Here Come the Octonauts DVD #Giveaway

In Here Come the Octonauts, Captain Barnacles must figure out how to free an old friend who is trapped beneath the ice; Kwazii tries to rescue a reef full of creatures before an undersea storm strikes; and Peso must help a school of frightened fish who have invaded the Octopod!

Based on the books of the same name by Vicki Wong and Michael Murphy, who write under the name Meomi, Octonauts is broadcast weekday mornings on Disney Channel’s Disney Junior block. The Octonauts received a BAFTA nomination for Best Animated Preschool Show in 2011 and 2013; and in October 2012 was nominated for an International EMMY Award.

And watch out in 2014 for some great new Octonauts events—the Octonauts have recently partnered with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to work jointly to raise awareness of ocean exploration and science and advance NOAA’s mission!  The partnership, which extends learning beyond the screen, includes plans for events at aquariums nationwide and joint development of educational materials!

It’s time to meet the crew!

A brave polar bear extraordinaire and the leader of the Octonauts crew. He's always the first to rush in and help whenever there's a problem.

A daredevil orange kitten with a mysterious pirate past. He loves excitement and travelling to exotic places.

PESO PENGUIN is the medic for the team. He's an expert at bandaging and always carries his medical kit with him in case of emergencies. He's not too fond of scary things, but if a creature is hurt or in danger, he can be the bravest Octonaut of all!

Together with the rest of their crew, DASHI (SAUCI) DOG, SHELLINGTON SEA OTTER, TWEAK BUNNY, PROFFESSOR INKLING OCTOPUS and TURNIP THE VEGIMAL, the Octonauts explore the world's oceans, rescue the creatures who live there, and protect their habitats - above and below the waves!

Broxton has really enjoyed watching this DVD!!!
Now, you get to see how much entertainment that you can bring to a young one you know...
One lucky winner will win a DVD copy for their house!!!

Have You Ever Heard?

Let me get your opinion on something...
You know how it has been so cold lately?  Well, school was supposed to start back on Tuesday for us... But, due to the cold weather, they cancelled school and have us planning to go back on Wednesday.

I personally think that is fine... Now, I know that northern states are used to cold and laugh at us for cancelling school because of temperatures.  (It was 6* this morning, with the wind chill at -6*) but like I said, I am fine with them cancelling...

1 - Because we were not sure if the roads were going to ice over... and that ICE STORM years ago still has a fear in me...
2 - Because they were unsure that the buses would start.  I guess there is something that the north does to prepare their buses, I heard it costs around $70 PER bus to get this taken care of...  Our education budget is so messed up already, I don't see the need to pay that for an "IN CASE" situation...
3 -  Some kids do not have appropriate clothing for this weather, why send them out in it?
4 -  What if the power went out at school, like it did in many homes, then the parents would be blaming the school system for that too..
5 - Lots of water pipes bursting, what if it was at the school?
6 - If they had to shut down the schools because of the weather, then what would the kids do that were there and had to get home?

I just feel like you can't be too safe with our kids today...
There is enough going on each day that closing down one day for cold weather really can't be the end of the world.  I know it is hard for parents that work and would have to take a day off or seek childcare elsewhere, but luckily for us, we have not had to deal with that...

I hope you all are staying warm where you are...
Have you ever heard of closing school because of the temperature being so low?

If you remember, we did a book countdown this year.  Each night, Broxton was able to open a new "gift" and we had a new bedtime story to read.  I wanted to list the books that we opened, but I have a question for you as well... I am going to take all the Christmas and Winter themed books and put up until next year.  If you were me, would you go ahead and wrap them with the left over wrapping paper from this year?  Or wait and wrap them all up next year?  They are just going into a storage box until we need to pull them out next Christmas season....
(You can click on each title to read my review on the book.)

A Bit of Nostalgia - @millerlite

My dad cracks me up...
He has drank Miller Lite - in the cans, as long as I can remember...
(That was a must have at my wedding reception, just so you know...)
Well, this is the way the cans looked when I was growing up:

Obviously, they have changed their look through the years, but they have reintroduced the cans from my childhood... and of course dad had to buy some!!!  I just think it is hilarious that he had the ad to show what it looked like.  ( I think the magazine was from 1986 or so.)

What design/packaging have you seen come back around from your younger days?

If you remember my trip to Americas Mart, you remember that I had a great time and learned about several new products and companies...
I was lucky enough to meet a really awesome and energetic lady that had a pretty cool product for me to share with you... Zazzy Pals!!!

