Big Fun This Christmas! Collectors Edition!!! @LincolnLogsKNEX #MakingMyList

Christmas brings so many cool new toys for us to play with and so many great memories of playing, learning and building!  I love getting Broxton gifts that is not only exciting to play with, but also gifts that get that brain working!  Building and thinking, learning and laughing... Isn't that what childhood is about?
The product(s) featured in this review were provided free of cost to me by the manufacturer or representing PR agency for the sole purpose of product testing. Opinions expressed are my own and are NOT influenced by monetary compensation.

Broxton got a nice big box of Lincoln Logs for Christmas and he was in heaven.  He loved them and watching him play is so much fun!  He even was able to talk his Papa into getting on the ground and playing with him once!!!   Well, he is going to be in total shock this year!  Little does he know that he will be getting a Collectors Edition Homestead!  This is AWESOME!

The BIGGEST Lincoln Logs set ever created - over 330 parts, including real wood Lincoln Logs, just like you remember!  Includes a frontiersman figure, 2 horses and a buildable covered wagon that really moves.  Packaged in a beautiful, silver-accented tube for durable storage.  For ages 3+.  Suggested Retail Price is $99.99.

Of course I had to open it up and see what all was inside.  I hate when you purchase things that are packaged huge but are then almost empty.. that was not the case with this.  I actually put the bigger logs nice and neat in the bottom, stacked up.. then threw the other stuff on top.  I think when clean up is left to a 5 year old, he won't be so neat about it, so the little bit of room left over will quickly be filled!
I will point out the wagon on here...  (Please don't notice my roof coming off,  Ha ha ha ... I got sidetracked with the wagon and didn't realize I messed up the roof for the picture!)  Anyways, we have a couple sets... but have never had the wagon before, so when I saw this one with the horses, I was thrilled!  He is going to love it!
With Lincoln Logs, I love the history.. They were founded in 1916!  Besides that, it was a toy that MY DAD played with, so he passed the love to my son...   He loves them and I love that it is not just a toy, but it lets him build... and it lets his creativity shine!  He has used this to make different houses for battle with his soldiers, he and his daddy set up camp grounds and so much more!  As I said, its not just the toy that is the gift, it is the memories of playing with them!

Make sure to follow Lincoln Logs on Facebook!  They have some pretty great things going on over there!

A Pirates Night Before Christmas @SterlingBooks

I am not sure how or when Broxton got into enjoying Pirates, but he did ... and when he sees a pirate book, he loves to read them. So much that one day, Marc had to make a special trip... He had in his mind he wanted to buy Broxton a new pirate book, so they had to go to a book store and find the perfect one.  Now, Broxton has several pirate books and I am not ashamed to admit that when I read the books to him, I do notice I attempt (not very good) to sound like a pirate.

One Christmas we were sent a book to review called A Pirates Twelve Days of Christmas...    It was a cute book, so when I opened the mail and saw we had A Pirates Night Before Christmas from the same author, I knew we were going to be in for a treat!
With Sea Horses (instead of Reindeer) we had names like "Jolly" and "Roger" even "Salty" and "Scurvy"  It has the "Twas the Night before Christmas " feel, but all the way Pirate sure to make any little sea lover delight in reading this book!  I love the story.  I love the illustrations!  I really hope they make a new book for next year!

The website description:
'Twas the night before Christmas aboard the Black Sark,
Not a creature was stirrin', not even a shark!

Come aboard, young mateys, for a humorous, colorful, and thoroughly piratical retelling of "The Night Before Christmas!" On a ship of mischievous brigands—who have visions of treasure chests, not sugar plums, dancing in their heads—you wouldn't expect a visit from jolly St. Nick. Instead, here comes Sir Peggedy, with his peg leg and hook arm, cracking his whip and driving eight giant seahorses: Salty, Scurvy, Sinbad, Mollie, Cutthroat, Cross-Eyes, Roger, and Jolly. But even buccaneers can catch the holiday spirit …

Philip Yates's rollicking rhymes and SebastiĆ” Serra's sprightly, fun-filled pictures turn Clement C. Moore's Christmas perennial into a jubilant celebration.

