Scared Shrekless

Just in time for Halloween!!!!
Join in the fun with a double play of cute movies!

If you are having a Halloween Party or just want to get into the "spirit" of it all...
You will love this!

We were sent the Dreamworks Party Pack for review and Broxton was so excited.
Not only did we receive the movies for review, we also enjoyed the Halloween Pack that was included!!!!

We enjoyed:
Shrek Candy, Shrek Trick or Treat Bucket, Shrek Hands and Ears and Popcorn.

See how cute the candy is? Ha ha!
Look at their names!
Daddy feeding Broxton the "swamp slugs" with the Shrek Hands!
We (the older boys, my parents, Marc and I)love the Shrek movies, so I thought Broxton would like this Halloween take on it...
Not so much. He was scared by it.
The movie has Shrek and his buddies go to an old abandoned place and tell scary stories to see who is the bravest one there.
I laughed, but Broxton wasn't having it...
He ended up playing with his toys while I watched it, but once it was over, he asked to turn it back on.
I didn't... Maybe when he is older he will like it, but until then, I will leave it for the older ages.

He did enjoy the Monsters vs. Aliens movie though.
This was about an "alien invasion" on Halloween night. The "monsters" had to go to Earth and help save it. It was cute and Broxton really liked it.

I liked both and the fact they were short and not "full feature" length movies.

Synopsis:
In Scared Shrekless, the gang gathers to celebrate Shrek’s favorite holiday: Halloween! But instead of the usual tricks or treats, Shrek ups the ante and challenges everyone to spend the night telling scary stories—the last one to be scared Shrekless wins. The DVD includes spooky spoofs on classics horror movies and features the voices of Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz and Antonio Banderas.

Monsters vs. Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins from Outer Space finds Susan, B.O.B., The Missing Link, and Dr. Cockroach, Ph.D. dispatched as special operatives to investigate a mysterious alien presence on Halloween. As the night unravels, innocent-looking pumpkins are revealed for what they really are – mutant aliens! Luckily the monsters are there to smash the mutants’ wicked scheme to take over Earth. Monsters vs. Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins from Outer Space features the star-studded cast of voice talent from the original hit film including Reese Witherspoon, Seth Rogen, Hugh Laurie, Will Arnett, Kiefer Sutherland and Rainn Wilson.

#HolidayGiftGuide - Gyro Bowl #Giveaway

With the holidays, that also means travel.
At least for some families...
With travel for us, that means snacks in the car.

Have you seen the commercial for the GYRO BOWL?
You know the one, the kid is running around, down a hill and everything, carrying snacks and NOTHING falls out of the bowl?
Well, every single time we see this, we mention it would be great... IF it worked!
Now, I can say... It is great!!!

We were sent a Gyro Bowl for review and have enjoyed it so far...
No, I have not made Broxton climb a mountain and run down it to really test it out, but around the house and in the car, we have had no problems!!!
Okay, I take that back...
We have had one spillage.
That was totally my fault though!
I filled the bowl up to the point of overflowing.
So, when I was walking to give it to him, I spilled a couple of pretzels.
That being said, don't overflow it...
:) lesson learned!!!

We even gave it to him for a road trip.
Goldfish in there and none in the car seat!!!
Score one for the Gyro Bowl!!!

So, with all the travelling and visiting...
Or just to add sanity to your daily life...
This is one product that I say does pass our test!!!!

One lucky winner is going to win a Gyro Bowl!!!!

The kids end up meeting a strange new nocturnal creature – a mammal named Vlad Volaticotherium, who was hiding in the roundhouse trying to get some sleep. And in Big Pond Pumpkin Patch, the Pteranodon family learns more about the customs of their neighbors, the Lambeosaurus family, when they are invited for the first time to accompany them to the Big Pond to celebrate “Gourd Day” – a kind of Mesozoic Halloween. The kids see their first pumpkins, and Larry Lambeosaurus even shows our family how to hollow them out and carve faces into them.

Susie (dressed as a silly mad scientist) loves their costumes, and helps the kids discover that Halloween can be spooky and scientific! The kids investigate how bats are helpful creatures that catch mosquitoes, spiders are expert engineer web builders, cats are leaping aerial acrobats, and skeletons help hold up our body frames! At the Halloween party, the kids also investigate how to make icky, gooey green slime. Susie then ends the day with a special “Halloween Parade” song so the kids can march around and show off their spooky and scientific costumes!

