesn't want you to stare, they think it is a sign of anger... to the page with the sea turtle, did you know that when they leave the water, they shed tears?  It is to get the salt water out and to keep sand out...
I loved the information that I was learning...
The only drawback I have?  The last two pages had eyes on them and you could flip the flap to see what animal it was, but there was no "tidbit of information" on there... I wanted more!

The other book, Tushes and Tails, has you looking at the other end...
I admit, I was not so sure at looking at the back end of animals, but it was kinda fun to guess what I was looking at!
Yes, the cow was kinda hard NOT to get right with those udders all in your face, but I had no clue about the Okapi.  I was all sort of yelling, ZEBRA like I was on wheel of fortune or something, then I turned the page and nope... Dead wrong.. Well, not totally wrong, as the Okapi has a striped pattern like a zebra that helps the baby follow its mom on their journey.. but get this... it is a cousin of the giraffe! Did not know that one!
I also learned that a groundhog whistles out a warning to his friends before going underground if he spots danger... Talk about a great friend!
This book also has the last two pages with more tushes and less information.
I have to go with the other book... I want more!
More I say!  More more more...
Hope that they make more Flip the Flap Books...
Maybe noses ...  Feet... Skin...
I don't know, but it was neat learning this!

This was not only a great book to read and learn, the photography in here was amazing!
If you love animals, or just learning in general... I suggest grabbing these now!

Sons Of Anarchy - Boot Campaign

I think I am one of the few "motorcycle fans" that has yet to see Sons Of Anarchy.
You see, everyone we know that has a bike, or has had a bike, or knows bikers has told us that we have "got to see" SOA.  We just haven't watched yet...
Key word...   YET

I hate that so many Motorcycle Clubs get bad names because you have some that think they are bad...
but for the majority, they are good... At least in my opinion...
When Marc first joined a MC, one of the boys asked why he joined a "gang" and if he was going to get all sorts of  "gang tattoos"  (Marc already has tat's)   It was quite funny, seeing that even at his age, he was associating a MC with "gang."  We started telling him about it not being a gang, but a brotherhood...

I am proud to tell you about how some of the stars of Sons of Anarchy teamed up with the Boot Campaign for the second annual boot ride and rally on August 26th in California...
If you are not familiar with the Boot Campaign, visit their site and learn more... I have to say, before SOA teamed up with them, I had never heard of them.. BUT, as an ARMY wife, I am glad to know about it now.. Not to mention if we ever have an extra $100 laying around, I totally want a pair of the boots :)

Here are a few images from the Boot Campaign Ride and Rally with a few stats from the event:

·       On Aug. 26, FX’s Sons of Anarchy cast led the morning motorcycle charity ride with 450 riders/300 passengers following behind as they traveled from Route 66 Classic Grill in Santa Clarita to Happy Endings bar in Hollywood
·       Proceeds from the ride and rally tickets purchased as well as on-site merchandise benefits The Boot Campaign, which looks to raise funds for military personnel returning home from combat
·       All ride and rally tickets were completely sold out by the Thursday prior to the event as the venue was already sold to complete capacity (1,400 rally attendees) – a huge leap from last year’s inaugural event
·       The event celebrated Sons of Anarchy Season 4 on Blu-ray & DVD with a giant DVD promotional stand prominently placed on the red carpet and press line and the riders/passengers received the Blu-ray in their VIP rider packs
·       After the ride and the VIP meet and greet, the cast of Sons of Anarchy walked the red carpet chatting with press and posing for photos for promotions and fans alike. Those in attendance included, Ron Perlman, Theo Rossi, Charlie Hunnam, Kim Coates, Kurt Yeager, William Lucking, Ryan Hurst, Winter Avezoli, Chris Reed, Dayton Callie, Mark Boone Junior, Tommy Flanagan, Maggie Siff, Chris Browning, Emilio Rivera, Michael Ornstein, and more.
·       Additional red carpet appearances were made by After party will feature a live performance by hit artists, Blackberry Smoke Leeann Tweeden (Fox Sports); Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch including Matt Bradley, Edgar Hansen, Mike Fourtner, Scott Hillstrand and Sig Hansen; Blackberry Smoke
·       After red carpet arrivals, Boot Ride and Rally event ambassadors Theo Rossi and Kim Coates introduced the party portion and announced performing band Blackberry Smoke who played hits from its new album The Whippoorwill

I told you all motorcycle clubs aren't bad!  See?
They do tons of great things for the area and for different charities! The MC that Marc is part of will be doing a bike ride soon with the donations and proceeds to help with a local children's shelter in our area.

In a Land Called Honalee? Puff The Magic Dragon

Puff the Magic Dragon, lived by the sea, And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honalee.....

Tell me this, can you read that without singing the song?
I might be the only one, but as soon as I started reading the board book of Puff the Magic Dragon (out to celebrate the 50 years of magic)  I was singing the song like it was on the radio!
I just could not help my self!
We love books and singing and dancing and playing and everything else, so when the board book arrived, I was quick to grab it and look through to see the sweet and loveable dragon being brought to life all over again!  Can you believe that Puff the Magic Dragon celebrates its 50th year this September?!
I mean, where does the time go?
I am glad to know that Broxton will not only know the song (and the movie,) but that we will also now have the book to flip through and relive the magic over and over again...

The board book is 24 pages, enough to give you the enjoyment, but not so much to weigh you down if you want to carry this with you somewhere.

