I will be the first to admit that I am not a HUGE coffee drinker...
I do enjoy it, but then I realize I enjoy it just a bit too much and so I stop drinking it again...

Not too long ago, I was given the chance to review coffee from Coffee Bean Direct.
"Coffee Bean Direct is smaller coffee roaster based out of New Jersey, and their coffee is roasted fresh.  They differentiate themselves from their competitors with their unique company culture and a strong commitment to customer service. "
With an introduction like that, who could say no?!

Well, it arrived and I really enjoyed it... but let me tell you the truth...
I liked it, but I also add sugar and cream to my coffee, so I could not tell you 100% if the coffee was fantastic.  (I did like it though...)
So, I thought "who better to judge coffee than my brother?"
I don't get it...  He is JUST LIKE our dad....
Coffee - Black.
NOTHING ELSE.

Anywho...
He came to visit and in the morning, I fixed him a nice cup of coffee to go..
He was drinking it and I asked what he thought...
His response?  "It's fine, Noelle.... Come on!"
He is of few words almost always, so I should be used to that...
Then, as he went to drive off, he stopped and looked at me...
"Actually, this is REALLY GOOD coffee, I do have to be honest about that!"

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.
He DID like it... and I got a compliment from him...
Bottom line -
If you are a coffee fan, head on over to Coffee Bean Direct to see what all types of coffee they have...
Might be just what you are looking for during these colder months... Or maybe you want a nice new coffee to try to have on hand while you have visitors...   You know, this could make a great addition to a gift basket for the ones that have it all...
Let's be real here... As a girl born and raised in Georgia... The Southern Pecan Pie Coffee sounds
AH-MAZ-ING!

I am not sure if you are familiar with Girls of Grace.  ( I wasn't, but that doesn't really mean anything!) Well, the Girls of Grace Conference is tomorrow, November 16th in Atlanta..

A little about Girls of Grace:
It was founded in 2002 by trio Point of Grace and grew out of their desire to bring teen girls together to talk about issues that affect them, and share that a relationship with Christ is the true source for peace and assurance in their lives. It is a full-day event for teen girls featuring music by top Christian artists and guest speakers that discuss issues relevant to the girls. This is the perfect experience for teens and their leaders to build lasting memories and learn how to live life as EXTRAORDINARY individuals!

Being a teen in this day and age isn’t easy. Most people know that I try and buy an ornament each year for the boys...
In the past, we have done football teams (UGA and LSU) but then I decided that I wanted to try and capture something a bit more personal for them.  Something to define that year for them...
The plan is to give them these ornaments when they get married...
You know, a way to start their family tree without it being naked!
Until then, it gives us something to look back on and reminisce.

This year, it was a bit hard to decide what I wanted to do...
(and let me be honest, I am not going to tell you what I decided on, since I don't want them to see before they unwrap it!)

I was torn...
With so many options, what was I supposed to choose from?!

I thought about getting a personalized ornament with a boy with a cast on his leg... since one of the boys broke his leg, but then I could not remember if it was in 2013, or the end of 2012...
Then, I thought maybe I should get the oldest a football player, since it is his senior year and he was playing football for the high school....
Broxton has loved Karate, so I thought that might be an option...  But then I had to choose, Karate or Soccer?  He played (and loved) both this year!

Then, I saw the boy with the tablet and that was the youngest all the way...    He pretty much always has his tablet with him...

So, you see the dilemma?!
I finally decided what to get each of them... I feel confident that they will like the one that was chosen for them and they will always have a way to remember this year that is almost over...
I love knowing that I can order from Ornament Shop and that not only will I get a great ornament that is personalized for what we want to remember... I will also be getting a great price on them, they are very fair!!!

What way(s) do you remember each of the years?   Do you have any traditions?

Open Letter to Tom Cruise

If you choose to not get political, feel free to skip over this post...  But, it has been weighing heavily on my heart and I felt the need to do so. I wanted to post this on Veterans Day, but chose not to ...
I can not hold back any longer, I need to say it now:

An open letter to Tom Cruise in regards to statements made relating him to military:

(Taken from TMZ)

First, the Middle East -- Tom says his location shoots are just like serving a tour in Afghanistan, "That's what it feels like. And certainly on this last movie, it was brutal. It was brutal."

As for his physical training, Tom said, "There is difficult physical stamina and preparation. Sometimes I've spent months, a year, and sometimes two years preparing for a single film." But the kicker, he adds, "A sprinter for the Olympics, they only have to run two races a day. When I'm shooting, I could potentially have to run 30, 40 races a day, day after day."

Cruise's lawyer, Bert Fields, says the notion that Tom compares his acting to fighting a war is a distortion, pointing to a section in the deposition -- not part of the deposition that was publicly released -- in which Tom is asked, "Do you believe the situations [being in a movie and fighting a war in Afghanistan] are the same?"  Tom replies, "Oh come on."  Fields says that clearly means "of course not."

