Do you remember what the theme was for your first birthday party?  (or your kids first birthday party.)  I honestly can not remember what we did for Broxton and I would be lying if I said I remembered what we did for mine, I do know that my first was a Mickey Mouse party, but that is because my mom told me when we got to talking about Disney the other day.
If you read the blog regularly, you know that we LOVE Disney and we have been very blessed to review many books from Disney Publishing.  Well, I was given the chance to host a Disney Party and we were sent a box full of Disney goodies!   As soon as I saw the Mickey Mouse decorations, I knew I wanted to share that special day with a good friend of mine.  She was getting ready to celebrate her daughters first birthday and what better than Mickey and friends to share the day????
If you follow me on Instagram, you saw a couple photos from the big day, but lets get real... Can you really ever have "too much" Disney?  I think not!!!!
(Side note, when Marc first returned home from his deployment, we surprised the boys with a trip to Disney!!!  Talk about magic and lots of memories!)
No matter if you want to make your own cake or cupcake, or buy them already made, you will always find Mickey and Minnie!!!
Plates, napkins and even cups!
Disney makes it easy for those of us that aren't creative and like to purchase things already handled!

I thought the Minnie snack cups were just too cute!

Sweet birthday girl loves her Minnie Mouse!

How do you show your Disney Side????

Friday Feast - Alfajores (Peruvian Cookies)

I get random emails quite often and will just hit the delete button. Other times, I get recipes or some information that I might need or want to eventually share with you guys.
With Paddington (the movie) coming out, I received an email for a recipe and decided to keep it... In hopes that I would decide to bake and try them out.  I have not had an urge to bake yet, but I thought it would be great to share the recipe with you all now.
Let me know if you try it!!!!

Alfajores (Peruvian cookies)
By Marita Lynn – Runa Restaurant, Red Bank, NJ

Yield: 50 Alfajores
Ingredients:
2 cups All Purpose flour, sifted
¾ cup Butter, room temperature
4 tablespoons Powdered Sugar
1 cup Manjar Blanco (aka Dulce de Leche)
            1 can evaporated milk
            1 can condensed milk
            1 cinnamon stick
Cookie Preparation:
In a bowl, mix together, the flour, butter and sugar. Once mixed, use your hands to create a uniform dough. Cover the dough with plastic wrap and rest in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
Heat the oven to 350 degrees.
On a floured surface, making sure to flour your roller, roll the dough to ½- inch thickness. Using a 2 inch round cutter, cut out Alfajores and place on baking sheet.
Bake for 20 minutes
Let the Alfajores cool on a wire rack.
Fill the Alfajores with Dulce de Leche sandwich style.
Dust with powdered sugar.
Filling Preparation:
Combine evaporated milk and condensed milk in a pan with cinnamon stick and simmer for two hours until it changes color and obtains a thick consistency.
*Manjar Blanco/Dulce de Leche can also be bought at any store, jarred or in a can.

I have to admit that I love the books that have the Reading Level on the front.  I hate that I don't know what level every book is, but lets be honest, there are tons of books out there and more are coming out every day. With the level being printed on the cover, I know which ones are more appropriate for his reading level and that makes for a happy experience.
The set that we were sent was Level 1 and it included 6 books that covered the Avengers!  (We already have the set of books that follow Captain America, Thor and the others.)
The World of Reading Marvel Avengers Level 1 is set to be released on April 7, 2015.
The books included in this set include:
Ant-Man
Black Widow
Falcon
Hulk
Iron Man
Hawkeye

Personally, I enjoy these books more than some of the others that feature these characters.  Being that I do not know all of the background stories (nor do I know much about some of the characters)  it is great to have these books that give a little bit of the story of each of the characters.   Broxton enjoys them because we get to read and learn about the characters together.

Each night, part of Broxton's homework includes reading.   We have a great library, but to be honest, not so many girl books.  (When we normally get these, we share with friends or school.)  Now that we are expecting another baby and don't know what we are having yet, I am excited to be getting books that we can possibly keep to add to her library.  (If it is a girl!)  The thing I really like about these newest books is that they are "5 minute" books.  What does that mean?  It means, they are full of stories that take around 5 minutes to read.  Score one for bedtime!
5 Minute Disney Junior Stories:
Perfect for the little princess in your life (or prince if they like these characters)  we get to have a collection of stories featuring Doc McStuffins, Sofia the First and Minnie Mouse.
Contents:
Sofia the First- Once Upon a Princess
Doc McStuffins- Dark Knight
Sofia the First - The Buttercups
Minnie - Minnie's Bow-tique
Doc McStuffins - Doctoring the Doc
Sofia the First - Just One of the Princes
Doc McStuffins- Bronto Bruises
Sofia the First - The Amulet of Avalor
Minnie - Minnie's Pet Salon
Doc McStuffins- Dusty Bear
Sofia the First- The Princess Test
Minnie - Minnie-rella

