When Broxton had "X week" at school, I could not figure out WHAT we would be able to send in for show and tell that day...Until we checked out his ever growing  library, and we both spotted his latest additions, Marvel X-Men!  These are perfect for those wanting to learn about X-Men... (like moms!) and awesome for kids that are learning to love these super heroes more and more!

Professor Charles Xavier has always been different.  Charles is a mutant, and possesses miraculous powers of mind control.  But Charles has a dream for humans and mutants to live together in peace.  And so he has formed the X-Men, an extraordinary band of men and women including Cyclops, Wolverine, and Storm, to rid the world of violence against man or mutant.

The Marvel titles in Disney’s World of Reading line are designed to offer reluctant readers, specifically boys, books that they’ll want to read by featuring characters they love.
The series is broken into three levels that invoke the rigorous training courses that their favorite Marvel heroes must engage in to perfect their superpowers.
In reading this series, boys will perfect their own power to read.  In this 48-page Level 3 Reader, the X-Men must band together with their future selves in order to save the world!

Having a kid in sports, you know you will have "snack duty" at some point or another if they are on any teams... It is always hard for me, as kids can be really honest in their likes and dislikes!  Not only that, but as a parent, you want to make sure that you are not just loading them full of sugary snacks.
Since Broxton was on baseball this year, I wanted to make sure to do something fun for the kids... I had a bunch of different trinkets through my blogging over the years and then it hit me... Why not see about working together with Pirate Booty again??   I was so happy when I got the email saying we would be working again... I knew Broxton enjoyed the yummy puffed corn baked with flavor, and I loved that it wasn't a fried option that would leave greasy tummies!
As I mentioned, I made them little bags that contained their juice, their pirate booty and then a couple odds and ends trinkets...   The kids were dying to see what was in the bags and when I said "Pirate Booty" they all busted out laughing saying that I was not supposed to say that word!  Ha!!! We ended up having a discussion about "booty" from Pirates meant their treasure!   The kids went home with their treats and that was that...

Then--- WE MADE IT TO THE PLAYOFFS!!!!
(That meant more snack times and I knew I had extra Pirates Booty!)  I loaded up a bag and took it back to the field to see if any kids wanted them...    I wasn't on "snack duty" but just sat the bag to the side and told the kids they could grab a bag if they wanted them...

Then, my heart smiled so big!  The kids were THRILLED about the Pirates Booty and the parents were all having to ask "Where can you find this?!  The kids LOVE IT!"   I was able to tell them that for us, it was to be found at Publix... If you need to know where you can grab some...  Just click their store locator to find out.   The fact that the kids were thrilled?  That means they REALLY liked it - (Think Sally Fields when she said "YOU LIKE ME!" That sort of excitement!)

The best part?  Kids (and adults) of all ages have been seen munching on these and we all love them!  If you have any kids events where you might need to bring snacks, keep Pirate Booty in mind...  Also - this would be great for picnics, road trips, pool parties and more!
This summer when you are out and about, keep Pirates Booty near!!!!

Have you heard of the books featuring Baby Owl? I hate to admit it, but I had never heard of them (They started in 2005)  until now.... But I tell you, Jonathan Allen is pretty creative at showing a day in my life with Broxton... but with using a "cute" baby owl!

In "I'm not CUTE!"  we meet baby owl that decides to go and explore the woods!  All of the animals see him and comment on him being cute -- but baby owl is not  fan... He is "a huge and scary hunting machine with great big soft and silent wings."
Grab the book to see what all happens, especially when he tells his mama about his unhappiness in their description of him!  LOVE IT!!!!
To be honest, now that I have read this one, I really want to read the other Baby Owl stories!  They include "I'm not Reading!" , "I'm not Sleepy!" and "I'm not Ready!"
I can not wait to see what happens in those books!

SYNOPSIS:
(Recommended age: 3-5)
Welcome back, Baby Owl! With visions of himself as a “huge, scary, sleek, sharp-eyed hunting machine,” the adorable little creature goes out for a walk in the woods. But every animal he meets thinks he's so cute, fluffy, and huggable! Poor Baby Owl. "I'm not cute!' he shouts. Then Mom comes along—and she agrees, before coming up with the perfect solution. It's a real hoot that every kid will relate to.

