Don't Write the Adventure, Live it! We Bought a Zoo Review

Featuring Family Friendly Audio Track The Whole Family Will Go Wild for this Heartwarming Adventure Starring Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson On Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Download April 3

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Cameron Crowe (Almost FamousJerry Maguire) and starring Matt Damon (ContagionTrue Grit), Scarlett Johansson (Iron Man 2Vicky Cristina Barcelona) and Thomas Haden Church (Easy ASideways), WE BOUGHT A ZOO is “a sweet-natured tale…that you’ll want to see with your kids” (Liz Braun, Jam! Movies).
Benjamin Mee (Damon) is a Los Angeles newspaper columnist and adventure writer who, as a single father, faces the challenges of raising his two young children.  Hoping that a fresh start and a new life will restore their family spirit, Mee quits his job and buys an old rural house outside the city with unique bonus feature: a zoo named the Rosemoor Animal Park, where dozens of animals reside under the care of head zookeeper Kelly Foster (Johansson) and her dedicated team.  With no experience, limited time and a shoestring budget, Mee sets out with the support of his family and the local community to reopen the zoo.  Now, Benjamin is no longer reporting an adventure story; he’s living it in his own backyard.
Featuring an incredible musical score composed by Jónsi of the band Sigur Rós, the WE BOUGHT AZOO Blu-ray is loaded with over 2½ hours of special features including 20 deleted and extended scenes, a gag reel, four behind-the-scenes featurettes, commentary with Director Cameron Crowe, star J.B. Smoove (The Sitter, “Curb Your Enthusiasm”) and Editor Mark Livolsi, and more. The film also features an English Family Friendly Audio Track that earned the Dove Seal of Approval.  The Blu-ray and DVD will be available for an average retail price of $24.99 and $19.99 respectively.

We just loved this movie!  I was lucky enough to have the chance to watch this with both Marc and Broxton.  Broxton enjoyed it for the animals... Marc and I loved the story with it.  It was wonderfully portrayed and neither of us knew that this was based on a true story! It makes you fall in love with it that much more!  Matt Damon has always impressed me with his movies and this did not disappoint!  I had actually mentioned wanting to see this as soon as I saw the first preview!  I highly recommend you having the family all together for a movie night once this comes out!

Go On An Adventure with TinTin - The Adventures of TinTin Review

Wow!  We just watched the movie, The Adventures of TinTin and it was a good one.
I told Marc that I can't remember when I watched an animated movie like that... As it was animated, but not a cartoon.  It was like a movie for adults.. .but the animation makes it just as great for kids!
As we watched it, I made a comment that it was like an animated version of  "National Treasure."
It was full of adventure and it really keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Ha!  I think that Marc and I got into it more than Broxton!  I was very impressed with the animation and guess what?  That was the first thing that Marc said as well!

Let me tell you about this "adventure"
TinTin is the boy (I went into the movie thinking it was the dog!)  He is a reporter and stumbles upon a story needing to be told!    All because of a ship he purchased that has a secret!  Not only does he need to find the secret, he needs to figure out the curse!  I don't want to give more away, but I will tell you this... Because I know that this is from a book, I want to get the books to have for Broxton to read when he gets older!
Since there are so many books, I hope that means there will be more movies!

We received this movie for review as well as a few goodies to go along with it! I have not given them to Broxton yet, as we have been a bit fussy lately... but once he gets them, I can only imagine the adventures he will set out on!  This is a movie we will watch again and again!

Aloha Friday: School Lunch

It's Friday!
Welcome to Aloha Friday!  I am linking up with Kailani and hope you will as well.  From Kailani's blog:

Welcome to this week’s edition of Aloha Friday. In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too.

My question this week is a bit for advice:

If you were to pack a lunch for a toddler to take to school..

What would you pack?  There can be no peanut products at all...

Have a great weekend!!!!

