The Deep Black Pond - Book Review

Have you heard of the book, The Deep Black Pond by Morgan Kostival ?
We were able to review it and I tell you, the photography in it is very vivid.
Hard to figure out what some things are, but interesting to look at!
I thought Broxton would like it, since it was about a pond and the fish, since he likes them...
But, he was not really into it.
Actually, he could have cared less...
So, I read it, as I wanted to try and understand it...

The story is about a couple of creatures that live in the Deep Black Pond. There is so much Pond Scum that it is all dark and nasty... Which leads to the creatures not being able to see much around them. That makes them a bit nervous as to what is going on around them and not being "social" with the others living in the pond.
There is a King... and a Queen... and a Baron... but none socialize with each other!
The photos show the King and his gold.. The Queen and her mask... the Baron and his protective bubble... and "cuddles" the angry fish!

I will tell you this, it is a book that I have never read anything like before in my life...
And I have read plenty of books... I just really did not get it...
I am going to see if my friends 5 year old might want to read it, because I really have no clue the targeted age on it.
The author says "I write to preserve my child-like imagination that, sadly, too many adults forget how to use." so I was thinking it was for a younger crowd...
I think it might be a book worth checking out before purchasing though...
Just to make sure it will captivate your reader!

Synopsis:
The children's adventure The Deep Black Pond takes place on a very special tropical island. The fanciful creatures there inhabit a small pondsituated in the middle of the island. Follow the misadventures of one of these tiny creatures named Mimi the peewee. Learn just how Mimi becomes the very first pink pearl in the world! At the same time, Mimi unknowingly brings together all the other creatures living in the pond by inspiring cooperation and friendship. This fable-like bedtime story will enthrall your little ones, as Mimi meets the Queen of the water lilies, Cuddles the fish, and the mysterious Baron. You will also see the mysteries of the deep through the talented eyes of author/photographer Morgan Kostival, who says, "I write to preserve my child-like imagination that, sadly, too many adults forget how to use."

#HolidayGiftGuide - Ornaments With Love

Do you have traditions at your house for Christmas?
My grandmother used to give me a Christmas ornament every year...
My mom used to give my brother and I Christmas Ornaments every year....

So, once Marc and I got married, I tried to get an ornament or something special to go on the tree for the boys...
My mom gave them UGA / LSU ornaments one year... We have been doing pictures for a couple years....
Then, last year...
We received an Ornament from Ornaments With Love.

Have you ever seen the ornaments that they have?
You can find a personalized ornament for each and every family member!
The boys absolutely LOVED the ornament that we received last year and I know they will love the one that I picked out for this year!!!

I had a tough time narrowing one down, as they are all so cute!!!

If you have a loved one serving... You can choose from several of their Military Ornaments.
(I wish I had known this when Marc was deployed, we had a yellow ribbon on the tree in our front yard, this ornament would have been awesome on the tree!)
If you love your team... As you know, I am UGA all the way, Marc is LSU... This would be a great gift idea! They have several teams represented under the Personalized College Ornaments.
(No worries, if you are into Pro more, they have that as well!)
We have enough ornaments, so I wanted to get one to represent us a family...
You just click on the families tab. Since there is so many of us, we then clicked on Extra Large Family Ornaments.
Since I do not want to ruin the surprise of what our ornament looks like...
I will show you a cute family ornament for a family of 4, since that is not us! LOL
You can pick an ornament for pretty much any family size! I even saw one that had room for like 16 names!!!!
These would be great gift idea's for grandparents!!!!!
I have been really impressed with our ornaments.
They are nice and sturdy, but not so heavy that they won't stay on the tree limb!!!!
The personalization is just going a step above to make it really yours!!!
As I said, thanks to Ornaments With Love, we have a new family tradition!!!
A new "family ornament" each year!!!!

#HolidayGiftGuide - The Planet Gazimbo #Giveaway

Do you know what makes Broxton laugh?
Crazy silly words!
Yes... and laugh he did when we reviewed the book, The Planet Gazimbo In Galaxy Zamz!

With characters like the Gumblies, Gazoopers, and Gams!
Just saying them out loud, don't you see?

They live in a Galaxy far from Earth.
Well, the Gumblies started getting greedy and had the others all needy...
Which started them into fighting with one another.
Who could build bigger and better?
Who had more money?
Long story short.... they had a visitor show up in the sky...
They fought it and nothing would work...
UNTIL they worked together...
Come to find out, it was PEACE, and at that point, they learned they needed one another!

It was a cute book...
(Broxton loved the illustrations and the funny words!)
I thought it was a good message and I enjoyed reading such a silly sounding book with him!!!!

Targeted for ages 8 and older.
Synopsis:

#HolidayGiftGuide - I Believe In You by Marianne Richmond

October was National Anti Bully Month... But that doesn't mean that we should forget about it now that it is over... Each day, a kid somewhere is being bullied... Be it at home or school... From a loved one or a peer.
It is quite sad when you think about it...
Our kids need to know that we believe in them.
We are there for them, cheering all the way!

Marianne Richmond wrote yet another wonderful book.
(We have another of her books that we bought right before Marc deployed that I read to Broxton every night before he went to sleep...)
The latest book from her?
I Believe In You.

