I bought ONE bag... I knew if I had lots of candy early that we would eat it all before Halloween got here. I figured buy one now and if need be, buy more closer to time!

The Step-Tween Survival Guide - Book Review

Day 4 on the Hurry Up the Holidays List!!!!

The Step-Tween Survival Guide by Lisa Cohn and Debbie Glasser, PH.D. is just the type of book that I was trying to tell you that Free Spirit Publishing publishes.
I originally got it with the thought to give it to my stepsons, but once reading it....
I feel that this is more for a new step-family.

With that in mind, I want to tell you about this...
and then one lucky reader will win it for themselves!!!

The one thing I really did like in this is that there are 11 Chapters and with each chapter is a quiz. No, not a typical quiz to see if you were really paying attention, but a quiz to see what you would do if you were in the same situation. Speaking of situations...
It also has several sections that help to tell you what might work better, in the situation at hand.
Besides being a basic book that is text-book like, this one is broken down so that you can read as much, or as little, as you want at a time. They even put some sections in teal colored blocks, you know... a break in the basic black and white type!!!

I will tell you one thing that I had to point out to Marc...
There was a section in there are "I- Messages"
I really liked it and I think it will work for everyone... (not just step families, but all people)
Instead of having a discussion that starts with "You do blah blah blah... "
Change it to " I feel that when you do blah blah blah... "
That is getting your message out, but not automatically putting the blame on the other person.

This book has several great chapters, such as learning to deal with all the different feelings that a stepchild might have to the different rules that might occur. It even helps with steps to make your "new home" feel like "YOUR home."

Another key plus for me?
It has several sections written by kids ... This is a book for kids, from kids that have been in the same situation! (No, not the whole book... just sections "Stepkids Speak Out.")

They even include "Survival Tips" (hence the name!)
One survival tip I liked?
Talk with an adult you trust. You have plenty of emotions right now, talk and let it out... It is good for you... and just might make things better! :)

Last thing...
Besides all the other great features, they even include paragraphs called "Stepping Closer" that help you to get closer with your new family... Such as playing a sport with everyone... It does not involve lots of conversation, but you depend on your partner to help win the game... Play a game of basketball and have your stepbrother on your team versus your parent and stepparent...

This really is a good book to help with the transitions of being in a "step family."

Whish Body - Review

Hurry Up the Holidays - Day 3 !!!

Don't you like to be pampered?
Have you ever heard of Whish Body?

I have!!!
I was sent a couple things to review and I am so glad to be able to tell you about them!
With the holidays getting closer and closer, I want you to know of several companies that I am just learning about... and whish is one of them!!!

Whish was created by a wife "whishing" she had the same products available to her for shaving as her husband did... Without the smell! :)
Whish has several product lines that are sure to please and pamper anyone on your list!

I actually emailed to see if they had any scents that were not so feminine... and I was able to review (well, Marc too!) two of their products.

First: ( a less feminine scent)
The flawless ingrown hair serum.
You know I have told you before of Marc shaving his head.
He does get the occasional case of an ingrown hair...
He has not used it enough for me to notice anything...
Now, I have used it...
and I love it!
It is a clear lotion type... But I can not really notice any scent.
It is just a neutral scent to me.
(Julie, with whish, described it as a light cucumber scent... Maybe I am used to a stronger smell, so that is why I do not notice it... Still, I like it... So A+ from me!)

Flawless is: (from their site)
Our deliciously fresh smelling formula uses clinically proven active ingredients that restore your skin's suppleness and weakens hair follicles, inhibiting future growth. You won't need to kiss a frog to break the "bump" curse. Just a pump of Flawless healing gel will restore princess perfect skin.

The other item I was able to review:
Hold on... Before you tune out because it says Lavender...
It is not your typical lavender scent...
I really liked it and once again, just because it says Lavender...
Doesn't mean it is the blow your socks off lavender scent...
The thing I love about this is when I get a shower, I do not feel like I have to immediately put on lotion (as I do with those soaps that tend to dry my skin.)
I love the way it makes my skin feel refreshed and silky.
Good to go... and the scent helps relax me ...

Three Whishes: (from their site)
All Three Whishes products contain Organic Aloe, Organic Raspberry Butter, and Organic Shea Butter, enhancing life’s little desires three at a time. Enjoy lavender for its stress reducing and calm instilling aromatherapy properties.

I am glad I was able to review these products...
Just "whish" I could soak in the tub longer with this!!!!!
Head on over and see the scents they carry!
You can even sign up for their
WHISH LIST to stay up to date on what is going on...
and of course, Like them on facebook!!!!

Aloha Friday - # 57

Welcome to this week’s edition of Aloha Friday. In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too.

My question this week -
What show are you considering a must see right now?

My answer -
Raising Hope!
That show is soooo funny!
And of course, Hells Kitchen

Real Kids, Real Stories, Real Change - Book Review

Day Two of my Hurry Up the Holidays posts is going to be about a great book!!

Real Kids, Real Stories, Real Change by Garth Sundem is a book that I believe should be in all libraries!
This book takes everyday kids, from ALL over the world and tells their story and how they made a difference. In today's world, I think that the younger generation tends to think that their voices are small and will not make a difference, but with the help of this book, I think it might start to change.
This book takes us all over the world, from the USA to Vietnam... China to Pakistan...
There are no borders with the difference that young kids can make!
Some kids worked to make a change for their environment.
There are even kids who Stand up for Themselves, as well as help others.
(With all the bullying today, maybe this should be read in the classrooms!)
I especially liked the section talking about "KIDS OVERCOMING CHALLENGES."
(This section even tells the story of Alex's Lemonade stand...)
The final section of this book tells how children use their talents and creativity to make a difference...