Just in Time for Fathers Day - Hoosiers on Blu-ray June 5

What a great movie:

An All New Blu-ray Perfectly Timed For Father's Day Coming On June 5, 2012
From director David Anspaugh, one of the most legendary sports movies of all time is being released in an all new Blu-ray from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. Based on the true story of the Milan High School basketball team, HOOSIERS boasts an all-star cast that includes the likes of Gene Hackman, Barbara Hershey, and Academy Award® nominee Dennis Hopper. The film was recently hailed as the #1 sports movie of all time by The Los Angeles Times, as determined by nearly 1,400  of its readers who participated in a user poll.
Norman Dale (Gene Hackman) is a volatile basketball coach with a dark past who arrives in a small, rural Indiana town to attempt to lead the high school team to victory. This group of underdogs needs all the help they can get, and no one would have ever suspected that it would come from the unlikely duo of Dale and his newly hired assistant coach, the town's recovering alcoholic, Shooter (Dennis Hopper). Under Dale and Shooter's guidance, the Hickory team surprises their town - and themselves - by not only becoming an unstoppable team during the basketball season, but also taking home the 1952 State Championship.

Hoosiers has received abundant accolades, and can be found on the top film lists of over 100 movie critics. It has been highly ranked on movie lists created by AFI, ESPN, and Sports Illustrated, and was also chosen by the Library of Congress to be preserved in the United States National Film Registry for being "culturally, historically, and aesthetically significant".

Laugh and Cry with The Descendants - Out Now March 13

If you are looking for a movie to both make you laugh and make you cry...
the Descendants is just the movie for you.  I loved it and Marc did as well.
It really has hilarious parts in it that had Marc literally laughing out loud at it...
The only draw back to this is that there is a good amount of profanity.  I would recommend this to my mom and my aunt, but due to the language, I know both would turn it off before it was over... Unless they could actually over-look it.  Especially the daughter, Alex.  She has much built up anger and you can tell that one of her ways to get it all out is her nasty mouth.
Now that I have watched the movie (and learned that it is based on a book) I really want to read the book now.  For those of you like me that enjoy reading, I am adding a study guide to this post that is a "book to film discussion guide."
I will tell you this, while watching the movie, I made a comment to Marc that I really liked the way George Clooney aged from the start of the movie to the middle... I don't know if it was done on purpose (although I think it should have been) or if it was just life... but, I did think that it added to the story!

Helping Kids to Get Along - Red & Yellow's Noisy Night

The latest book that we have been reading is Red & Yellow's Noisy Night.
This is a great book for us right now, as it talks about getting along when things are so different.
You see, Red loves to play his strummy really loud and for long periods of time.  While that is going on, take a guess what Yellow wants to do.  He want's to snuggle up with his pillow and sleep!  We all know how it is to want to sleep and relax, but have loud sounds around us preventing that rest from happening..

Here is a Q and A with the author, Josh Selig.

1.  What inspired Red & Yellow’s characters?

JOSH:  Well, Red is based loosely on a friend of mine in college who was a wonderful dancer.  She was spontaneous and intuitive and free.  Yellow is based on Malcolm Butler.  He is the IT Director at my company, Little Airplane.  Malcolm is very brilliant and he likes everything done in a certain way.

2.  Why did you choose an Olive Tree?

JOSH:  I spent some time working in the Middle East where olive trees are very common and beloved by all.  They provide everything from oil to wood to shade.  And there's no better symbol of peace than an olive branch.

3.  I have to ask, which one do you best identify with – Red or Yellow?

JOSH:   I am more like Yellow but I would like to be more like Red.  I think Red gets to have more fun.

4.  Have you ever played a “strummy”?

JOSH:  As a matter of fact, I played the electric guitar when I was a teenager.  Mostly Ted Nugent and Rolling Stones songs.  I was in a little band and we played in my friend's basement and we used a cardboard box for a base drum because we couldn't afford a real one.

5.  Why do you think Red & Yellow are so popular with kids?

JOSH:  In addition to just being very cute, they show kids that all problems can be resolved with patience, empathy, and a little creativity.  I think that's a message that has great appeal to all ages.

6.  If there’s one thing everyone—even adults—could learn from Red & Yellow, it
would be that…

JOSH:  We all need one another.  Any conflict can be resolved peacefully.  It doesn’t matter what the question is, love is always the answer.

7.  What’s your favorite thing about coming to work every day?

JOSH:  Having smart people around me who are good at all the things that I'm not good at.  I'm amazed every day by the talent of our designers, animators and producers.  I am very lucky to work with these folks.