What Is Zazzy Pals, you might be asking...
Well, Zazzy Pals is so neat.   It is packaged in a way to grab your attention...
Zazzy Pals Canine Cardz is full of fun!!!
Inside each package, you have cards, color pencils, a notepad and 4 rubber bones.
But that is not where it ends...
That container full of excitement gives you 8 games of fun... plus tips on drawing your own dogs!!!
I thought it was only instructions for like 5 dogs, but the cards have different dogs on the other side!!!!

Eight Games To Play:
  • Mutt Match
  • Go Fetch
  • Woof
  • Zazzy 3’s
  • Stay
  • Pass That Pooch
  • Bones
  • Dog Catcher

    The Fun:
    • 8 Ways to Play, 15 minutes of family fun per game
    • Grab-it Dog Bones for
      high action
    • Learn to draw dogs, too!
    • 12 colored pencils and sketch pad included
    • Easy, classic play patterns

Broxton decided that he was going to shuffle the cards for us to play.
I love that the cards are very colorful and we were able to use them in several different ways.
  • Reinforces reading, color recognition, matching, visual discrimination, fine motor skills and visual memory

He was so focused on the game... Or at least he tried to be!!!
I do believe that his favorite game was "Go Fetch" and we had to play it at least a few times to start.
I love that the games are all quick and fast... Great for those with little attention spans and also for a quick game while waiting on food ... or even for a quick game before bed!!!

We really have been having a great time and are planning on doing a game night at least once a week now!
What better time than during the cold days/ nights to get more family time in?

This would be a great game for kids of all ages - says ages 5 and older on there, so there is NO limit!!!
Also makes a great gift for the pet lover in the family!!!!

Make sure to follow on Facebook and Twitter.

Do You Want To Build A Snowman?

So, we don't have snow here...  but I really LOVE that song... and my pictures are FROZEN (and I LOVE that movie.)
Anyways- the weather is getting colder and colder... and Marc wanted to make an Ice Tree for Broxton...
Here is what we had :

What is the weather like where you are ?

I have decided that this year is going to be about making more memories...
Yes, we can give physical gifts ... but at the end of the day, when you look back, are you going to remember the package of Army Men that you opened on Christmas, or are you going to remember the memories of playing with the Army men and daddy?  (Not necessarily those items, but you know what I mean...)

This year - the boys did not really get many PHYSICAL gifts... but they have memories.

We asked them if they wanted to go to the LSU / UGA game - and that be their Christmas gift...  or they could not go to the game and get physical presents... They chose the game.
I knew I wanted them to open something, so they each unwrapped a picture frame.. Inside the frame was an individual picture of them with their daddy and then their ticket stub.
They were happy... but what they did not know was that I was planning on making yet another memory....

I had been emailing to get us a chance to go see Gwinnett Gladiators Hockey.
Then, the day of the event ....  We headed towards the Arena.
We told the boys we were taking them to the Mall and that I needed to stop and ask for directions....  (Luckily they had landscaping people out there so it worked in my favor...)
Then, I parked and we surprised them!!
They were pretty excited and it was a first time thing for all of them!!!

The best part was that we were able to have a behind the scenes tour before hand!!!!  We got to see the guys warming up with hand / eye coordination drills and then we saw it...
THE ZAMBONI!!!!!!!!!   I was thrilled to see that and of course, I had to get a picture of the boys (plus a girlfriend) beside it!!!  This is one that I just LOVE!!!!!

With the Zamboni
They might not have a great record this year, but we did get to see the display case of all of the awards they have won through the years.
Broxton checking out all of the awards.
After touring the Arena, we grabbed a bite to eat.  ( I had an awesome philly cheesesteak, some had hot dogs and then a couple had meatball subs.)  I did like that they had drinks you could buy with refills included, as well as a refillable popcorn bucket.    The food was good, but it was their expressions that made it so worth it...
Okay, maybe this photo isn't a great one, but it makes me laugh!

This photo melts my heart... and if I heard it once, I heard it several times "THIS IS AWESOME!"
Our seats were great and it was awesome to be so close to the action!!!  Although I was looking to see a fight and we barely got to see one... It was still a great time!!!

Down close to the action.

The one time I thought we were going to get to see some extra action!!!!

The Gladiators Mascot, Maximus. He is very fan friendly!

End of the match and Broxton was beat!!!!

We had a great time watching the Gwinnett Gladiators!!!
Ticket prices are very affordable and the memories being made ... well, you can not beat that!!!!

Head on over to their site to see the deals that they have...
They have even started "Friendly Fridays" that are great deals!!!!

I know we had a blast and I am so excited that we were able to make memories.
We could have given them cash and it would have been blown on junk... but instead, we made memories that they will always remember!!!!

