I am really loving the Burton the Scarecrow series that we were sent for review.  I love that you can buy the whole series, or just individual books and I think that they would make great gift ideas!  If you have a young one in your life, you could actually buy this set of books to help to building a great home library!

You might wonder why you would want a set of books "about a scarecrow" but guess what - that is just a small part.  The MORAL compass of each book far outweighs the scarecrow of it all... The scarecrow character just makes it more "kid friendly"  but the message is something that many of the adults in the world could learn from!

Book 3 - Burton's Harvest Party :
With Grandma Green away judging the State Quilting Contest, it’s up to Farmer Green and his grandchildren to decorate for the fall harvest celebration. With help from Burton the Scarecrow and his barnyard friends, Farmer Green and the children host one humdinger of a harvest party!

What a super cute book!  I will admit, I was not expecting the end... and I loved it! When Farmer Green's wife not being able to help plan the  fall harvest, Farmer Green tries his best...   but Burton, being such a kind scarecrow, realizes that more can be done.  As much as the Farmer looks out for him, he wants to make sure to look out for him as well!    What a cute book with a great message!

Book 4 - Burton and the Christmas Tree:
When Firry, a proud Douglas fir, is damaged and discarded on his way to the tree lot, he soon learns that being first rate means much more than being the finest tree in the field. Rescued and repaired by Burton the Scarecrow and his little woodland friends, Firry discovers the true feeling of Christmas.

Another great book with Burton, but this leaves the focus more to a Christmas Tree named Firry.    Firry is a bit of a bragger and actually has negative feelings around him because of his attitude.  Luckily, he learns a bit of humility and of course, we have Burton the Scarecrow to thank for helping change his outlook!
Book 5- Burton Helps Dixie Duck:
Dixie Duck has always wanted a family, but she doesn’t like all the commotion in Farmer Green’s fowl yard! Deciding to nest by the nearby creek, Dixie lays seven beautiful eggs in a pile of soft dirt. When she returns from sharing her good news, Dixie discovers that her precious eggs are missing! When Burton the Scarecrow comes to help her find them, Dixie learns an important life lesson about cooperation, friendship and the value of companionship.

Dixie Duck made a perfect nest for her little eggs... but then the nest disappears!  What is she to do??   The farm animals know that Burton is the one that will have a plan!  I thought it was cute that the animals helped one another, but I also really enjoyed how Burton used reasoning in helping Dixie make a decision!  Another cute book on Farmer Greens Farm!

Burton the Scarecrow has recently made his way into our house and let me tell you- these books are super cute!  I was trying to figure out just how exciting a scarecrow would be and V.A. Boeholt has done a great job in keeping us entertained.  We were sent the 5 book series and I fell in love with Burton as soon as we met him.

Burton is awesome and a great role model for kids to have.  This post is going to share the first 2 books of the series and you will have to come back to learn of the last 3.   If you don't fall in love with the illustrations in the book, you will for sure fall in love with the stories you get to read!

Book 1 - Burton the Kind Scarecrow:
Whether he’s protecting Farmer Green’s crops or helping his friends, Burton the Scarecrow sets an example of kindness and commitment that will help young readers develop these strengths within themselves

In Burton the Kind Scarecrow, we are first introduced to Burton and learn what his job is around the farm... but Burton is more than just a scarecrow... he is a friend to all the animals in the area.  Thinking of HIMSELF before others.

Book 2 - Burton's Friendship Garden:
How does a garden grow? With a little love, some helping hands, and a lot of hard work! When Farmer Green is injured during spring planting season, Burton and his nearby bird and animal friends find a heartwarming solution to the farmer’s problem.

In Burton's Friendship Garden, we learn that Farmer Green has been injured.  Burton the Scarecrow takes it upon himself to take care of the garden to make sure that Farmer Green has  food to eat and sell.   I love that he takes control and is a good leader - not just someone barking out orders.