8.  If you could have one wish, what would it be?

JOSH:  I would like to be able to spend more time in the country.  I've been a city person my whole life and I find myself wishing, for the first time, I had a small house on a hill with a little dog and a family.

We really enjoyed this book.  In today's days where you see bullying all the time, especially on the news, it saddens me.  I feel that if we as parents work together,  we can help to make bullying a thing of the past.  It isn't too early to start talking to little ones.  Think about it... If we talk to them now on how to solve conflict peacefully, maybe it will stick in their heads to bigger things once they are older.  Red and Yellow worked out their issues so that both of them were happy in the end...
Josh (the author) is the founder of Little Airplane Productions (you might now this name because of 3rd and Bird and Small Potatoes!)  I say this is a must have book to add to your collection!
Really, can we ever have too many books?!

In this book, they work together to solve the problem.
What would you think that they should do?
How would you solve the problem?

Our Incredible Night with @WWE. That's What Memories Are Made Of

Not to brag about my hometown or anything, but the last few weeks have brought much excitement to Albany, Georgia!  I was very shocked to see that Smackdown: The Road to Wrestlemania was going to be headed down there.  I just tend to think of the WWE in bigger venues, so I really wanted to go and take Broxton.  Not that the Civic Center down there is teeny, tiny... but that it is small in comparison to Atlanta's Phillips Arena!

We luckily had the chance to go and you will never believe who went with Broxton and I...
My parents! Yes!  They really wanted to go and see how Broxton would react to seeing all the wrestlers... and I tell you now... Broxton did not disappoint!  He was yelling and screaming and chanting just as loud as every other person in there.  My parents were a bit of amusement all in their own too...
Photobucket
Broxton so excited to be at WWE!!!!
(Even in his too big for him John Cena shirt!)
Why?  Because they know nothing about today's wrestlers, so they were basically just along for the ride... Until my mom wanted to know "who is the good guy and who is the bad guy?"  or my dad asking "when do the girls come out to wrestle?!"
Photobucket
Now for the WWE Diva's!

We got there and I was really surprised how great our seats were!  In Atlanta it was us and like 80,000 other WWE fans... At the Albany Civic Center, it only holds around 10,000 so if they utilized every single seat, we still had better chances of seeing things!
Photobucket
Up close to see Alberto Del Rio

I did notice that the WWE Smackdown in Albany was a much smaller scale than the WWE RAW event we went to in Atlanta.  From the WWE set up (where the wrestlers come out) to the ringside seats surrounding the ring... But no complaints here... it just added to the awesomeness of it all!
Photobucket
The Great Khali entering!!!!!

Photobucket
Khali taking down Jinder Mahal.

We had no clue who was coming or any of the matches, so it was all exciting to see who was coming next!
First up was The Great Khali!  Now, he just cracks me up!  When he comes out "dancing" to his music. No matter who your wrestler is, you can not help to cheer along with everyone for Khali... There is just something about him...  He has Indian music playing as he comes out and he immediately gets the entertainment going...  In our case, he was in a match versus Jinder Mahal.
Photobucket
Cody Rhodes

After that , we had the chance to hear my mom talking about Cody Rhodes (she thinks he is cute) and was so excited/surprised to hear that he is Dusty Rhodes' son!  She had to share that tidbit of information with my dad once I told her.  Cody kept coming out and messing with the other wrestlers... To the point that he was constantly booed... and he could not figure out why no one was cheering for him, since he is from Georgia.. Lol, he isn't much of a "good ol boy" and that is what the south is about... It was neat seeing him so up close and all... but he isn't one of my favorites!

Broxton is really into liking Randy Orton, Big Show and CM Punk these days.. (As well as John Cena, but we knew Cena wasn't going to be there, since he isn't part of Smackdown...)  We were hoping some of the others that Broxton liked was going to be there and wow, was I surprised to hear Broxton cheering the way he did when Sheamus came out!
Photobucket
Sheamus

Yes, I admit that I got into cheering for him too!  Are you ready for this?