The Night Before Christmas @SterlingBooks

The Night Before Christmas brings several traditions to our house.  I don't really remember any "traditions" growing up, just a routine we had each year...  We would go to my Mema and Grandaddy's house, then come home and do Christmas with my parents and brother.  The next day (Christmas) we would go to my Grandma's house and do Christmas with her.  Now that I am married and we don't live near home to go to those events, we have started making our own traditions. Broxton bakes cookies for Santa, we put out reindeer food for the reindeer and starting this year. we are going to read The Night Before Christmas.  It is going to be the last book in our Christmas Countdown of books....

We were sent a copy of The Night Before Christmas, you know it... the poem that many people can recite... Well, this book  is beautifully illustrated with detail to the magical touches that make this book and the whole spirit of Christmas a magical thing.  To the twinkle in Santa's eyes to the inviting colors of his suit, it makes me want to tell Santa a couple items on my Christmas list!   I do enjoy that the illustrations in this book are more like a painting and the crisp lines of an illustration aren't in here.  Although it is a colorful book, it isn't "cartoonish" like some tend to be!  I think that this book with the illustrations mentioned above would be a great one to give to a new family.  As a way to let your gift live year after year and for them to start a family tradition of their own!

VTech InnoTab #Giveaway ($109 arv)

Christmas wishes means a big "wish list" from a little 5 year old this year.  He is all about anything and everything he sees on infomercials.  That and if it is a toy, he thinks that is pretty neat and that he needs it.  No worry if it is feared towards girls, he thinks I need it so I can play too!  I love that he is so excited about the holidays and to be honest, I am excited to see what he is going to do when he sees what is under the tree this year!
The product(s) featured in this review were provided free of cost to me by the manufacturer or representing PR agency for the sole purpose of product testing. Opinions expressed are my own and are NOT influenced by monetary compensation.  VTech provided me with the information and a product for review purposes.  All thoughts are my own.

Yes!  Broxton will be getting the V-Tech InnoTab Max!  This is geared to "grow with your child" and it really is pretty awesome!  I had to take it out and check to see what all it offered and how it felt.  I think it is awesome that it has a front or rear facing camera... it rotates!   (He is really into taking video and photos these days.)  I also thought it was pretty impressive that it has a case built onto it for safety and get this... there is even a handle built into it as well!
I positioned it this way for the photo so you can see the way you can prop it to watch video or play games.  This is the case propping it up.   You can also see the camera at the top in the middle.
This is the back view of the V-Tech InnoTab Max.  As you can see, the handle at the top flips down for storage, or up for carrying.  There is a stylus to the right. On the bottom is a place for you to place a game cartridge.  They also added padding on the bottom so that if it is places on a table, it will not scratch the surface.

As I said, I had to check it out and it looks really user friendly.  I did enjoy knowing that you can log in with your account that you set up, but if they have friends over, they can log in as guest and not mess up any of the settings that were saved.  The touch screen capabilities and all of the apps make this great.  The fact that is is age appropriate and even comes with kid-safe wi-fi... It just puts it over the top!!!!

Reindeer on Strike? @SterlingBooks

Seems like everyone is going on strike, or asking for more money these days!   Even the reindeer at the North Pole think that things need to change!!   Guess the cookies and milk for Santa and the carrots and treats for the Reindeer just were no longer cutting it anymore!
The product(s) featured in this review were provided free of cost to me by the manufacturer or representing PR agency for the sole purpose of product testing. Opinions expressed are my own and are NOT influenced by monetary compensation.