Flip Flops / Sandals have not been my friend for pretty much my whole life.  I hate admitting that, but I never even had a pedicure until I was in my 20's.  I know, that is crazy... but being honest here.  I have a thing about feet.  I HATE THEM... and in hating them, I was not about to show mine to other people... Until I got the first pedicure... Then, I realized I love how my feet feel afterwards... Except the fact that I can only wear my sandals for like a day before my feet hurt and sneakers go back on...

Oh, did I mention that I am flat footed like no other?  Yep, so whenever I wear sandals, after just a bit, I am over it... and back to sneakers since they offer support to my arches.
Imagine my excitement when I not only learned about Vionic shoes with Orthaheel Technology but that I would be getting a pair for review!

I was able to review the Bella Sandal:
Adorned with a feminine bow that’s trimmed with the Vionic “V” logo, this toe-post style is the perfect sandal to slip on this Spring.
  • Manmade upper with microfiber-covered footbed.
  • Lightweight, flexible EVA midsole absorbs shock, reducing stress on feet, ankles, and knees.
  • Durable rubber outsole with a patterned tread provides traction on a variety of surfaces.
  • Our innovative podiatrist-designed Orthaheel Technology provides superior orthotic support, relief and stability which helps realign the feet back to their natural position.
  • Research supports Orthaheel Technology’s success in reducing over-pronation, which can help relieve associated common aches and pains, such as heel pain (plantar fasciitis), knee pain and lower back pain.
  • Recommended by renowned Dr. Andrew Weil.
  • Received APMA Seal of Acceptance
Now, I have to be clear here... I am pretty much a penny pincher, so I am not totally sure that I would be able to justify purchasing these shoes for $74.95 ( I did recently buy Marc a pair of sandals and spent a whopping $8 on them, so you see what I mean?)  I will say that having worn these basically every single day since they showed up, I am totally in love with them.
They are so comfortable that I have worn them everywhere we went - including pretty much all of Broxton's baseball games!  I point this out since I do NOT like being hot... and wearing sandals instead of sneakers allowed me to dress more for the weather.  I was surprised at how comfortable they were, while I had them on.. and when I took them off, I did not have aches in my heel and knees like I normally do when wearing sandals or being barefoot.
Also- wearing these sandals allowed me to show my "team spirit" for his baseball team!  I was able to paint my toe nails "purple and gold" for the LSU Tigers!
Finally, the style of these shoes was casual enough that I wore them out and about to run errands and to support Broxton's team... but I also threw them on and wore them to church as well.  I felt that the bow gave them that extra "oomph" to be dressy/casual all in one!

Vionic is running a #SoleStory Campaign where we get to "share why wearing stylish yet healthy and supportive shoes can enhance life."

I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IF YOU CLICK AND VOTE ON MY #SOLESTORY.
MAKE SURE YOU HIT THE "VOTE" BUTTON, NOT JUST THE LIKE ONE.

THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR VOTING FOR ME!!!!

Here is my reason:
For me, Vionic Shoes allows me the opportunity to be a key part in the daily events of my sons active life.  Instead of sitting around complaining about the aches and pains of my heels and knees, I can now continue cheering him on from the sidelines!

I have been very impressed and have had nothing but wonderful things to say about them. My mom actually had to try them on the last time I saw her...  I was lucky she has smaller feet, as she was trying to take them with her, although they were way too big for her!

As I have mentioned before, living in Atlanta is full of many great opportunities! In the years before Broxton, I always heard of the events - mostly after the fact, but either way, I was never able to go, since I was always working... But - now that we are able to go to things, I never really know what is going on that I want to go to the most...
Seriously, it seems like there is ALWAYS a festival, convention, exhibit or SOMETHING going on SOMEWHERE and of course, I would love to do it all...  But, we all know that finances and time just don't allow for that.  So, we have to weigh things out and see what is most likely to be the most fun for us...

I saw that Atlanta Comic Con was headed our way, but I was not really sure the details on it...
Except that it sounded pretty cool and I thought that Broxton and I would pretty much be guaranteed to have a great time...  That being said - we were given the chance to go and check it out ...
Yes!  You read that right!   I will be getting to surprise Broxton with a trip to Comic Con Atlanta!
Between the people watching and seeing his expression... I can not wait!!!