For the record, here's Tom's quote, responding to the opposing lawyer in the deposition:

Lawyer:  "Now, your counsel has publicly equated your absence from Suri for these extended periods of time as being analogous to someone fighting in Afghanistan.  Are you aware of that?"

Cruise:  "I didn't hear the Afghanistan, but that's what it feels like, and certainly on this last movie, it was brutal.  It was brutal."

Tom Cruise,

As a military wife, it really bothers me that you think your job has any comparison what so ever to the military.  No, I have never gone and served in combat, but as the wife left back home, I just do not seem to see the similarities...

You make MILLIONS of dollars for a film.
Most military members do not even make $50,000 for a YEAR in COMBAT.

You fly private jets and take limos to events, alone or with friends/family of your choosing.
They WALK in combat, DROP from helicopters, fly commercial to return home to see family, fly with coffins carrying their brothers and sisters in arm.

You dine at fancy restaurants, order room service, have basically anything you want to eat/drink as soon as your desire comes out of your mouth...

They eat MEALS from BOXES.  Sometimes the only hot meal of the day is a breakfast that you would not even think about eating...  The cookies/snacks that you take for granted are the finest treats or memories of home and loved ones.

You can pick up the phone and call (or even jet over to see) your loved ones whenever you want.
They spend days/weeks/months before they even get to meet their newborn baby for the first time.  Missing birthdays, holidays, special "first times".  Even missing the simple things of reading bedtime stories, helping with brushing teeth, holding hands with their loved ones, hugs just because.

This is not even getting into what they see and do during combat that you nor I will (luckily) never have to know about.
If they are lucky enough to return home, they come home changed:

Fourth of July or other celebrations take on a new fear... They can not be in crowds, hear fireworks... for some riding down the street is difficult as they are terrified of the fear of an IED waiting somewhere..
Forget a welcome home party as the crowd and surprise of things is just too much to deal with.

Family movie nights?  Best make popcorn before they get there or buy the bags already popped, even that is too much for some...

Going out to dinner?  Hope that you have a seat where they will not have their back to anything except for a wall...

You return home...  Sleepless nights... flashbacks... bad dreams...  not to mention if you lost anyone while you were deployed...   The military seems to be a bit more than what it is in your head...

You think your life is hard and that it is easy to compare your "training" to military...
Why not cancel a few movie premiers and go join up and try to go through bootcamp...  Try to certify for all the weapons you would need to know every single detail about...
See if you can handle all that they go through... day to day..  over and over ....

I know you might have not exactly meant it the way it came out... but it was taken that way.

As a wife that has gone through a deployment:  spending many nights alone... with a newborn baby ... hoping and praying that he would return home safe...   hoping that her baby would know his daddy... hating that he missed his sons first birthday... missed his first word... missed his first time crawling, rolling over, his first step....   hating that I could not wake up knowing he was not in harms way...
hoping and praying for an email, phone call, skype, anything to know he was okay.

Do you know how many times we watched VIDEO of my husband reading books so that our son would know his daddy when he did return?    Picture books of daddy all over so he would know him?
Yes...   that is military life... and quite honestly, I find it very offensive that you (a celebrity) would think that you remotely compare at all to our finest... the men and women in uniform that allow you the freedom to say and do as you please.

(Big thanks to Mark Wahlberg for standing up for our military!)

A few weeks ago I received a pretty interesting email...
It was in regards to the great superhero themed shows that come on The CW Saturday mornings....
I know I am not the most creative mom out there, but it hit me when I got this email...
I had never thought about making things for Broxton to enjoy ...   while watching his favorite shows!!!
(Yes, we do crafts, but not super hero stuff.. until now!)
Of course, that meant YES... I wanted to see what was in this box and get some ideas flowing...

Box of goodies arrives..
Broxton has no clue what is going on with the empty paper towel rolls.

Our Box included:  paper with a super  hero mask outline, paint, 3D glitter glue, yarn, paper towel rolls, craft foam, paint brushes, safety scissors, a mason jar, glue, popsicle sticks, markers and instructions to create three super craft projects.
So anyways...
We got to work on making a Super Hero Mask first.  We will be doing more, but this was first on our list...
The next up will probably be using the mason jar and Popsicle sticks!   I bet you want to know what that is about, don't you?
Well, let me tell you...

Take a list of super powers and cut/paste them onto the popsicle sticks...
Then, add them to the mason jar (as a holder)
Throughout the show/day have them grab a stick and act out different powers..

Powers:

X Ray Vision
Flying
Man of Steel
Web Slinging
Invisibility
Superior Self- Defense
Super Soni Speed
Spidey Sense
Super Strength
Lasso of Truth
Ring of Power
Breathing Underwater
Mighty Morphin Abilities
Ability to Read Minds
Teamwork
Night Vision

We had a blast doing the mask, as you can see here:

I am thinking that although this would be a great craft project any time...
This would be an AWESOME gift for the kid that has everything...
A box of crafts to make... and the best gift of all is the memories they will share with you!!!!