So, what is the big deal this year?  Well... in The Great Reindeer Rebellion, we learn that all the reindeer told Santa that they were tired of pulling his sleigh and that they were all on strike until things changed.  Of course Santa was a bit worried, but then he realized it was a super special job to get to do that and make Christmas come true for boys and girls all over the world...  He then sent out his elves to place HELP WANTED posters for them to come and apply to pull Santa's sleigh... The animals turned up like crazy, excited to get to help in such a special event! (Not every day can you say you helped pull of Christmas!)    The only problem was that they just did not work.  The dogs smelled treats and went the wrong way, the cats got sidetracked by a mouse running around and the elephants?  Oh my... they were great.... until they made the roof cave in!  Just imagine, 8 elephants hanging out on your roof while Santa delivers the gifts!  What?!
You will need to read the book to see what ends up happening.. but as we all know, Christmas was saved and Santa was able to deliver presents.  (At least he made it to our house last year... what about yours?)

The holidays bring along lots of great times.  Not only the excitement of the weather (Hot chocolate anyone?)  But it is so much more...  for us, it is about making memories and of course, gifts!  Broxton is showing a big interest in all sports and not just in playing them.  He says he wants to play every single sport there is, but it is cute when he gets his toys out to start playing games in the house!

The product(s) featured in this review were provided free of cost to me by the manufacturer or representing PR agency for the sole purpose of product testing. Opinions expressed are my own and are NOT influenced by monetary compensation.

We have been able to review several products from the TeenyMates line.  They have all sorts of sports figures, like NBA, NHL and even NFL.  The part that really excited Broxton?  When they introduced the Lil' Troops!  As much as he is excited to get them, their newest release is what made MAMA happy!  They have now came up with a set!  It is in a collectors tin!  (Talk about making me for real happy!  He now has a place to store all of them!  Score one for organization!)

Tracks Collegiate Headset #Giveaway from @SOLREPUBLIC ($129 value) #MakingMyList

I can't hear it!  Turn it up!  That is too loud, turn it down!  That is what road trips used to sound like for me...  Broxton loved having his tablet on and playing his games... but Marc wanted to listen to music (I mean, there is only so much theme music to Angry Birds someone can take, right?)  So that was the cycle... Broxton wanted to hear his games, Marc wanted to hear music and me.. Well, I just wanted to sleep!  Hello, some of the best naps are in the car, at least for me that is how it goes!

The product(s) featured in this review were provided free of cost to me by the manufacturer or representing PR agency for the sole purpose of product testing. Opinions expressed are my own and are NOT influenced by monetary compensation.

I bought Broxton ear phones for the car trip, but he was never really a fan... After the newness wore off, he no longer wanted to wear them.  What that meant was back to hearing his games and I knew I wasn't wasting more money on ear phones...  (To be honest, the sound doesn't bother me.. I just tune it out.)   I was given an opportunity to review the collegiate collection of  on the ear headphones from Sol Republic and I fell in love with the ones representing my UGA Bulldogs!   I wanted them for me, since I enjoy listening to things on my computer while the boys are watching things on TV or playing video games.  I knew that this was the perfect answer for me.  Not to mention what  a nice gift to give myself!

When they arrived, I knew I was happy with my choice!  The bright red! The sharp Georgia Logo!   The sleek look and the ease of adjusting the ear piece to fit my big head... It was perfect.  Then, I saw the inside!  It said  "Hairy Dawg" and I knew that they went the extra mile to make sure that Georgia fans such as myself would be very please and proud to wear these anywhere!
I was very impressed with the quality of the sound, the way they felt on my ears and of course the look of them.  I guess I spoke about them a little too much, because on game day when we headed to Athens to watch the Bulldawgs play, look what Broxton decided to pack for him on the road trip!   He loved them and I think they went with his outfit, don't you agree?  He wore them pretty much the whole way to Athens and then on the way back home! I think he was pretty proud of how he looks, am I right?