Besides new shows and costumes....
There is now a new Dinosaur Train Book available!!!!
We just finished reading The Spooky Scavenger Hunt!
Once again, it is a cute book that not only lets us see what our favorite Dinosaur Train Characters are up too, it is also teaches us about the Dinosaurs. That is why I love this show as well as watching Broxton get all excited!
Although this is released for Halloween, it really doesn't focus on Halloween.
I love that it is a "spooky" book, but it isn't scary so that kids of all ages can enjoy it!

With this new book, we go on a Night Train and go on...
Yes, a spooky scavenger hunt!
It is basically having us use our senses to find the different things on the list..
(Example, listen to hear a frog... )
It is cute and just like the show, the illustration is adorable!
Just an FYI, Don and Shiny are too spooked to go, so they are not in this book.

Synopsis:
For a little scary Dinosaur Train Halloween Fun – enjoy reading The Spooky Scavenger Hunt” from Grosset & Dunlap in which Mr. Pteranodon takes Buddy and Tiny on a nighttime trip to the Big Pond for a spooky nature walk! Snow Flower and The Secret Fan on Blu-Ray/DVD Nov. 1

Snow Flower and the Ancient Proverbs

Coming to Blu-ray & DVD on Nov. 1

Growing up in 19th century China, Lily (Bingbing Li) and Snow Flower (Gianna Jun) are brought together in a Laotong friendship—a lifelong bond between two women who rely on each other for companionship and comfort. Amid the civil unrest and gender discrimination of the era, the pair deals with life’s hardships together until they are separated by marriage and childbirth. As sworn sisters, however, the women continue to communicate through the secret Chinese language of nushu, hiding their stories and messages within the folds of delicate silk fans.

Snow Flower’s best friend Lily learns about a Laotong from her aunt, who describes it as a “relationship made by choice for the purpose of emotional companionship and eternal fidelity.” Playing on this quote, and to celebrate the release of SNOW FLOWER AND THE SECRET FAN on Blu-ray and DVD Nov. 1, we will compile a list of other Chinese proverbs to live by, including, “A bird does not sing because it has an answer. It sings because it has a song” and, “Deep doubts, deep wisdom, small doubts, little wisdom.”

A bird does not sing because it has an answer. It sings because it has a song.

A child’s life is like a piece of paper on which every person leaves a mark.

He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.

Deep doubts, deep wisdom, small doubts, little wisdom.

He who strikes the first blow admits he’s lost the argument.

Jade must be chiseled before it can be considered a gem.

To know the road ahead, ask those coming back.

Outside noisy, inside empty.

A spark can start a fire that burns the entire prairie.

Behind every able man, there are always other able men.

***** I just wanted to share this with you, as it sounds like a heart touching movie... Not to mention that I love the "Child's Life" one. *****

Fresh Breath with Thera Breath - #giveaway

Okay, let me start this post by saying that I do not think that I have bad breath.
Now that I have cleared this up...
I will admit that when I am sick, I am always wanting to brush my teeth and rinse my mouth, as I know my breath isn't awesome then!

I saw TheraBreath and I wanted to try it out.
Why?
Well, to be honest...
To see how it worked and to see if it would help me during the cooler months when I get sore throats, that lead me to dry mouth and yes, bad breath!
I will say, I am not a huge fan of the toothpaste.
I know, it is a mental thing, but I love the minty flavor of toothpaste.
I have always been that way and this doesn't have it.
No, it isn't a nasty flavor, to tell you the truth, there is really no flavor.
I brush and brush...
Then, I move to the rinse.
I do like it.
It doesn't have an overpowering flavor, but it does have a hint.
The rinse doesn't burn, nor does it cool..
It is just right.
I have enjoyed that!
My favorite of the products that I was sent for review?
The throat lozenges!
It says mint and citrus ... but I only taste the mint!
I tell you one thing, it says the mint/citrus causes your mouth to salivate...
They were not joking!
It doesn't take long till you feel that water in there!
No dry mouth here!

The lozenges would be great for on the go.
Like throughout the day, pop one in for fresh breath!

If you have braces, or know someone that does...
This would be great for them.
The Internet says that canker sores can be caused by braces (and other reasons... ) and therabreath works perfectly for canker sores!
Therabreath is all natural, sugar free and vegan, so it really is for everyone!

