I Can See Just Fine

We recently were sent a book from Abrams Appleseed and as soon as I started reading it, Broxton and I were cracking up turning the pages.  The book that had us laughing?
I Can See Just Fine by Eric Barclay.

It is a great book to discuss with kids the importance of eye sight... and it gives a great way to talk about kids that need / wear glasses.  The thing that had us laughing were the eyes in the picture of her in music class... It was just too funny...
Broxton and I loved flipping through the book, noticing all of the things that Paige missed because of her poor vision.  I know that new things and going to see an eye doctor can be scary, so this was great to share with a little one beforehand, so they know what to expect!

We even were able to include a counting lesson when Paige went to get glasses!

About the book
Paige is just like every other kid. She goes to school. She practices her violin. She plays outside. The only problem is, she cannot quite see the chalkboard, her sheet music, or anything else! Despite Paige’s repeated refrain of “I can see just fine,” the comical illustrations portray a different story. Paige’s parents decide it’s time for her to visit the eye doctor, despite her protests. But Paige’s stubbornness quickly dissolves as she braves an enthralling eye checkup, enjoys a playful frame selection, and, most importantly, ends up with perfect eyesight! Barclay successfully depicts a very real and relevant issue with lightheartedness and gentle humor. Young readers will relate to Paige’s journey and celebrate her triumph of seeing clearly in the end.

Broxton and I enjoyed watching Paige as she went through daily events, not really knowing that she had an eye sight problem... As I said, it was nice seeing her at the doctor and them talking about the machine that they were going to use to look at her eyes... Even going to the eye glass store was fun for us and I am sure it will be for you as you read as well!

Pleased To Meet You

Having worked with this PR company in the past, I thought that this was a great CD to share with you!!!  I was not compensated for posting this.

This sounds like a pretty neat CD to add to your collection!

Pleased To Meet You reflects Key Wilde and Mr Clarke’s musical versatility, which can skillfully move from rockers like the title track and “Bigga Bagga” to quieter tunes like the bluegrassy “Chuckers” and the ukulele lullaby (tinged with toy piano), “Falling Star.” Most of the songs on Pleased To Meet You are originals, the result of the duo’s offbeat and wide-ranging musical sensibilities. The “Railroad Medley” is a lively arrangement of well-loved train songs, and “Candyman” is a sweetly acoustic and child-friendly version of the Reverend Gary Davis blues classic. “Eggplant Man” exemplifies the Key Wilde and Mr Clarke sensibility, using creative rhyming and word play to tell the story about a “lumpy grumpy” gardener trying to stop the wily John the Rabbit from munching away at his vegetables. Each song evokes vibrant imagery, and the CD packaging featuring Wilde’s illustrations helps tell each little musical tale.

Key Wilde and Mr Clarke are known for their wildly imaginative, whimsically narrative songwriting and distinctive harmonic sound. Their 2009 release Rise and Shine won a Parents’ Choice GOLD Award, and their EPs Hey, Pepito! and Happy Holidays attracted national acclaim and radio play. Their kid-friendly and sophistically funny songs get regular rotation on SiriusXM’s Kids Place Live and WXPN FM’s Kids Corner radio, among many other shows nationwide.
At theaters including Symphony Space to World Café Live and at more informal venues including Kindiefest and the NYC summer parks series, the dynamic duo delivers their whimsical story-songs with involving, visually dynamic performances.
Critics love their “farm-funk sound, as fresh as it is entertaining” (Cookie magazine) whose music “will lift kids’ spirits in the morning, or anytime” (Parenting magazine). As Dadnabbit /Popdose notes,“Key Wilde and Mr. Clarke don’t pander with their arrangements, which are stripped-down,folk-flavored, and often totally rockin’ in the bargain — not to mention catchy, too.” And Parents’ Choice simply says that the duo create “clever, laugh-out-loud lyrics, from musicians who clearly enjoy their work.”
The duo began their musical collaboration in the 1990s in New York, honing their antifolk repertoire and tight harmonies. Wilde, now the father of two children, grew up in Texas and has built a reputation not only for his music but also for his illustrations, which have appeared in newspapers, magazines, Avanti greeting cards and children’s books. Mr Clarke was born in the U.K., grew up in France and has lived in New York since the 1980s. Currently a high school science and special education teacher, he hones his performance skills before the toughest audience on the planet—adolescents—by blowing things up in front of the classroom. “It does get their attention,” he quips.