For the pet lover in all kids, they have released  5 Minute Palace Pets Stories that follow the adventures of the pets of Princesses that we all know and love.  From Ariel to Tiana and several of the others.
Contents:
A Prancing Puppy for Cinderella
The Garden Party
A Bashful Bunny for Snow White
The Big Rescue
A Perfect Pony for Tiana
The Missing Musician
A Curious Kitten for Ariel
The Ocean Voyage
A Playful Panda for Mulan
The Great Market Chase
A Perfoming Puppy for Belle
The Shortcut

I love that they are both hardbound books.  They each have the padded covers that make them great for kids of all ages.  Both books are targeted for ages 3-5.

We love art time here, but I will be honest with you, my creativity has gone on strike or something, because it is hard to do things these days... That was what I thought was so neat when we were given the chance to review a cool stencil set from Super Cool Art.  We got it and it was all pretty neat...
We had a kit that contained all we needed for a fun day of art.  I went to post my review of it, but I could never get the site to come up.  I did not want to post a review and then not be able to tell you where to purchase, so I waited.
Today, I learned (just in time for Easter) that they have a pretty neat stencil set for Easter Eggs!    The website is up and going now, but it appears they have changed the products that they now offer.  So, instead of posting my original review, I have decided to highlight what they do offer.

Up first- The stencils.  We had the Night in Space Sheet.  Talk about lots of cool things to create on your blank canvas!
Besides the Night in Space, they also offer Day at the Zoo, Undersea Adventures, Fairies and More.  Head over to  see what all stencils they offer.

As I mentioned, they also have Egg Stencils for Easter.  These look pretty neat and make your Easter eggs a bit more creative versus the traditional way of just dunking them in the egg dye!

As much as we enjoy reading, I loved when a new to us book was recently delivered. The reason they stand out so much?  They are more "interactive" than other books... without all the technology that seems to suck kids in these days!  Wondering what I mean?  Well, to be honest, when I was sent the preview sheets, I thought it was some sort of app, but then the books arrived and it was cute to watch Broxton's face as we read each page.  You have to swipe your hand over the pages, clap so many times, press to places on the pages, all while using your imagination!!!

The books we were sent (very "hands on") involved popular Disney characters.
Shake to Assemble (The Avengers)
and
Do You Want to Build a Snowman (Frozen)

In the Frozen book we have to shake the book, point to places, cut down tree limbs and more...
All while helping Elsa and Anna build Olaf!  We even learn of Olaf's wonderful manners at the end when he thanks us for helping him.

In the Avengers book, we start with Hawkeye and have to work blowing pages, shaking pages and more to get the Avengers Assembled for their mission!   Broxton was very excited to do this one!

We really enjoyed both books and it was nice to have a "hands on" approach that was "interactive" without having the technology that so many depend on these days!  Both of these books are hardcover and will be released on March 31st!

In case you don't follow me on Instagram...
(If not, you should!)

Yes, we just announced that we are expecting a new addition to our family.  Our newest bundle of joy will be here in July.  Talk about a fast (and hot) summer.
We would love prayers for a healthy pregnancy, delivery and baby.

If you are looking for a cute book about love and friendship, look no further than the cutest new book from Parragon Books.  It is called Max and Tallulah and we get to watch as Max tries to get Tallulah's attention.  He does all sorts of things to try and get her attention, but the choices he makes aren't always the best.  In the end, he learns that being himself is all he ever needed to be!
We really enjoyed this book and the colors throughout are just so bright and cheerful!

As much as I love books, I love finding cute ones and giving them for all sorts of occasions. With Easter being around the corner, here are a couple new books that would make great additions to the family library!

Me and Our Mom is a Sofia the First book that takes place on Mothers Day.  Sofia is so excited to spend the day with just her mom, but her mom had plans including Amber and James!   Sofia was not very happy with this decision.  Sofia runs into her witch friend, Lucinda, and she casts a hex that would allow Sofia one on one time with her mom!  Read the book to see what all happens on this "magical" day!

Toby Braves the Bully is a book featuring Sheriff Callie.  In this book, Toby has been asked to show Bradley around.  Everywhere they go, Bradley is not being very nice and Toby keeps telling him " that's not nice" but finally he has enough.  Toby tells Bradley that he want's him to stop bullying him.  Grab the book to see what happens.

We thought the Sofia book was really cute, but the Sheriff Callie book left us wanting more. It was a very simple book and would be great for very young kids.  With a 6 year old, it was a bit to short and simple and he just did not get into it.