Each page greets you with the beautiful illustration from Eric Puybaret that shows not only the sweet and mystical dragon, but that exotic location of Honalee...
Shown on pages of soft blues and greens, just right for a dragon and his best friend!
I loved that in a day with mean old dragons and pirates and all sorts of scary characters filling the minds of our children, it was nice to reminisce of days gone bye... Days where the fun of Jackie and Puff was all a kid needed...  days where the pirates lowered their flags, kings bowed their heads.. all for PUFF!

What a great way to look back and enjoy the days.....

I have loved reading this with Broxton and know we will continue to read / sing such a great song!
"Puff the Magic Dragon... lived by the Sea... "

Know A Sports Parent Of the Year?

Growing up, we always had a subscription to Sports Illustrated.  I am serious, I think my dad probably started getting it when we had a magazine sale or something and then we always kept it... I even sent Marc our SI issues after we read them when he was deployed... I know it was late, but interesting articles is better late than never, right?  My dad had SI and then I believe it was my brother that started getting Sports Illustrated for Kids...  We are very much sports fans, so I figured when Broxton got a bit older, we would once again have SI for Kids in our house... I never really thought about the fact that the boys might enjoy reading them when they come to visit... Everyone can use "reading material" at some point or another, if you know what I mean...   That being said, go ahead and sign up for a subscription today... At only $19.95 a year (which includes the tablet edition and the print edition...)  it is really too good to pass up.
If you would like to sign up for a subscription for SI for Kids for a kid you know, just head on over and do it... but come back, as I have something to tell you...
Do you think you know the "Sports Parent of the Year?"
If you do, you might want to listen up...
Sports Illustrated for Kids is currently running a contest for people to enter the "Sports Parent of the Year" on their website....
It is pretty simple to enter, just submit their name, email address, state, hometown and then a short paragraph explaining why you believe they should win.  I really like the simplicity of the entry, as it is sure to get many nominations.  The best part is it will not be a "voting" or "popularity contest" but will be judged by the editorial staff of Sports Illustrated!
Please head over to the entry page to read the rules before entering...
Contest deadline is 9/24, so hurry up!

I would love to enter Marc, as I think he is wonderful ... but truthfully, due to his schedule, I know there are other parents out there in the world that would technically qualify better, but for our house.. He has already won the award, hands down!

Do you know someone that you might nominate?

I will receive a SI Kids goody basket and a year subscription to Sports Illustrated Kids in conjunction with this post.

Do You See Me? W/W

Marc has been away for training with the ARMY...

Once he was home, Broxton was a happy boy...
Especially since he brought home "Army Makeup" according to Broxton!!!!

Ha ha ha...
Of course daddy had to "paint" Broxton's face for him!
I love these two!
Hope you all are having a great week!

Sweet Tea, Tetley Please

As we all know, I am a Georgia Girl..  Born and Raised.

A "true Southerner."
With that, I hope you know that this Southern Girl LOVES Sweet Tea.
A nice glass of Sweet Iced Tea is always a good thing.
It is something that can not be played around with either :)

It is funny when you go to a restaurant that serves UNsweet Tea only...

If you order Sweet Tea, they will either say they do not make it, or they will tell you that they will bring you a glass of unsweet tea and some sugar and you can make it yourself...
If you are a sweet tea fan, as I am, you know that doesn't work...

The tea has to be hot/warm when you add the sugar to get it to melt...

Let me tell you the best way to make your sweet tea:
Purchase TETLEY ICED TEA bags.
Put your tea bag in a pot of water.  Let the water come to a nice boil.  Once it is boiling, turn the stove off and place a lid on your pot.  Let it steep for a bit.  (Time varies when I make it)
Add sugar to your tea pitcher.  (Amount depends upon how sweet you want your tea.)
Then, pour your steeped tea into the pitcher.
Stir the sugar to melt into the tea.
Then add ice cold water to fill up the pitcher.
Stir it, place in fridge.
Pour over ice when ready to drink.
It is pretty good with a lemon, but Marc doesn't like it with lemon.

(I say Tetley, as that has been the Tea I have always enjoyed... My Nana used to make Tetley, so I was raised on it.)

If you like hot tea, you can join the craze and try out "teasplashing" : combine either green or black decaffeinated Tetley Tea with 100% juice – apple, blueberry and pomegranate.
Why am I telling you this?
Well, because for the most part, I can talk about anything... at least a little..
But really, it goes back to the Olympics and an email I received...

Here is the email:

-----
All of the athletes who found success in London this summer share the traits of dedication, instinct and phenomenal physical abilities.  But could there be another common thread between the countries that found the most success in the summer games?
Tetley, the British tea enjoyed by more English households, looked at the important role tea plays in the cultures of the top winning countries to see if it might be the secret weapon.

United States:
The US had a solid showing in swimming and the women’s gymnastics team was able to keep their cool to reclaim the top title.  As it happens, in the US, 85% of tea is consumed over ice - which is quite different from the rest of the world.  So tea- hot and iced is still a popular beverage throughout the country.

China:
With top honors in sports like swimming and diving, China was a dominant force this Summer.  Tea happens to be one of the most important parts of any meal or social gathering in China and is had with almost every meal.

Russia:
Russia not only came with top honors on the mat with gymnastics but also dominated on the Track & Field events.  Russia was part of the most dramatic battle against the American gymnast for first place.  These athletes showed tremendous performance and are now running for third place with the most winning medals. Tea is a traditional beverage in Russia and it is consumed by more than 90% of Russian citizens and is a very important part of hospitality and hosting guests.