With all of Burton the Scarecrow books, the author has added a bonus for parents/ caregivers/teachers and more...
The end of each book includes a resource guide.
There is a glossary to help you work on learning words and definitions, a page on story concepts, reader & listener tips, reader & listener connecting points, and even ideas for activities.

Broxton is really getting more and more into reading and that makes me so happy!  Right now we are all about " what does S-T-O-P spell"  or "what does O-P-E-N spell"  every sign he can see, we have to discuss...   That is when we are riding around... Once we get home, we read books and have decided that we will start a book journal for the summer...  (We have never left the library with less than 5 books each time!)  What I love is that Disney Books has released the Super Hero "World of Reading" books and that makes little man happy- so that makes mama happy too!

Up first - The Amazing Spider-Man 2 - Fully Charged.
This book has us meet Peter Parker aka Spider Man and learn of a guy named Max.  Max has decided that he wants to be a villain and at the end of the day, it is Spider Man who has to try and save the city.  Max turns into the evil villain, Electro, and he thrives on POWER.  Electrical power - that shuts down the city!
See what Spider Man has to do to try and save the city!
If your little one is into STICKERS like Broxton, you will love that the added bonus of this is 2 sticker sheets inside the book!  Broxton spotted that first and was so excited!  (There is a sheet in the front of the book and then another at the end!)

The other book we were sent was This Is Thor  - World of Reading Level 1.
I will admit that I learned something in this book.  I am still getting into the super hero stuff, so I had NO IDEA that Thor also lived on Earth... As a doctor....  Am I alone on this one?
Dr. Don Blake is also Thor- I had no clue!  I like this, since it tells about Thor and Loki- and the magic hammer...   The sentences are simple (Perfect for Level 1 readers)  and the pictures make you enjoy it even more.

If you have an early reader, this is a great group of books!  Small enough that you can even throw it in a purse or a carry on bag!

Although summer break has started here (and most other places by now, right?)  it doesn't mean that it is time to put the books up. In my opinion, it is more important to keep reading books DURING the summer!!! Stimulate the mind, my friend, explore and discover new worlds and characters!   Or - you can be like us and revisit characters we know and love...  I was happy when we were sent the latest Disney Book Group Planes book to review - Disney Planes - Fire and Rescue :  Dusty's Big Job and we loved it!

This was such a super cute book!   I loved the message behind it and as always, I loved the illustrations!
In Dusty's Big Job, we see Dusty as he has been told he can not fly fast (and will no longer be able to race) due to engine issues.  He then decides that he wants to be a firefighter and heads off to train.  During that time, he makes great friends and is injured while on a mission...
He is upset about this and tells his trainer, Blade, that he wants to give up training to be a firefighter.
Blade says " If you give up today, think of all the lives you won't save tomorrow."
I absolutely LOVE that message!!!!
If you are a fan of the Disney Planes series, you will love this book!!!
It is a hard back book with thicker than normal pages (thicker than normal, but not a board book)  that means it would be great for travel!     As as added bonus, there is a "story book deluxe app" that you can download to test our your flying skills!  (iPad and iPhone app)

Another book we were sent was Disney Planes - Fly and Drive Read Along Storybook and CD.
This book here - Wow.
It is a great book with 4 wonderful stories!
It includes Cars, Cars 2, Air Mater and Planes.
With Cars, Cars 2 and Planes, it is the same story as the movie, just summarized it into a book with not that many pages.  With the Air Mater - you will have to read it to know about it, but it was cute - Mater was a special Stunt Plane!
With this book, it is also a hard cover book with thicker pages...  It would be great for a younger kid that is just learning how to handle a book.  This special thing about this?  It comes with a CD that will allow your little one to read along.  (It makes sounds that lets the little one know it is time to turn the page!)
I already have a special little friend that will be getting this for a birthday gift!
If you know a Disney Cars / Planes fan... This is a great book to purchase... It is UNDER $10.