Happy Birthday To Me... W/W

Well, my birthday was a couple weeks ago and I was treated to a nice little mini vacation with Broxton to Biloxi.  It was a great time and we have done this before, I guess we could somewhat call it a tradition now, but I don't know how much longer we will do this, with his being ready for "big kid school" next year...
Anyways, we stay at the Hard Rock and I know Broxton and I both love it...
As soon as you walk in, the bed calls for you to take a nap, or at least lay down and relax!!!

One of the highlights for us is the first morning there...
We normally order room service and enjoy it sitting on the floor, looking out the window at the pool down below.  (Yes, we request a pool view to add to this as it really is a great time for the two of us...)

Of course, with a pool view, we can see when it is open and busy and we love going down there... If you look towards the left of the water, you can see it is like a lighter shade... that is actually the "beach" built into the pool... It allows for the little ones to run through the water, just like they would if they were at the beach.

The final reason that Broxton loves the Hard Rock?  Their showers!  It has 3 heads in there... with a glass door.  He loves getting in there and we have to constantly turn the shower settings for him to have a great time....

Look at that face!!!!!!!  I think he had a great time with me!!!
He did tell me "Happy Birthday" about 5 million times on the actual day of my birthday... and we did have to stop for Ice Cream!  (If you want Ice Cream, head to Scoops at the Beau Rivage... it is next to the Hard Rock and they make the Ice Cream there.  Delicious!!!)

Happy Wednesday!!!!!!!!!!

Happy Healthy Baby Series - Reach & Eat #DigIntoReading

FTC Compliant Review Policy:

I told you I would be back with the other 2 books that Elizabeth Verdick has released in her Happy Healthy Baby Series!  Books 3 and 4 are Reach and Eat!  Right now, you can purchase the first 4 books in the series for only $25.16.  I am not sure how long that is going to last... so head on over and grab it now!)

Wiggly baby on the floor. What is baby reaching for? Celebrate the many ways that babies reach out to discover and learn about the world around them. With lively rhyming text and vivid photos of babies in action, this book is sure to engage babies and grown-ups alike. A great baby board book for floortime or anytime!
Every day, in every way, babies eat. From bottles and breasts, trays and bowls. With fingers and with spoons. Join these babies as they explore and enjoy the many foods that help them grow healthy and strong.Hungry baby, food’s so yummy. Look at how it fills your tummy.Bouncy rhythms and bright photos and illustrations are sure to capture baby’s attention

In Reach - book number 3, I was crossing my fingers for a picture that I think always makes me smile... When the little one find their toes!  Of course, as I turned the page "What is baby reaching for?" and I saw it... that adorable picture of feet in hands... So sweet!

In Eat - book number 4, I knew there was going to be a messy face!  I love looking back on those photos with Broxton... so I of course was smiling... I loved how Elizabeth covered both breastfeeding and bottlefeeding!

As with all of the books by Elizabeth Verdick, the last two pages include a Parents / Care Provider section with tid bits of information...  These books are great for little ones, as they are small board books (around 5x5)    the black and white photos contrasting with the sweetly illustrated opposite pages will be sure to grab the attention of all ages.
I think that this would also be great to give to early reader siblings)  that way, they can bond over reading a book to their baby brother / sister... but can also work on their reading with the simple text.