Another Year, Another Photo

We have this place near my parents home town...
Kids go there on school trips, we stop there for delicious boiled peanuts...   and also photo opportunities!
I do believe that Broxton has gone each year... This year, we sort of dropped the ball..
We planned on going, but never made it, well, I mean we did not make it for the photo's.
We did stop once, but it was just for a minute and Broxton was not dressed the way I would have liked for photos... but he had fun and the memories continue!!!
Had I not had the other issues going on, we would have been able to go for the photos I wanted!!!
Either way, I still got pictures, so the tradition continues!!!

Tips for Bullying

FTC Compliant Review Policy:
The product(s) featured in this review were provided free of cost to me by the manufacturer or representing PR agency for the sole purpose of product testing. Opinions expressed are my own and are NOT influenced by monetary compensation.

The Office Depot Foundation – the independent, nonprofit philanthropic arm of Office Depot - in partnership with Brooks Gibbs, one of the nation’s leading youth crisis counselors and bullying experts - is rolling out its “Be The Difference. Speak Up Against Bullying!” program in middle schools across the U.S. during the upcoming school year, with support from the global pop sensation band One Direction and Office Depot.

Gibbs, author of the book Love is Greater Than Hate, is conducting school assemblies for students as well as anti-bullying education sessions for parents, teachers and administrators around the nation throughout the school year. The campaign aims to give students the confidence and courage to use the Golden Rule as a strategy for reducing bullying. Gibbs’ “treat everyone like friends - even your enemies” philosophy enhances One Direction’s message of “Live Nice.”

Tips for anyone who finds themselves the victim of a bully:

1.       Refuse to get mad – Disable the anger button in your brain and show the bully he can try all he wants, but he won’t get you mad.  The natural response is to get angry, but you can decide not to.

2.       Treat everything as the words of your best friends – This sounds crazy but it works.  No matter how nasty or angry people can be, tell yourself the only reason they are talking this way is because they love you, care about you and want to help you.  It doesn’t mean you have to treat them as if they are right or do whatever they tell you.

3.       Don’t be afraid of bullies – Our bullies will never stop bullying us if we continue to be afraid of them.  Even if they are bigger and stronger than you, most of them are not the evil villains you have been imagining them to be.  (if they have a history of violent behavior, they are criminals or have other issues and stay away from them).

4.       Don’t attack bullies – If we attack bullies, even if they attacked us first, we are letting them know we consider them enemies.  So we can expect them to treat us like enemies.

5.       Don’t defend yourself – The harder we defend ourselves, the bigger we lose, and the bully will continue attacking to force us into the losing defensive position.

6.       Don’t tell on bullies – Despite what most people say, telling on bullies, except under rare circumstances, is the worst thing you can do.  It’s the best way to make the bullies despise you.  The bully will respect you more if you can work out the problem with him or her on your own.

7.       Show you are hurt, not angry – If you show the bully anger, he or she will respond with anger.  Show the bully you are hurt and he or she is more likely to apologize and avoid hurting you again.

This year, to mark the 13th anniversary of the National Backpack Program, the Office Depot Foundation will donate 300,000 backpacks with essential school supplies to deserving children in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and internationally. By the end of 2013, Office Depot and the Office Depot Foundation will have donated more than 3 million backpacks and sackpacks since the inception of the program in 2001. But while these numbers are very large, the sackpacks make an impact on a singular level − one child at a time.

Playing Catch Up!

I know I have been MIA a bit lately...
It has been a bit hectic here these days and it is time for catch up now.
Just a picture I like of Broxton..
ENJOY

First of all, I was in the process of blogging future posts when the computer shut off...
I tried to bring it back to life, with NO RESULT...
DEAD - DEAD- DEAD.
I had to take it in to be looked at (since I know NOTHING about computers) and they had to mail it out...
So, my planned posts ran out ... and I had nothing...
Talk about being stuck in a hard place... I did not realize how much I depend on my computer...

While I was having computer withdrawals, I had ear surgery....  Fun times there!
My mom and dad came up to help out with Broxton (and to help look after me!)
Long story short, I had a cyst type thing on the back of my eardrum... It had eaten away at my ear bones...
The surgery was supposed to be around 3-4 hours... Yeah, it was worse than they thought and it took over 5 hours!

Luckily for me, my MOPS MOMS have been taking great care of me...
They brought meals for the family and were praying for me to get through all of this...
I was totally freaking out!!!

Now, I have my computer....  and my doctor says my ear is healing great!
Of course, dealing with the ear, I got a cold and my doctor did not want me sick... so he had me on medicine to make sure I was good to go...

Then, my stepson had his senior night at high school.  (He plays football and they introduced them on the field before the game.)  It was raining... I was not supposed to get my ear wet... so Broxton and I left ... Like 8 minutes into the game...

Anyways, that was what I meant...
CHAOS these days... but, I am back!!!
