It might be spring break, but that doesn't mean that the reading ends, or the learning for that matter! We were sent a really cool book from Sterling Publishing, ABC UNIVERSE and we could not wait to check it out!  (We already have the ABC ANIMALS  book, so we knew we would love this one as well!)  This was a really great book with lots of information.  As we read each page, Broxton was surprised to know that there was plenty of information he already knew.  I loved watching his face as he told me what he knew, then we would read about it! He does pay attention in class!!!
This is a sturdy board book that has great information on it, with photos to accompany the alphabetical word.  Some pages only have one word, others have two words.  Broxton took this as a book to read in the car and we already read it this morning too.
If you are interested in learning in a fun way, this is a great book for you!!
We will be sending this in to share with the class one day soon!

Building and playing are great ways for kids to have fun, learn and even express themselves.  When we were given the opportunity to review one of the kits from eitech, I knew that Broxton was going to be head over heels excited when I saw they had a motorcycle. I wish I could have recorded his face when he was given the chance to open and play with his new toy!
So excited with the motorcycle.
Opened the box to find lots and lots of little pieces!
No need to worry, it comes with all the tools needed to put together.
Daddy started working on putting it together.

The motorcycle kit we chose said it was for ages 8 and older.  This kit comes with over 270 pieces to construct one of 3 motorcycle options.  I am not sure who was more excited about the fact that you could make 1 or 3 motorcycle styles... as that was a pretty neat feature.
The only problem we had was that there were so many pieces and so little at times...  the space to build them was tiny and it did take some time.  Marc (and Broxton) got the base of the motorcycle built, but seeing that patience was nothing these guys were built with, it did not get finished.

I think that this would be a great gift to give someone that loves to build and is detail oriented. I know when Broxton is a bit older, he will love playing with this...  This would make a great gift to have to enjoy working on for a rainy day or a day when the pollen count is too high to go outside and enjoy!

Dealing with Death - Dragon Fire

Death is always a hard thing for me to talk about.  I know I get emotional for selfish reasons, but I can't help it.  When we have had to talk to Broxton about death in the past, it was hard for me to do, but I managed...  I love when you find books that can help with talks like that.
When we were sent the book, Dragon Fire, I knew that this would be great to have on hand for any future conversations.
In this book, we meet a family of Dragons... Mom, Dad and their two kids.
Dragon Fire puts a new spin on it, with them enjoying blowing their flames each night... it is their way to bond.  From breathing the farthest to who makes the most beautiful flame, they share this time together... Until mommy gets sick. She can no longer blow her flame and they vow not to do it without her.  She finally gets strength to blow a small one, but knows she can not go on.  She gathers her family for one last kiss, one last hug and she slips away...
Watch as the family handle her passing.
This story was written by a lady dealing with cancer.  This is a great story to help deal with loss and try and explain things.  I thought it was a different way to deal and a great way to read this and talk about death.

Skypony Press is already stocking our baby library!

As a huge book lover, I am always up for reading new books and sharing with you guys all that we get to review.  Broxton has a fantastic library and it will be great to pass down to his younger sibling when it makes its arrival this summer.  I did want to have a few books to go in the nursery that would be the babies books and not ones from Broxton as well, so when I received a few new books for review from Skyhorse Publishing, I knew two that were going to be for the baby and not Broxton... Check them out:

This board book is going to be a great book for our little one.  It is perfectly sized for little hands and I am not sure about you, but board books are great for little ones in my opinion. This is a book of colors featuring places and things in France. Talk about a great way to "travel" and learn at the same time!  We learn that the dancer has a RED dress.  The tower is GRAY and several other colors.  The illustrations are basic enough as to not over stimulate young ones, but is detailed enough to not be boring to kids of all ages.

Broxton loves to give gifts and he is such a sweet boy that he has no problem giving some of his toys as gifts. (It is according to what toys we are talking about, lets be honest!)  When I read Always There Bear, I knew this was a book I wanted Broxton to give the baby.  He has a teddy bear that he never really played with. It is an adorable bear that somehow got shoved to the bottom of the toy chest and then was put up with the other stuffed animals... it is is PERFECT condition and has no special meaning to him... so, after reading this book, I think it would be perfect for Broxton to give the baby that bear and this book as a welcome home gift.
Always there bear talks about a bear that is always there.  It starts with "Everyone needs a bear that is always there."  It then goes through different scenarios that a bear would be great for: "  A playdate with a friend at home bear."  or "A full of bounce from toes to head bear."
Each page has cute illustrations that are more like adorable sketches...  The illustrations show the fun you can have with your "always there bear."
I think this would make a great gift for a little one, along with a sweet bear for them to have as their always there bear.