Smooth Shaving - @SomersetsShave

I have to start by saying that I love how silly Marc can be when he knows I am taking pictures for the blog... Like, seriously... He makes the faces that he never does in day to day life... For example.. I needed  / wanted pictures to show this new product that we were sent (that he had been going on and on about since it's arrival)  I asked him to wait a few days and then shave, so I could photograph him...
Here he is giving me this look for the first photo:

Love that look!!!  What would you call it?
With Marc being military, you know that means he needs to be clean shaven and ready... Well, he waited a few days to shave, just so we could see this product in action...
Check out all that hair!!!
We were sent the Grooming Selection from Somersets...
Somersets Grooming for Men provides everything a man needs to care for his face! Treat the guys (and their skin) to Somersets Shaving Oils, Shaving Gels, and Pre- & After- Shave products. Unlike chemical foams and soaps, Somersets products are formulated with a proprietary blend of organic essential oils such as Lavender, Tea Tree and Rosemary. Somersets products do not contain any chemicals that can harm the skin or the environment.

Marc and I were a bit skeptical about using just a little of the oil to shave...
So... With the Somersets line, you use just a little oil and supposedly you can shave... With no issues...

Marc needed to shave his face (and his head)
So, when the product arrived, Marc was quick to use it..
I was gone when he shaved.... but you better believe that when I got home, he went on and on about how impressed he was with the surprise I had waiting on him..
I knew he was excited, but I was really excited when I was able to use the Women's Shave Oils!!!
The thing I loved?  You just use a couple drops of the oil to prepare your skin... Then, just shave like normal..  After we were done shaving, it was amazing.. Your skin feels great and we did not even need any lotion to moisturize afterwards!

Marc normally doesn't use aftershave or anything like that.. He normally just shaves (with lotion) and then uses the same lotion to moisturize when he is done...  Now, with the Somersets line, he really loves to actually take care of himself and use the pre-treatment, the oils and then the after treatments!!!  He doesn't do it all the time, but when he has time, he does like the "pampering" like everyone else does!
I love that the oil comes in a tiny bottle (think of a nail polish bottle)  It is small, takes up hardly no room...
Wow... Impressive!
This is also great not only for the house, but also think about it...
Taking up less room when travelling?  Can't be beat!
( I was also thinking about this being a great product for him, if he ever deploys again... It is small to take up less room in his luggage ... but also for when I would mail it to him... small means less room in the care package... but also lighter weight!!!
If you shave... check it out... They have for both men and women!!!

Be sure to follow Somersets Shaving Oil on Facebook and Twitter.

We have loved working with Free Spirit Publishing and with that, we have several books by Elizabeth Verdick...  (Toddler Tools and Best Behavior Series)  Well, Elizabeth has done it again!!!  She has recently released The Happy Healthy Baby Series!!
(The current deal is to buy all 4 books for $25.16.  I am not sure how long this will last, so you might want to grab them now for a baby gift down the road!)

Up first?
Books 1 & 2 : Move and Cuddle.

Amazing babies are on the move in this lively board book that celebrates all the joyful ways babies propel themselves and interact with the world. Push, baby, push! Look how strong you are. Climb, baby, climb! You are going far. Babies, parents, and care providers will all enjoy this bouncy, spirited book.

With soothing photographs and gentle, rhythmic language, this book depicts the many loving connections that come from touch. Rock, baby, rock. Tender as can be. Snuggle, baby, snuggle. Rest your head on me.Babies and grown-ups will love the warm-and-cozy images of babies snuggling up to blankets, stuffed animals, pets, and people.

Both of these books are just adorable.
With Move, it goes through the different movements of the little ones... From scooting to climbing... I love the way Elizabeth decided to go with this book... On each two page spread, you have a pattern. One page is an illustrated colorful page with the simple text: (Example: Push, Baby, Push!)  But then the opposite page is an ABSOLUTELY Adorable black and white photo of a sweet little baby.

In Cuddle, we are greeted again with these cute babies...
One page with simple text with colorful background / illustration... and the other with a sweet black and white photo.  Check out the photo on "Smooch, Baby, Smooch"  It doesn't get much sweeter, does it?

