Odd Squad - The Movie

Image
Math is not my thing. I can do it, but I don't really enjoy it.  Now, my dad and my brother?  That is another thing... they love it and use it every day in their line of work.  I am happy to report that Broxton will be following along them, as he loves numbers and I can proudly say that is is good at it. Last year, I was so happy and excited when we got a report from his school saying that in the math portions of tests, he was considered Advanced!    Yay!!! I know it isn't from me, so I can thank The Odd Squad for showing him numbers are cool and that you do actually use them every day!  He loves this show and when he found out they made a movie, he was so excited!   Now, he can watch it whenever he wants to!!! Are you part of the Odd Squad?

A show that Broxton loves watching is one called Odd Squad. I have blogged about it before, because he really does love watching it.   I will tell you now, he watches some really stupid cartoons, but when this show comes on, it actually makes me happy that he is watching it!  It teaches him MATH without it being boring and feeling like you are in a classroom/ Seriously, I don't mind the TV on when it is educational programming and that is why I love PBS.  Are you familiar with Odd Squad?  If you are, don't you love it?  If you aren't, and you have younger children around, check it out!  I bet you will become a fan of it too! Odd Squad just released another awesome DVD, Creature Encounters.  I have not given it to Broxton yet, I am thinking this might be a Christmas gift.  Let's see how these next few weeks hold up and then I will decide! Broxton's Favorite Show - Odd Squad - The O Games

Image
You know how you get the end of the year report card during the summer?  Well, when Broxton's arrived, I was proud for the good marks he got.  Want to know something else??? There was an additional sheet in there about testing scores... and MY BABY BOY scored "ADVANCED" in math!!!  YEAH!!!! I was so proud.  He was proud too. He loves math and I honestly love when he watched Odd Squad, because I get to watch his little brain at work as he answers the math questions with the show!!!   I am so happy we received this DVD to add to our collection. I am giving it to him as a back to school surprise!   FTC Compliant Review Policy:   The product(s) featured in this review were provided free of cost to me by the manufacturer or representing PR agency for the sole purpose of product testing. Broxton used to love PBS when he was younger and I really hope that the shows we fell in love with in his toddler stage are shows that Savannah grows to love as well.  One show that I thought was awesome? Super Why!!!  LOOK IN A BOOK!!!!!  If you know me, you know I love reading, so the cartoon that promotes reading is of course one I will want to see.  Broxton had several of the toys when he was younger and I am glad to see they are still producing great shows for the younger kids to enjoy these days!!!   The latest?  Goldilocks and the Three Bears and other fairy-tale adventures!   Image Credit - Amazon Super Why - Goldilocks and the Three Bears...

Well, we use it in moderation and to be honest, I think each child is different and just because it might work with one, doesn't mean it will work with the others.  For us, we watch one show before bedtime. The show that Broxton is requesting right now?  Odd Squad.  I had never heard of it, but once we started watching it nightly, I think it is a great choice.  An added bonus?  It is all about MATH and that is his strong subject!  He loves it and is really good at it.  I love hearing him answer the questions as he watches the show!!!!  They have a new DVD being released on March 1...

Opinions expressed are my own and are NOT influenced by monetary compensation. As I mentioned before how Broxton is into board games right now, I found another game that I hope Santa brings him!!!  The game is Monkeys Up and it is a fun game that can be played in a group, or individually.    The great thing about this game is that it uses numbers and luckily he is all about math these days!!! Please note that it says " FLIP'EM, SWITCH'EM and STEAL'EM"  What gamer doesn't like "stealing them" to be part of the way to play and win in a fun fast paced game?   This game consists of red plastic monkeys.  They have either a number (up to 15) or an X on the bottom.  You also have 1 die that has words like steal, flip or switch on it.  This game can be pl...

Opinions expressed are my own and are NOT influenced by monetary compensation .   I will admit, most times, we have the TV on in the house.  We aren't really watching it, it is more of a background noise for us.  (Same goes for car rides too, but I think we do listen more in their.)  I don't mind when the TV is on and it is an educational type show.  Some shows Broxton watches are pure entertainment (and I don't get it) but when it is something like Team UmiZoomi, I am fine with it.  He learns, its cute and I like it!  Nothing better than seeing him playing with his toys and then hearing him yell out the answer to the math problems they are asking on the TV!  Are you familiar with Team Umizoomi?  When the Space Hero episode came out on TV, he had me ...

Opinions expressed are my own and are NOT influenced by monetary compensation .   I have to admit that we really love Team Umizoomi in this house!  The only problem I have is that we didn't learn about this show until Broxton was  getting too old for it.  I love that he will still watch and yell the answers out to the questions, but I know the time is limited until he thinks he is too grown to watch this kid show!  (Lucky for us, we have another one on the way, so she will be able to learn from these DVD's soon enough!)  Team Umizoomi teaches all about math and the great thing is his teacher says he does really well in math and wanted to know if we worked on it a lot at home!!!   Milli, Geo and Bot are back with all-new friends and adventures in th...

Has holiday break started at your child's school?  It did here, today and I am very excited!  Yes, I love when he is in school, but I love our time together too!  We play, we laugh, we sleep, we watch movies, we snuggle, we read and we even do a little homework!   Yes, you read that right!   We work on homework a bit too!    It doesn't bother Broxton and I love that although we have LOTS of play time, we still do educational things as well!   Maybe we will write a letter, or color a picture... Work on counting or even work on shapes and colors.  Each day is something different, but the great thing is when I have " homework sheets" for him to work on as well!   I wa...

Opinions expressed are my own and are NOT influenced by monetary compensation. I admit, math has NEVER been a strong subject for me... I wish I was more like my dad and my brother, it just comes natural to them... I wish I was like them in that aspect... But, I do plan on doing everything I can to help Broxton! When I saw that there was a book, Bedtime Math, I was excited... As much as Broxton LOVES books... especially at bedtime, I knew this was going to be fun! I great "short story" to read... with a math problem to go with it! YES!!!! Bedtime Math is great for kids of all ages! It says it is for ages 3-8. This book is one to grow with.. On each page, you have a "story"  The story is basically a paragraph that is sure to keep kids attention (not to mention t...

Opinions expressed are my own and are NOT influenced by monetary compensation. Life has been pretty busy lately.. Between life in general and Broxton finishing up his first year of schoool... Oh, and did I mention that my brother grabbed this little ol' thing called a "MASTERS DEGREE?!" Well, between all of that... We were sent a new DVD for Broxton to watch. I try to let him come home and unwind from school with a little down time and what better way than Team UmiZoomi?  I love the UmiZoomi's as they teach ... not just entertain!!!!  Broxton loves watching them too and asks for them over and over again.  I remember growing up and hating some of my classes, I would always think "what do I need to learn this for?  I will never use it... "  and that was mostly for s...