If you are looking for a silly and fun book to read, then you want to check out The Mystery Hat.  In this book, we follow three friends as they have a fun day in the woods.  They stumble upon a hat that was left out there.. it is wet and has been lost / forgotten.  They think the hat looks familiar and they each tell a story of who they think the hat belongs to and why it is out there in the woods.  You will have to get the book to see who was right.
(It really is a cute story !)  I know when I surprise Broxton with this book for bed time one night soon, he is going to enjoy me reading it to him.

Having a child means that we have lots of "building toys" and he loves playing with them all the time.  We have all sorts of toys and I love that it is letting him use his mind to create... and it is away from technology.  We were sent a new (to us) toy for us to play with and build.

It is Kiditec and it really is kid friendly.  I loved that the pieces were big enough to be enjoyed by both he and I.... but they were not so big that they would be called "baby toys."  Lucky for us, it was easy to assemble a car and he thought it was the coolest thing, being able to build it pretty quickly!
His finished creation.

Large pieces, easy to hold and perfect for both kids and adults.

Love the face that was on the  product.

Watch the video to see how easy it is to put it all together:

If you are interested in purchasing any of the Kiditec sets, make sure you visit their online store and order a set or a few!

Mark down April 17th as a movie night!  Paul Blart is back in Mall Cop 2.  Did you see the first one?  Pretty funny!  When I was contacted about this giveaway, I had not seen any previews here, but now that I am getting ready to post this, Broxton has spotted the preview on TV and thinks it is hilarious and that he needs to go see it.  I loved seeing Kevin James on King of Queens and he has not let me down in any of his movie roles that I can think of...  So yes, we will be seeing this one too!

It’s a great plot line....After six years of keeping our malls safe, Paul Blart has earned a well-deserved vacation. He heads to Vegas with his teenage daughter before she heads off to college. But safety never takes a holiday and when duty calls, Blart answers.

To help get everyone excited about the new movie, I get to host a fun giveaway for one lucky winner!  The winner will win a shirt, a fanny pack and a temporary tattoo!   Talk about being a site walking in to see this movie!!!!

Talk about a cute book!   The Best Easter Egg Hunt Ever from Parragon is a cute book that has a totally different ending than what you think. In the book, an adorable little bunny heads out to go on an Easter egg hunt.  Mother Rabbit told her little bunny rabbit that there were "lots of eggs to find.  There are stripy eggs and spotted eggs, sky-blue eggs, pale pink eggs, and eggs as bright as buttercups!"  The eggs were all beautiful and little rabbit wanted to find the most special egg out there.   She looked everywhere, but ended up helping her smaller animal friends get the eggs they found.  Instead of filling her basket with eggs, she ends up filling it up with odds and ends... Feathers, flowers, sheeps wool and more!  You will have to get the book to see if rabbit ends up finding an egg or not.
Such a cute book and a great addition to read around Easter and throughout the year!

If you have a fan of bugs in your house, then I have the book for you!!!  We were recently sent the book, Bug Detective for review and let me tell you, I am so glad it is an illustrated book versus a photo book.  I can't hide that I am NOT a fan... and lucky for me, Broxton likes looking at them, but he isn't one to want to hold them or have them for pets.
Bug Detective is clearly a kids book, since the pages are all packed full of information.  I think the kids will like that all of the pages are covered with illustrations and information, adults will love that they are learning while having fun!
An added bonus is that on the cover of the book, they have taped a mini magnifying glass to help read the hints and discover facts!  I wish they would make it more noticeable though, I thought it was just part of the cover, but luckily in the letter that was sent to me, it pointed out the magnifying glass was indeed taped to the front.

See the magnifying glass taped to the cover?
Curious as to what bugs are covered inside?
If you are interested in
Beetles, Ladybugs, Worms, Centipedes, Snails, Stick Insects, Spiders, Butterflies, Flies, Bees and / or Ants, then you have a great book to check out!
As I said, each page is full of information and illustrations.
Let me know if this is a book that you and your kids will enjoy!