At the end of the book, as with all of her books, she has a Parent / Care Provider section with tips to help with the little one.   I think that this would be a great gift to give a mommy to be...This would be great for their older siblings to read to them and see how they can interact.  This would also make great books to go in pediatrician offices, if you ask me!!!
Stay tuned for books 3 and 4 to be posted soon!!!

Think Outside The Box- Beating the Lunch Box Blues

The product(s) featured in this review were provided free of cost to me by the manufacturer or representing PR agency for the sole purpose of product testing. Opinions expressed are my own and are NOT influenced by monetary compensation.

I was excited to find out that Beating the Lunch Box Blues by J. M. Hirsch would be headed my way... It is so hard to pack lunch for Broxton... I have decided that my teenage years are already coming back to get me now... If I ask him what he wants, he tells me crazy things... Like he wants candy and chips.  Now, we all know that is not an option, so then I tell him we will do apples and a sandwich... No matter what I pack, most times, that same lunch comes back home.  I hate that, but I do tell him what I am packing and even get his opinion...
The other day, he was so excited, he wanted me to pack him a sandwich in the shape of a butterfly, so I did... but you better believe it that butterfly was still in his bag after I picked him up...   With all of that, I was so excited to see if we might have help on the way...

This book is awesome, but I found it more appetizing for me than for Broxton.
The best part?  There are 162 lunches in this book, as well as 30 dinners!!!
Yep!!  J.M. Hirsch shows us how to take leftovers and make delicious meals for lunch the next day!!!  I am honestly just excited to try this for us as a family.
I did get a few ideas from here to try for Broxton, but who knows?  I am thinking it is just a phase he is going through right now!

For Broxton-
Maybe trying a couple different types of crackers...
Or making mini-quiches.

For those with peanut free zones (Broxton's school is one) they even have a list of several different spreads instead of your basic PB&J... I would still make sure to check with your school before sending in just to be safe...and to make sure they knew what you sent in, since it does look the same.

For Marc's lunch... (hey, I have to eat as well... and these look so tasty!)
One option was dinner of Red Beans and Rice... then lunch the next day could be taking leftover RB&R and making croquettes (I NEVER would have thought of that)
Another one?  A salad version for Muffuletta!

I was really impressed with the different meal ideas throughout the book.
Not to mention, they had a TON of pictures that made my mouth water, just looking at it!!!
No worries to vegetarians, there was a section in there for that (or maybe you just do a meatless Monday?)
Either way... this book looked to be full of great inspiration...
I will note that I felt there were plenty of idea's for Asian dishes, so if you are not a big fan of Asian meals, you might want to flip through the book before you purchase. (Or buy it and share with a friend.)

I think that this would be a great book to have to pull idea's from... but also a great gift for those that take their lunch to work (No doubt, a great back to school teacher gift idea!)

If you have been around lately, you know that I have been kind of sick...
I am slowly feeling better, although it was a rough couple days to start with.

You want to know something funny?  We were sent some of the Boogie Wipes for review.
I had all plans to send some in for Broxton's class... and then to keep some in our car, since Broxton had been having a bit of a runny nose.  Well, of course, I noticed that I was using them more than he was, so they never made it to his class... they were being used here!!!
Wow, I love them... It cleans my nose... and it doesn't hurt when I am blowing and wiping millions of times a day.  (Okay, millions might be one or two more than what I really did, but it was quite a few times!)

Right now, Toys R' Us has a promotion (hurry...ends the 5th)
Buy 2, Get 1 Free on the Boogie Wipes.
These Boogie Wipes are available in three scents: grape, fresh or unscented.

Don't worry though...
I get to hold a great giveaway for one lucky reader!!!
I was sent an assortment of products... and one of you will win a prize pack with similar items.

Towel Shorts Draw Attention!!! @KikisNation

The product(s) featured in this review were provided free of cost to me by the manufacturer or representing PR agency for the sole purpose of product testing. Opinions expressed are my own and are NOT influenced by monetary compensation.