Since returning from our road trip, there have been a few times when I have noticed that Broxton would go and get the headset for him to play on his tablet when I was watching a TV show or something.  I crack up now, since they are like gold around here!  My stepson who thinks he bleeds purple and gold and acts like he would rather be dead than wear any red and black was also busted with them on!  He even thought it was okay for him to take them to his room for him to use... I don't think so!  I don't get much, and my goodness these are staying mine! They must be pretty fantastic if he wanted them and they were clearly UGA all the way!  I am telling you...  If you are looking for a great gift idea this year, why not head on over to see what all teams they have represented!  I am sure you will find a school you love on there!   Not only will you be purchasing a beautiful (looking and sounding) headset, you will be put as number one of the gift giving list this year!

Now, you want to hear something pretty fantastic????

Sol Republic is going to give one of my readers a collegiate headset of their very own!  Just in time for the holidays!   Just enter the rafflecopter form below!

When, When, When Will It Be Christmas? @SterlingBooks

If you remember, we started the tradition of the book countdown as we start the month of December...  I mix in new and old books and each night we open one up to see the book inside.  I normally just have a big stack of books and he can pick whichever one he wants... but after reading the book, When, When, When will it be Christmas? I decided that I will number this one as first and it will kick off our book countdown!
Broxton is learning to read and the repetition of this book is a great way to help him out.
This book starts with red birdies and red berries...  looks like they are getting the decorating taken care of!   Then we see the white mice and not only are they decorating, they are also working on a cake!  "But when, when, when will it be Christmas? Soon, soon, soon."  As the pages turn, we see all of the excitement leading up to Christmas... with the Christmas play to follow!  But hurry up, get some sleep... it is Christmas Eve!

This was a cute one with lots of rhyming words and repetition.  Perfect for a new reader to work on and a great book to add to our Christmas countdown!

Did you keep a detailed baby journal?

Would you like for me to admit one of my first #MomFails?
Okay... I was all determined to be the best mom ever... and I was going to write in Broxton's baby book.  Documenting everything and making sure he had a fully filled out book, since I did not have one.  (Yes, I had a baby book - but many blank pages)  Well, lets say that he is 5 years old now and that baby book,  I am not even sure where it is now, but I know there are many a blank page in there too,  Probably more than in mine, since I got what I thought was the best baby book out there...
Looking back, I think I got the wrong one.
When I saw that Anne Geddes had a baby journal available, I wanted to check it out. Remember, everyone seems to be having babies... I wanted to see what this looked like for any gift giving idea's I might need.

As soon as you see the photo on the cover, you immediately notice a smile creeping over your face.  (At least that was what happened to mine!)

I love this book!
Of course, you get lots of the beautiful photo's that you come to expect from Anne Geddes... But the book itself?  Great.  It is simple without being boring.  You get to write details (that you will want to know and remember) without feeling like you have to write down a whole book each time you open it.  I loved how for each month it gives a page with the height/weight/ what makes you smile things like that...  and there are PLENTY of pages for photographs!  Lots and Lots of Photographs!

If you are looking for a great baby gift, make sure you check out the Baby Journal from Anne Geddes.  Hope you love it as much as I did!

Give more than a book. Give a Love of Reading!

With Christmas coming faster than I can think, I am really crunching down on what all gifts I need to still get.  As I have mentioned before, I love giving books and I think they are gifts that really keep on giving.  You give a book, but they get so much... They get to travel into the book and escape to the land between the pages. They (hopefully) get a love of reading.  They get books to learn and explore and loved ones also get precious snuggle time!

We were sent two new books to add to our library and one will be wrapped and added to our Christmas Countdown.  Jingle Paws by Margaret Wise Brown (you know, Goodnight Moon)  is the book I am talking about!  Just as our kids get excited for Santa to come and visit, bringing treats on Christmas Eve, this book lets us see the excitement in pets having their own "Santa"  A.K.A. "Jingle Paws" that arrives bearing goodies!    This was a cute book and I can not wait to see Broxton giggling as he reads it before bed!