Heck, it even made a difference in ME and I am not a child, I am just so proud of all of them!!!

Thanks again to FREE SPIRIT PUBLISHING for the chance to review this book!!!!
(I am telling you, everyone should check out this Publishing company! I am so honored to work with them in these reviews! Their books are meaningful!)

If you can, order one ... for your child...
and then another to donate to your library!
Other parents will thank you!!
(and kids will to!)

Hurry Up! Review & Giveaway

The Holidays are getting closer and closer!
Some may want the days leading up to them to "Hurry Up!"
So, with that in mind...
I want to kick things off with a pretty cool giveaway!!!!!!!
Hurry Up! The Dice Game is kicking things off for us...
Check back daily to see what is in store!!

Hurry Up! The Dice Game, by Random Line is a hit around here already!
True enough, Marc and I did not follow the directions, exactly as we were supposed to, but that was because I did not read them all the way!

In our defense, we just wanted to see how much fun it would be to prepare for when the boys are here again! (Note, it will be a big hit! I can see it already!!)

This game is super fun and as the name says...
Hurry Up!!!!

You have 6 die and 6 challenges...
One dice is blue... and that adds for lots of fun!!!
You only have 30 seconds to complete the challenge...
and you might think that 30 seconds is a long time, but in actuality, it is NOT as long as you need it for some challenge!!!!
You get points based on the challenges.. and you even can win a 2ND chance!

I can see this being a game that the boys will play for hours...
One - not really a way to "cheat" so they will actually have to play fair.
Two - rolling the dice makes a lot of noise, making Broxton laugh all the time!!!
Three- who doesn't like to play a fun game?
Four- the fact that it moves so fast is sure to be a hit here!

It is also small enough that you can pack it for a trip and not worry about it taking up room as other board games do. (Add that to the bonus reason we like it!)

I though I might give this to my mom for her to have when the boys visit, but this is actually a game I was able to get Marc to play! There is hope yet!!!

365 Diapers - Review

Before Broxton was born, we never really talked about diapers much...
I just figured we would just "go with it."
We actually got several brands as gifts, so I figured based on that...
We would decide then.
Marc had always used a certain brand with his other boys.. and they just did not cut it with me!
(Hey, he was deploying anyways... so I would be the one buying them!)

Well, I have one that I always use and I have not tried any other...
Until now...
I recently reviewed the brand new version of the 365 Everyday Value Baby Diaper.
I was unsure if I would like them or not...
and I was quite surprised.

I did like that they are solid white...
I liked that for if I wanted Broxton to wear light colored shorts/pants, it would not show a design through the material.
(That was a catch 22 though, because I also like the ones with pictures on them, as it makes them fun and more for little ones!)
I also liked the "accordion" fastener that seemed to keep the diaper a bit more of a close fit at the waist.

I had one accident with a dirty diaper, but that was in the first couple times of using it...
So, I am not sure if it was because I was not used to the way it wears or what...
but only one time...
We also had one leakage during naptime...
I do think that he wet more than normal, so I can not hold the diaper accountable for that.
That is okay with me!

I did not brave the experiment for an all nighter...
Even with our other brand...
There is only one that I use at night and although I thought about trying it...
I did not do it.

Would I buy these again?
It is according to the price for their package versus what we already buy...
Whole Foods is not that close to us either, so I would not make a special trip to get them.
But, if it was convenient and I needed them...

Yes, I would buy them, if Whole Foods was near us.
I am just not certain that they will replace my brand...
I do appreciate the opportunity to review and share this with you though! :)

In closing, I would like to share with you the information that was sent to me for review...
(This was part of their press release:)

The new line will continue to perform the essential diaper duties:

1. Protect against leaks. Protect us from pooptastrophe. Deliver us from evil. Guard our laps, couches and cribs from ruin, not just during the routine day to day, but during that 7-hour family road trip when there’s no rest stop in sight. With absorbency gel made from a non-toxic super absorbent polymer and the new accordion fastener that ensures a snug fit, 365 Everyday Value™ Baby Diapers keep your kids dry and happy, via natural means.

2. Baby bum preservation. A successful diaper must meet and exceed objective 1 while protecting the delicate skin of your baby’s bottom. Comfort is key and so is product make-up. Hello! Harsh chemicals can lead to allergic reactions and diaper rash and have no business being near kids’ sensitive skin. 365 Everyday Value™ Baby Diapers are made with chlorine free materials, are hypo-allergenic, latex free, and contain no perfumes or dyes making them a safer, healthier choice for your tot- and the environment. Speaking of…

3. Minimize environmental impact. Disposable diapers are a mom’s best friend and one of the Earth’s worst enemies. According to the Clean Air Council, Americans throw away 49 million diapers per day. (Holy crap!) Made from wood pulp fluff sourced from family-owned, sustainably managed forests and with significantly less material than traditional plastic diapers,365 Everyday Value™ Baby Diapers are responsibly produced and reduce the amount of waste that ends up in our landfills. Because they are chlorine, dye and latex free, these diapers are not only less likely to irritate your baby’s skin; they are less harmful to our soil and thus a more sustainable choice for on-the-go eco-conscious moms everywhere.
