Are you familiar with S.T.E.M?  I will tell you, I had never heard of it until Broxton started Kindergarten and even then, I wasn't familiar with the term until they had "STEM NIGHT" at school and we went to let me see what all this was about.  Since that night, I have heard STEM mentioned numerous times and I love that "Science, Technology, Engineering and Math" are being introduced to kids at a younger age... Yes, numbers and the alphabet are great and they need to know that, but also it is great to introduce them to other things to learn to really expand their mind.  When Broxton started watching BLAZE, we saw STEM being involved, now we get to see that STEM teaching is crossing other Nickelodeon favorites...  Bubble guppies, Paw Patrol and even Team Umizoomi!!!!   YAY!!!!!!!

Broxton is 6 now, but he still enjoys some of the younger shows that come on Nickelodeon.  When we were sent the latest Wallykazam on DVD, I knew he would be excited.  He doesn't have cable in his room, so he loves getting DVD's so he can watch one before he heads off to bed.  I love Wallykazam because while it is entertaining, it is also educational.  That is a win for not only mama, but also for him!

Nickelodeon’s hit preschool literacy series Wallykazam! makes its DVD debut on April 28, 2015.  The series follows the adventures of Wally and his pet dragon, Norville, who live in a forest among giants, goblins and other fantastical creatures. Wally has a magic stick that makes words come to life on the screen playfully transforming the world around him. Wallykazam! is Nickelodeon’s first preschool series that embeds a literacy curriculum into a full-length story, introducing skills such as letter and sound identification, rhyming, vocabulary development and comprehension strategies.  Each of the four adventures features a new set of words and the DVD contains a free gift with purchase of customizable Wallykazamname labels while supplies last. Created by Nickelodeon and distributed by Paramount Home Media Distribution, Wallykazam! will be available on DVD on April 28, 2015 for the suggested retail price of $14.99.

Wallykazamincludes the following episodes:
  • Naptime for Borgelorp – Wally uses magic words to help tire out Ogre Doug’s hyper and unpredictable pet Borgelorp.
  • Castle Caper Wally must oust Bobgoblin from a castle intended for his pet dragon, Norville.
  • Victor the Villain – While pretending to be superheroes, Wally and Norville decide they need a real villain to match wits with and conjure up, Victor the Villain.
  • The Switching Stone – Wally, Norville and Gina Giant find a magical “switching stone” that’s a lot of fun until it turns Bobgoblin into a giant.

Having a son means I know all too much about stains and rips and all that good stuff.  We go through pants  and shorts around here like you just would not believe.  Sometimes I wonder if he just lays in the dirt to see how dirty he can get, but then I know he is having fun, so I am not too worried about it.  Don't get be wrong, I would love to be able to not have to deal with the stains, but I have to also be reasonable, my boy has fun and at the end of the day, that is all that matters!
When I was contacted and informed about a new (to me) fabric,
Nanotex, I was eager to learn more.  Nanotex :  uses nanotechnology to transform the molecular structure of fibers, creating fabrics with remarkable performance and comfort.   After reading that, I was thinking that it would be some fabric you would have to order online only, but then I kept reading...   Macy's, Target, Gymboree and Gap (to name a few) are the stores that carry clothing made with Nanotex!   Yes, I shop at these places and they are located near me.
I was able to review a pair of shorts (from Gap) to learn about this new fabric and I loved that they were so cute and comfortable on Broxton.  He wore them to church (you would be surprised where this kid can find dirt to play in) and when we went to leave, he looked as though they were fresh from the dryer.  The day he wore them, rain almost kept us home, but it wasn't that bad... When we went to leave church, it was HORRIBLE!  After running to the car (and when I got in, my pants were soaking wet, over halfway up my calf) I noticed that his shorts seemed to have repelled the water off of them. As in, I saw the water droplets on them, but they were totally dry.  Talk about being impressed with this.. Yes, we BOTH were!
Broxton said they were super comfortable.  Besides the fact that they can stand up to a rough and active little boy, I loved that they came with the adjustable waist in them.  Makes it better for us, that he has room to grow!
Are you familiar with Nanotex?  (It is available for more than just clothing, visit their website to learn more about it.) I for one like that it will save me money not having to invest in new clothes as often since these will be harder to stain!!!
Make sure to follow Nanotex on facebook and twitter to learn even more!

Homeless Animal House?

We seem to have scrap wood laying around here from time to time.  I honestly don't know where some of it comes from, but a few months ago, Broxton set out to build a "homeless animal house" for our outdoor friends.  He simply placed pieces of wood together, sort of like a house of cards and then put in a few leaves and acorns.  This boy of mine, I tell you.. He has my heart!
Well, about a week ago, he got in his head he wanted to BUILD a bird house, from that wood.  So, he asked daddy to help him out.  Daddy ended up building the house and Broxton got to paint it.  I tell you, it is the little things in life, don't forget it!  The house was built, the house was painted, he knew where he wanted to put it and the next day when he was at school, daddy surprised him and put it up.  Sure enough, as soon as we got home, Broxton noticed... Not only the birdhouse was out and ready, but we already had birds going in there to check it out!
Talk about excitement!

The birdhouse daddy built.  A two story high rise :)  We are getting fancy here!

Broxton was so excited to get to paint it.  He wanted to paint it all sorts of colors, but then decided white would be best!

My sweet boy working on painting his new birdhouse.
So, what did you do over Spring Break?