We were lucky enough to have a pair of Kiki's Nations Towel Shorts sent for us to check out...  I have never seen a pair before, so I was a bit curious as to how they would look, fit and feel... When they arrived, Broxton was pretty excited to put them on!  I tell ya, this kid will try most things out for me... For the most part!

I requested the Red Hibiscus Jammers, as the red, white and blue colors were just really calling me (Imagine that!)  They arrived and I was in love!
We ordered the 4T, but looking back, I wish I had requested the 5T as he is growing so fast and might not be able to wear these next year...

We actually took them to the pool with us the other day..
After Broxton was finished swimming, I was able to get him to dry off and just put these on...  He loved them and went on and on about how comfortable he was in them.

The awesome part?  We were at a friends house, so when we went inside, the friend (A GUY, who is not one to notice things) was spot on in mentioning something about how they were so cool looking!  I told him he needed to go ahead and order a pair for both of his boys and while he was at it, he could grab a pair for himself!!!

I love that they are shorts... made out of towels... and they went a step further and included a pocket made out of the printed fabric to go on the solid colored leg!
I just think little touches like that make it so much more and we are enjoying them here...
I guess they are really, really comfortable... since Broxton has even asked me to let him sleep in them!!!  I can see people wearing these all the time... especially after the pool or a shower!!!   This would also be great for cruises... (You could always pack a cruise ticket with this for a great way to surprise someone!)

If you are looking for a great looking and comfortable product, head on over to Kiki's Nation to see what all is available.  Don't worry... they have more than just shorts...  They also have pants, skirts and even bags!!!

Make sure to follow them on Facebook and Twitter.

Disney Planes and Disney Cars - Start Stocking Up Now !!! #WorldOfPlanes #shop #Cbias

I am a member of the Collective Bias Social Fabric Community. This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Collective Bias and their client.

If you remember, we went to see Disney Planes the Movie and Broxton fell in love.  I did too, as the movie was so cute!!!  During the movie, Broxton mentioned a couple times about how he really wanted he planes toys, so I was excited to see that they are now available at Walmart!
Luckily for me, I am a part of the Collective Bias Shop, so I was able to go and purchase a few for our house!!!   (I would love to have you stop over to my Google + album to see how that shopping trip went! ) Of course, I had to get the Disney Planes Dusty, but that is put up for Christmas!

I had a hey day there shopping... Hope you saw the fun with that on my google + album.    I came home and immediately hid the different toys that I bought... In my mind, it is NEVER too early to start stocking for Christmas gifts!!  I know that planes and cars are always going to be a big one around here, so I love knowing I have a few things up my sleeves!!!

As soon as Broxton got home from school, I had him get ready to check out the gift I had for him. He had NO CLUE what I had purchased, as I had not mentioned it to him at all...  As soon as he saw the plane, he was so excited!!!

I will be honest here, I wanted to give him all of them, as I know he is going to be so excited... But, at the same time... the kid doesn't need any more toys... especially just on a random day of the week!  I used this as sort of a back to school treat...   He was so excited to see that I had chosen to surprise him with Bravo!  He loved Bravo (Hello!!! It is an ARMY PLANE MOM!!!!)  and he also loved El Chupacabra!! You might want to know why I wanted to give him this one...  Well, this particular plane is a Pull and Fly plane. so I wanted to see what it was all about..  I am all about him having planes, but between him, his daddy and the brothers, I really don't want all sorts of planes flying around my house!  This plane is great!  You place it on a hard surface, then you pull it back and let it go...  ZOOM!!!  It speeds off and the flames coming out of the back spin around simulating the jet flames flaring!

Right now, Broxton likes playing with it all over the place and for the first couple days, it was with him 24/7.  At first, I thought it might be a problem, since his teacher has said NO TOYS except for show and tell day... But luckily, he knew to leave it home...

Now, I know he is dreaming about more... He did point out the back of the packaging... He had to tell me that there were other planes and that he needed them to add to his collection.

The thing that makes me smile?  Knowing that Christmas morning, there will be more gifts of the from Disney  Planes... and Disney Pixar Cars too...  While shopping for the planes toys, I saw a couple more of the Cars characters that he doesn't have yet... You know I had to snag them up for him!!!
Let me tell you what I have planned for this year...