Photobucket
It's the Big Show!!!
Remember how I said it was more of an intimate setting there?  Lol, like wrestling is intimate... But you know what I mean... It was a smaller venue so you got to be a bit more personal?  Well... If you are a fan of the WWE, you want to try to go see them when they come to a smaller area... Why?
Only because they would finish their match and then walk around the ring... HI-Fiving the fans... signing autographs... even posing for pictures with some of them!  Now, I am not saying that they do this all the time, but I saw with my own two eyes that they did it that night in Albany!  It was so neat to see and I know that the people that were up close for that will always have those awesome memories!!!!
Photobucket
Sheamus signing autographs!

On to the highlight of the night...
The final match... Daniel Bryan, Big Show and Randy Orton!
I was pretty excited to see Randy Orton and I was starting to wonder if he wasn't going to be there... THEN... HE CAME!!!!

Photobucket

If you want to see a couple more of my pictures from the WWE event in Albany, just head on over to my Photobucket Photo Album and have a look!

Just remember that WWE should be coming to an area near you soon!!
They are actually going to be in Atlanta on March 26th.  I really wish that we could go there... I know that Marc would love to go and see it again... especially since he did not get to go to the show in Albany!
Hmm, maybe if we get a surprise money or tickets to show up at our door!  ha ha... I am doubting that, but you never can tell! :)

Just head on over to the WWE  events site to see when they will be near you!
* Wrestelmania is in Miami, April 1st!
Just in case you don't already... Follow WWE on Twitter and Facebook!

*** Totally different side note, but still WWE related... If you are a movie fan, they have several movies released with the WWE superstars in them.  You don't have to be a WWE fan to love them.  We have been impressed with all that we have seen.  The only thing?  Some are not available for rental... But all can be purchased at Wal-Mart! ***

Tell Me About Your Dreams... Hugo Movie Review

Movies are where dreams are made.... or something similar to that...
That was the conversation that stuck with me when watching the movie, Hugo.

I loved this movie.  As soon as you watch it, you will know what I meant by that first line... and you will also see why I can say that I loved this movie.

The little boy that plays Hugo had me as a fan in Nanny McPhee Returns, so I was happy to see him as a main character again...   This movie is different... I guess that is how to put it.
It is the story of Hugo. He lives in a train station ...   Always having to run and hide from the inspector.  (That part made me sad and it was really weird seeing Sasha Baron Cohen as that role.)  This movie is all about gadgets... and belonging... Whether it is the mechanical piece that belongs in the item ... or the person belonging in the current situation. I can not say enough how much I really enjoyed this movie.  Marc was right there with me and once it was over he even commented on how it was a good movie.  Broxton would watch from time to time, but I felt like it was more of an attention grabber for older kids, not young ones like Broxton.  I will warn you, I did feel as though it was a bit slow to get going, but once you were watching, you were sucked in and glued to your seat to see what would happen at the end.
Grab the popcorn and coke and make a movie night tonight with the whole family!   I do not remember any profanity in this movie at all, so it is one that I really mean the whole family!

Larry the Cable Guy Get's R Done in Tooth Fairy 2

We have had the chance to watch several great movies lately.
One of which was Tooth Fairy 2.
Now, we loved the original one that had the Rock. Partly because it was a funny movie, but also because this whole house consists of "The Rock" fans.  I find Larry the Cable Guy simply hilarious.. So I was pretty eager to watch the second installment of the Tooth Fairy.
After seeing the previews for this one, I was curious as to how it would compare.  I think part of me enjoyed the first one more, since it was a new story line.  This is a continuation of the first one, but with Larry as the new Tooth Fairy.  I think I might have been a bit disappointed, since none of the cast from the first movie was in this one... I was looking forward to that...  Don't get me wring, it was funny... but it was a bit to be expected as far as the story goes.
BUT, I did love Larry.  He is just as funny as he always is... and it was cute to have a little girl as his boss.
Marc and I both busted out laughing when he made mention of "Who am I, the rock?!"  I loved how they did reference the first one...  I think that younger kids and die hard Larry the Cable Guy fans will enjoy this movie the most.  As I said, it was cute and funny, but a bit to predictable for me to really enjoy it.  I can not wait until the boys come, they thought that the first one was hilarious, so I know they will enjoy this one as well.