We were given a great "welcome" gift bag and they all got a souvenir from the game...
(Not to mention Broxton bought a jersey, one bought a hat and then after the game, we had to make a special trip to go buy 2 of them hockey sticks and they had a couple practice matches in our garage!!!!)

Thanks to the Gwinnett Gladiators for a memorable time and I know we will be headed back soon!!!
Make sure you look into getting tickets - there are a few more games left this year- or plan on buying tickets next year.  If you are not near Atlanta, you should plan a trip to visit and make sure you go see the Gladiators play!!!!

Rite Aid Photo Deals and a Calendar #Giveaway

As I have mentioned before, I absolutely LOVE photo gifts...
I just think they are so much more personal and having a 4 year old.... you know they just grow so fast!!!
I think I have given at least ONE photo gift each year since becoming a mom...
This year was no different and I even added a couple things for myself!!!

Rite Aid has been quite the spot with all of their photo gift coupon codes ...
Talk about helping you to save money!!!
I can proudly say that I now have a beautiful canvas from them... and I gave my grandmother one of their fleece blankets.   Let me tell you about that...    I will say that it was a bit bigger than I expected...  which is a great thing, but I might have chosen a different photo had I known how it would look.  She lives in an "assisted living" of sorts home and has mentioned that a few of her things have gone missing, so I thought it would be great to give her a blanket with a picture of the boys...  That way people would have a hard time explaining the blanket... and because it would give her a photo of them, without taking up space in a frame.  When it arrived, I was a bit shocked...(Had I paid more attention when ordering, I would have been prepared...)  The blanket is gorgeous... and one of the softest blankets I have ever touched... but the image takes up the whole blanket and in turn makes their faces HUGE!!!!  I had the 4 boys on there and I am pretty sure we could lay it out on the floor and you could see it from pretty high up.  Maybe if I order blankets again *(which I probably will because they are SO SOFT) I will NOT do a close up photo... or will do one of a scene - thinking trees or waterfall or the beach or something... Live and learn.  As I said, it is soft and beautiful, but a bit overwhelming for the picture I chose to use...

Here are a few more deals if you are looking to make anything with the holiday photos you took:
The following deals are valid until January 11:

$5 off 6x8 softcover photobook: BOOK68

This calendar deal is only valid January 5-11:
40% off 8.5 x 11 calendars online only: CALENDAR40

I received a couple cute photo collage frames this year, so I will totally be taking advantage of the 8x10 enlargement Buy One Get One deal... as well as the 2 5x7 for $2

I ordered a calendar, but it has not yet arrived.  I loved how easy it was to totally personalize it.  I could choose what photo for what month... and could also choose what border I wanted to use.  The best part was that I could personalize it even further and add important dates in advance to have printed on there!!!

To help you see how great Rite Aid can be, I get to host a giveaway for one lucky reader to win a free code for a photo calendar.
The code expires January 15th, so you will need to .order quickly.

Now that the holiday season is behind us, what is next?
For us, we still have cold days ahead... and talk about cold... It is supposed to be like 9* next week.
(For some of you Northerners, we are not used to that cold...)

Since we will not be going outside much during this time...  We need to go ahead and decide what fun indoor activities we would be doing...
So glad that we were sent two new (to me) games....

They are from the bananagrams family and I am telling you...

This is so cute and fun!!!!
While the boys were here, I pulled out Appletters and two of us played for a while.
This is such a fun game... It reminded me of another game that we have played, but I love that  this is such a great game for travel.  You just throw the tiles in the little bag and go...
The one draw back for me?  The scoring tiles ---   you have to keep up with the little piece of paper that tells the score.  I would like to see that laminated, or at least an inner pocket made to hold it.  But honestly, that was the only thing... and we thought it was awesome!!!!

In Appletters, you have to make words and you can only make it like a worm.  You can't just make a word anywhere, it has to be at the start or the end....   That makes the challenge a bit more exciting!!!!
The scores for Appletters - We played, but did not keep score.  It was just as fun and this way, Broxton was able to "play" with us!!!  He had a blast as well!!!!
The other game we were sent was Pairs in Pears.  We have not really played it that much... but I love that there are several games to play in one.  It is neat that they include a sheet that tells you several different activities to keep kids of all ages entertained!

I like Pairs in Pears as we have been able to work with words.  I know that this would be great to work with Broxton and his site words... Also, you can use it to teach the different words and how changing one letter will change the whole word.   This is not only going to be a great game, but a fun teaching tool!!!
We have really had a great time working with the games so far... Like I said, I love that it is such an easy game to take when travelling.  I love the size... and of course, I love the packaging!!!!

Make sure to follow Bananagrams on Facebook and Twitter.

Have you played any of the games from the Bananagrams family?