I plan on having several Disney Planes and Disney Pixar Cars gifts wrapped under the tree... But the kicker?  Broxton leaves Santa a plate of cookies... I am going to see if Santa will leave Broxton a note (held down with one of the Disney Pixar Cars) to tell him to go look IN the tree... and have a couple of the Disney Planes characters landed throughout the branches!  That way, he gets to have even more fun looking to see where they are!!!
Carrier Playset MSRP -$29.99
Available at Walmart:
I did smarten up this time around... I knew that Broxton loved the scene of the military planes.. so that would be something he would enjoy playing...  Hey, our blood runs red, white and blue!  As soon as I saw this, I knew that this would not only make HIM happy to play with... It also doubles as storage for up to 6 of the diecast planes!  Smart thinking for me!!!
I bought a couple of them now, but I think I will be looking to get a couple more... These would also make great stocking stuffers!
A new to me Cars Product.  Monster Truck + cars character?  FUN FUN FUN
I am just so excited to see how he reacts to his gifts... I already know a couple gift idea's that I have for any birthday parties that we are invited too..  The great thing about Planes the Movie?  They have girl characters!!!  We have really had a blast playing with Bravo and like I said, I can not wait until he gets to open up a few more this year!!
Make sure you head on over to Walmart to see what all they have...
I am really thinking that we will have the whole collection sooner rather than later!!

Make sure you stay up to date and follow on Facebook and Twitter.

While everyone was getting ready for Football Season to start (okay, I was too.. but not as much as the past... remember, I am still sick!)  and Broxton was busy watching Read Along DVD's... I was quietly preparing to enjoy seeing Jana Kramer break out from her One Tree Hill image in my mind to see how she would handle the big screen...

Yep, I was sent the Heart of the Country DVD and I was excited to see it... Not to mention, I love her voice, so I knew I was going to get to enjoy her singing!!!!
Sure as to be expected, the movie started with her singing and I was smiling all ready!

I will admit, I have decided to try and forget what all the different movies are about, that way when I watch them, I have no expectation and can truly enjoy it... Have you ever built up so much excitement due to the previews to only get there and be like "what the what? that was NOTHING like what I thought it was going to be...  disappointed!"

I have learned if you go in just knowing "that sounded pretty good"  you are sometimes able to enjoy it more.. At least that is how I have been thinking lately.

So... I knew the movie had Jana in it and as I mentioned, loved her in One Tree Hill...  (Side note, a friend of mine had a huge celeb crush on her... might need to make sure he knows she has a movie out now!)    The movie also had the guy from Major Dad... so I was ready...

Synopsis:Based on the novel by Rene Gutteridge and John Ward, Heart of the Country is a love story starring country music singer Jana Kramer (“One Tree Hill”), Randy Wayne (“True Blood”), and Gerald McRaney (“Major Dad”). Faith (Kramer) and Luke (Wayne) have it all. Faith is a beautiful singer and Luke is an up-and- coming businessman. When their life together is shattered and she is forced to return home to the family she turned her back on years ago she must find the strength to love again. Watch Jana Kramer in her first leading movie role in the year's most inspirational and romantic movie event ...

I really enjoyed the movie, but I was a bit confused for a minute... I did not know what was going on and if I had missed something or not...   I believe it was done that way to keep you hanging on, so you watched more and more and it did make sense... Although I still have a couple questions that did not seem to be answered to me... but then again, I might have just missed it...
I thought at first when they started doing the flashback scenes that I was going to totally be over it.. but they did not use many and the ones they did were powerful and for a reason, so I actually enjoyed them!
Marc actually joined me a little after it started and watched it, (normally he goes on to other things when I am watching a movie I did not ask him to watch with me, so I was kind of shocked!)  I think this was a great movie and for sure a great romantic movie to watch!!!
I thought Jana Kramer did a great job and loved hearing her singing the soundtrack!