As with her other books, it has simple childlike illustrations that are cute enough to capture the attention of the reader, but not so elaborate that it distracts.
This book starts off with:
"You came into our family with a big, BIG job to do,
the one of growing up into the one and only you!"
It then takes us from having a bad day to thinking you aren't smart enough to do something.
It also deals with when a team doesn't pick you or your friends are being wishy-washy...
I love how it states that each day is an adventure and " I believe in you!"

I really enjoyed reading this to Broxton...
I love the message...
I love a book that we can read and reinforce that I believe in him!!!!

This is for sure a must have to go under your tree this year!!!!

I still do not get the whole Shaun the Sheep, but Broxton laughs, so that is all that matters, right?

I still don't get it...

Chip Off The Old Block: The Farmer has taken up sculpting, but unintentionally drops a huge slab of stone on top of Timmy’s teddy. Shaun and the flock must struggle and strain to lift the heavy block and retrieve the precious toy.
Shirley Whirley: In a bid to help move Shirley around the farm, Shaun has the idea of fitting up Shirley with wheels. Using a remote control, Shaun can now maneuver his large friend around easily – until The Farmer’s TV remote interferes with the signal, causing Shirley to run amuck.

W/W - A Boy in the Dirt

I got to thinking about it...
Living in an apartment, Broxton has never really had the chance to play in dirt...
Our playground isn't the best... So, we stick to the porch and plenty of cement!

About a month or so ago, Broxton got it in his head he really wanted to play in the dirt...

So, we went on the OTHER SIDE of our porch...
Hey, we don't have much to work with here!!!!
Then, daddy decided he wanted to clean it up a bit for Broxton to play in....
Now, we have a "construction zone!"
Then, daddy had to tell Broxton what each tractor did and they played in the dirt...
Broxton loved it!!! He would have stayed out there for hours!
A boy and his dirt!
Come back next week to see what we ended up doing!!!!
Happy Wednesday!

#HolidayGiftGuide Keeps On Going!!!!

If you noticed my Holiday Gift Guide Button is gone...
That is because the Holiday Gift Guide has been extended!
So, if you see the image above, it is still a Holiday Gift Guide Post!!!

Yay!!!!

#HolidayGiftGuide- Nalgene Outdoor Water Bottles #GIVEAWAY

No matter what, we all need to drink water.
I try to drink plenty each day and I admit, I sometimes fall short.
I have realized that I do better at my amount of water if I have it in bottles.
Because of that, I keep several water bottles in our fridge. You know, like if I finish off a juice bottle, I refill it with water.
That is good for the house, but I am not going to go to the gym or out to run errands with that big ugly thing!
Now, I do not have to!
Thanks to Nalgene Translucents I can drink my water with pride!
It is BPA free too!

Do you have a cute and fun water bottle?
Or is yours plain?

We reviewed the 16 oz and the 32 oz.
Nalgene even gives you an option of a wide mouth or a narrow mouth.
Want to hear something?
At home, I like the narrow mouth, as I am not gulping....
But, when I was at the gym (or out walking) I like the wide mouth!
Water just tastes so much better and I can not seem to get enough then!

Wide Mouth: I like because I can add ice cubes!

Narrow Mouth: I like because I am less likely to make a mess!

Either way, I love them ... and love that we got the Lilac one...
The purple colors are nice and can be used for me... and for Marc (he can say it's purple for LSU!)

So - If you are looking for a great new water bottle for you...
Or a great gift idea for someone...
These are great and at under $10 very affordable!

From their site:

#HolidayGiftGuide - VeggieTales #Giveaway

I will just go ahead and admit it...
I have never really watched VeggieTales.
Broxton was given several VeggieTales gifts for his birthday last year...
but that is the extent of it.
We don't go to the movie rental places or anything, so we never rent them and I do not recall seeing them on television..

We were so lucky to have been given the chance to review two of their DVD's for my holiday gift guide.

I really liked this one, as Broxton has a problem with listening to mommy and daddy all the time. He is very independent and thinks he can do it all... He is learning that he needs to listen and we tried to discuss that a bit more while watching this movie.

Quick Overview

When Larry's new Space Squadron game finally arrives, he's so anxious to play that he forgets to read the directions. When his friends do their best to tell him, Larry refuses to listen! What happens? His games goes 'KERPOW!' That's when Larry learns a valuable lesson in listening as his friends come to the rescue. Kids will discover, right along with Larry, that God gave friends and family to help us though each day-- so when we listen we don't miss what others have to say!

Also includes two classic shows: "Pistachio - The Little Boy Who Woodn't" and "Josh and the Big Wall"

The other movie we were sent for review was Bob Lends a Helping Hand.
Broxton is very much into being a helper. He is always wanting to help with the dishes, "clean up time," unloading the groceries from the car and even getting the milk jug to get his milk.
I love that he likes being a helper instead of wanting others to do it for him. Just like the VeggieTales in the movie!!!

Quick Overview

When Joe's mom breaks her big left toe, Bob the Tomato decides to help. Larry and Joe offer their 'superhero' help, too, but that's not exactly what Bob has in mind. Kids will discover right along with Larry and Joe that everyone can be a superhero if you lend a helping hand!

Includes two classic shows:
"Tomato Sawyer and Huckleberry Larry's Big River Rescue" and "Lyle the Kindly Viking"

One winner will win a copy of both of these DVDs!!!!