I am just getting into the Star Wars / gaming and all of that stuff...  So, this will be an adventure for us both! I will get to share my review for you guys ( there are Comic Cons headed to Philadelphia, San Antonio, Portland and More!)  so make sure you come back to see what we thought of our experience.  Head over to check out their site to see if Comic Con is headed to you!!!!

10 Things We Can Teach Our Children to Prevent Dog Bites

***  I was not compensated for this post.  With all the recent videos of dogs biting - there needs to be a bit of teaching from the adults in a kids life as well.  I thought this was a great list and I wanted to share.

May 18-24 is National Dog Bite Prevention Week and the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA)has great ways to help parents and their children understand how they can prevent dog bites, so you can help your kids - and dogs-stay safe and happy!

10 Things We Can Teach Our Children to Prevent Dog Bites

  1. Avoid dogs you don't know. If you see an unknown dog wandering loose and unsupervised, avoid the dog.
  2. Ask before petting!  When the owner is with their dog, always ask the owner for permission to pet their pup. Even if it's a dog you know, asking first can help prevent sudden movements that may startle the dog.
  3. When confronted, don't panic. If a dog confronts you, walk confidently and quietly away. If a dog goes after you, stay calm and stand still, keeping hands low and clasped in front of you. It's important to take a defensive position, so the dog won't think you are trying to harm him.
  4. Don't make it worse. Avoid escalating the situation by yelling, running, hitting or making sudden movements towards the dog. All of these actions will make the dog feel threatened and can make the dog more aggressive.
  5. Let sleeping dogs lie. When a dog is sleeping or eating, leave the dog alone.
  6. Never tease dogs. Don't take their toys, food or treats, and never pretend to hit or kick them. This could create distrust in the dog, and make him or her more aggressive.
  7. Playtime has a beginning and end. A dog has to want to play, but when the dog leaves that's your cue that playtime is over. The dog will come back for more play if he feels like it.
  8. Never pull a dog's ears or tail. Pain makes a dog feel like he is in danger and he could respond by biting.
  9. Dogs aren't toys. Never climb on or try to ride dogs. Not only could this scare or anger the dog, but it could also injure the dog if he cannot support the weight or tries to get away.
  10. Dog crates are safe spaces. Don't bother a dog when he is in his crate. Dogs need a comfortable, safe place where the child never goes. Remember, dogs need alone time too!

Tooth and Claw - Book Review #ReadingISFun

Just the other day, Broxton said "Mom, I love reading... It is so much fun!"  That right there, my friends... That right there --- MELTED this mama's heart!   Talk about music to my ears!!!!!
We have been so fortunate that we have been able to read and explore so many types of books and go on so many different adventures!  The latest book for us?  Tooth and Claw by Jim Arnosky.  To be honest, this is not a typical book I would have grabbed at the library, but we did learn so much about the animals inside!

For example:  Did you know that a Jaguar is the largest cat in the Western Hemisphere?
Als0 - the name jaguar comes from a South American word that means "kills in a single bound."

Table of Contents: Introduction
A Pride of Lions
African Lion
Cheetah
African Leopard
American Lion
Jaguar
Grizzly Bear
Brown Bear
Polar Bear
Black Bear
Gray Wolf
Wolf Packs
The Wildness Inside
Author's Note
More About Big Carnivores

Image Credit - Barnes and Noble
SYNOPSIS:
(Recommended ages:  6-10)
Lions and tigers and bears... and WOLVES- oh my!  Acclaimed nature writer and illustrator Jim Arnosky introduces awe-inspiring wild predators:  carnivores that survive by tooth and claw.  Follow the huge paw prints of big cats like the African lion and the speedy cheetah; of massive bears like the fierce grizzly; and the gray wolf- forerunner of your own pet dog.  One spectacular double gatefold plus two single foldouts present the animals up close and lifelike!

The illustrations throughout the book are in direct competition with the information that we learned! I can not decide which one we like more!  So, I guess I will say it was a tie!!!!
You can learn more about Jim Arnosky (the author) by visiting his site.
We have been very pleased with his work, and you can read our review of  Shimmer and Splash to see why!