The other book we received will be making a wonderful gift this year... Just having a hard time deciding which baby I want to introduce the love of reading to with the book Hello, Chick!  This book is a peek-a-boo adventure that has us turning the pages seeing all of the farm animals.  As we reach the last page, we get to see all of the animals on the farm!  This is a board book that will provide lots of smiles as the little one turns the pages and sees all of the babies on the farm!

Just in time for all the excitement of Disney's latest movie, Big Hero 6, we were sent another wonderfully illustrated book from Disney Publishing.  This book is called Hiro and Tadashi and it gives us a brief introduction to all of the characters we will meet in the movie.
As a parent that has seen the movie, I will say that the book really doesn't make sense... but if you have a younger kid (or if you are NOT like me in that I always point out when I notice things not making sense in moves / television shows.)
You might be wondering what I mean...
Well, in the movie (which we saw and it is a great one... lots of excitement and robots!  But remember, I warned you it is a tear-jerker)  we see Hiro going with his brother for the first time to the school and that is where he meets the team for the first time...   that is also where he learns that one of the guys he looks up to in the robotics world is actually a teacher there...  Well, this book is supposed to take place before the movie... but he already knows the team and the teacher.  (So that is what I meant about it not making sense...)
I will say that I read it to Broxton and he didn't even think about that, so maybe it is just me...
I would not let it deter you from getting it for a young reader.. Just wanted to give you a heads up!
I did love that this book shows Hiro and Tadashi and their brotherly bond.  It also shows that they choose to work TOGETHER to make things even more awesome.  Talk about a great bond and a good story!
I hope you plan on giving at least ONE book to someone you love this year, maybe this would be it!

Santa's Magic Toy Bag might be a family favorite for some of you, but for me it was a totally new movie to get to watch with Broxton.  I thought he would enjoy the puppetering of it all, but he really had nothing to do with it.  He was playing with his toys... and would watch this from time to time.   He did follow along with the storyline, but other than that.. He just really wasn't into it.  I believe that if this is a classic from your childhood, you will love the trip down memory lane.
Let me know if this is a movie you have watched before!

When I was in college I fell in love with the works of Anne Geddes.  I thought her photos were amazing and just how sweet are all those little babies???  Even now, whenever I am out and about and I see some of her works, I immediately smile and think about how precious those images are and then I wonder how long it took her to take these photos... I mean, she is dealing with little babies !
Now, it seems like everyone is having babies!  Marriage and babies, always seems to be the topic of conversation.  When I had the chance to review the books from Anne Geddes (beautiful photos and hard padded covers)  I was all excited.  Who am I to turn down looking at those babies????
The first book is This Little Baby.  It made me think of the "this little pig went to market" but it had adorable babies in a garden of different sorts.  I do think that the mushroom was my favorite shot.
The other book we were sent was Lullaby and Good Night.  Talk about sweet dreams!  This book is full of kisses and wiggles, kisses and lullabies.  To me, this makes me think of a great book for a grandma to give her grandbaby... Not sure why that hit me that way, but it was all I could think of as I turned each page.  What a great book to read and love and appreciate God's blessings!

If you happen to have any young ones on your list this year, make sure you check out the book line from Disney's Palace Pets.  They are all board books, but they are also touch and feel books so they are perfect for little hands that want to touch and explore everything around them!  We were sent two for review and I quickly noticed that they have ribbons on top that would make them great for carrying places!

The first Disney Palace Pets book we read was  Summer -  The Kitten for Rapunzel .  This book has Summer wandering through Rapunzel's village... We get to feel the cobblestone she walks on, the wood from a fruit cart and so much more!

The other Palace Pets book?  Teacup The Pup for Belle.  This has us chasing Teacup around the castle and she plays on all sorts of great types of material.  We get to feel the "Marble" steps, but we also get to feel silk and velvet, so it is great to introduce material that way!

Both of these are cute books and I know it will make a little girl super happy!  What better than cute pets PLUS the Princess?????