One lucky winner is going to win:
1 Tube of Therabreath Toothpaste
and
1 bottle of Therabreath Rinse

Mandatory Entry:
Visit Therabreath and tell me another product you would like to try.

#HolidayGiftGuide - Curious Critters Book

Broxton (and Mommy) have a new book we love!!!
We just received Curious Critters by David Fitzsimmons for review and Broxton was quick to want to read it.

Have you heard of Curious Critters?
It is a children's book that has great photography throughout it...
Of, you guessed it... Critters!

Maybe it was the HUGE FROG on the cover, I don't know...
We sat in the chair and read the book.
He laughed at the pictures, as mommy made some interesting sounds when we saw a few of them!
This book is awesome!

I for one love the photography.
It is simple.
David Fitzsimmons takes pictures of these critters...
White background. Up close and personal.
Then, each page has the picture of the critter and a little paragraph about them.
From their color to their name, all very interesting and quite funny.
This would be AN AWESOME book for any nature lover.
Let me change this..
This would be an AWESOME book for anyone.
I hate bugs and critters, but I loved this book.

Broxton did as well.
As soon as we were finished reading it, he immediately wanted to read it with Marc..
So, they did!!!

I really hope another volume comes out soon, as this really is wonderful!!!
Makes a great gift!!!
Also, if you order one, you can email David for a personalized dedication!!!

Summary:

In his children's picture book CURIOUS CRITTERS (November 2011, Wild Iris Publishing, hardcover, ages 4-8) photographer David FitzSimmons turns his camera on a variety of animals common throughout North America. CURIOUS CRITTERS presents stunning images of everyday animals, including a red flat bark beetle, an Eastern spiny softshell turtle, a spotted salamander, and many other intriguing creatures. Each Curious Critter is photographed against a white backdrop, showcasing the animals' colors, textures, and shapes with precision and clarity. Along with each photo is a vignette, told from the critter's perspective, that educates and entertains. For example, a bush katydid explains her bubblegum-pink color, a poetic opossum opines upon her often-shortened name, and a far-from-modest black swallowtail butterfly lets readers in on her secret for avoiding predators.

When parents read CURIOUS CRITTERS with their kids not only will they have fun reading, but they also inspire in them a life-long interest in nature. Kids will want to swap TV and video games for a trips to the park or more time in the backyard. So, get ready to have a budding biologist on your hands!

Just some of what kids will learn:

  • What turtles and humans have in common
  • Why black swallowtail butterflies impersonates their toxic cousins
  • How Eastern box turtles can live longer than humans (over 150 years!)
  • If squirrels can fly
  • Why crayfish grow new legs
  • How bats find food
  • Why frogs sing
  • How jumping spiders jump and why they never have to look over their shoulders.

Follow Curious Critters on Facebook.

W/W - Making Memories

I love my family.
Although I do not see them often, I love them, I really do!

We went home a couple weeks ago since Marc had drill.
My grandparents came over to visit and see how much Broxton had grown.
We had discussed Broxton, Marc and my Grandaddy going fishing one day, but we can't do it yet...
So, I jokingly told my mom we should have a little play fish area for Grandaddy and Broxton to fish.

My mom was on a mission!
She found a little fishing game, remember them?
Well, we set it up and it was kinda hard!
Needless to say, Grandaddy gave up on it pretty early..

BUT - My Mema played and boy, she laughed!
Not sure who had more fun..
Broxton or Mema...

1. Cut out collar ribbing and remove

2. Make a V shaped cut in center front of the collar

3. If using a blue jacket, cut out the sleeves to turn it into a vest

4. Use the yellow duct tape to cover the buttons and attach to vest

5. Cut a small square of the orange fabric and glue it on the shorts

6. Using a needle with a big eye, thread the brown yarn. Stitch a few lines around the orange patch

7. Add yellow duct tape straps on the shoes

Putting it all together:

1. Fold blue fabric in half to form a triangle. Wrap turban style around head, leaving long tails in the back

2. Wear T-shirt un-tucked

3. Add vest and shoes

4. Don’t forget to add Cubby’s map in the back pocket. A rolled up newspaper will do the trick. Yo Ho Let's Go!

Hope this helps you enjoy Halloween!!!!
