It seems that poetry is great for kids and we got a colorfully covered book to check out.
The name of the book?  Sir Silly - The World Where Words Play.
The author?  David Dayan Fisher

This is a book that is full of words... lots and lots of words in silly poems sure to make you giggle and maybe even get a bit tongue tied trying to read them.  I will say,  I did notice myself reading and it seemed as though I was going faster and faster with each line...

The synopsis of this book says it "is all about making fun out of having fun - and sometimes being funny while doing so."    This book contains 31 poems and every couple of poems greets us with a cute little sketch!

Are you a fan of silly poems?

If you remember, some time ago I had the chance to review a journal from Journals Unlimited...  I was recently sent a new journal and I think this is pretty awesome, if I do say so myself!!! The latest?  It is "My Lifelong Journal of Firsts"  I think that this is a great journal to have to keep memories of your life, or for your kid...  I know a friend of mine documented every "first" that her baby did, but I will admit, I tried to do it but somewhere along the way, I stopped... Sure, we still have firsts going on, but I was not writing them down... Now, I can!
One main thing I like is that they make the journal on a spiral ring binding instead of a book.  This is great for me, as I can fold it to a single page when I am doing my entries and it makes it easier for me to write.  They give you plenty of space to write down in your entries, I think that is great, so if you have big handwriting, you are okay, or if you are like me and have a hard time writing in few words, you still have room to write it all out.  Another bonus?  They even have places that you can add a photo to remember the moment (or you can even use it as a scrapbooking area) If you are really creative, you could use it as a place to draw or write more memories.
This was pretty cool to me, it has a list of different firsts to get your mind racing on things you want to document.  On the actual pages, it has entry area's such as:
What I Did For The First Time
Who Share the Moment With Me
Why I Decided to Do It / How It Happened....

A couple final things that make this journal stand out from others:
Recycled Paper
Soy Based Ink
Hard Cover
and most important to us...
MADE IN THE USA!!!!

This would be a great journal to give a student headed off to college...
Or to a friend going on a trip...
Maybe you want to document your own personal adventure...
Whatever the case may be, write it down...
You will love to look back on it later.

How often do you go and get your eyes checked?  You know you should go yearly... but I will admit that I was not the best at doing so... Recently, I asked my eye doctor of a million years if they would let me buy a pair of contacts until I could get back to get my eyes examined... They quickly told me "NO!"  and I learned that it had been YEARS since I had last been seen.. I guess time really flies, because I though for sure I was right around the one year mark... I will not tell you how long they said it had been, but once they did... It all came back to me...  So, I knew it was LONG overdue and I scheduled an appointment at a local place near us...  I am glad I did, since I had been having major eye issues...
They were always dry and burning.  Come to find out, I have SEVERE dry eye and they put me on a few medications to try and get me straightened out...  We shall see...
In the meantime, they told me I needed to make sure that I was lubricating my eyes quite often, as in several times a day!
Now, I am not sure if you have looked around at all the eye care options... there are a million... Not to mention prices are all over the place...
I am a firm believer in quality being a key factor in names sticking around...
You know, the whole "Name you can trust" thing...

So, I was beyond thrilled when I was given the chance to work in reviewing Visine again.
I know I need to take better care of my eyes and now that Visine sent us a few bottles to try out, I can happily say that we have bottles here there and everywhere.
I actually have one sitting right beside where I do my blogging, another in the bedroom and also one in my purse.   I did  give one to Marc for him to use, since he also could use the help in keeping is eyes moisturized...
Think about this - with so many of us planning summer breaks of sorts, it would be nice to have a little eye relief.  This would be great to add moisture after a day in the car driving somewhere, really awesome to have after a day at the beach ... or even for those that are working and might be in front of the computer all day, we all need to treat our eyes better...
I have been using the Visine Totality and it really feels great on my eyes, giving relief to the long days - and sometimes long nights!

Read Along With Disney and Frozen

For the majority of the population, I am sure you have heard of the Disney Hit... Frozen.  You don't even have to have a kid to know this movie... When we were in the store, it was on the TV displays... When on facebook, you see all the you tube video's of people singing the different songs from the soundtrack....  So, there was no surprise when Disney Books started releasing books based on the popular movie!

One book is the Junior Novelization: Frozen.  This book is geared for the age range of 8-12.
I have not read this book, but I will say that it includes still images in the middle of the book from the movie, so you do get that... I have read mixed reviews on this book, so I am not really sure what to expect.  It is a bit of an older book for us, so I am not really sure if it will be read in our house.

In the book, A Sister More Like Me, you see a totally different spin on the movie...  At least that was how I saw it... I thought it was going to be another summary of Frozen, but this shows how the girls lived their lives. I did like how the first page introduces us to each sister and it says when the writing is neat and purple it is Elsa talking.. when it is pink and crowded, you know that it is coming from Anna.   I loved the illustration, but I did think that it gives a totally different view at how childhood was for the two girls.  I do think that this is one that will allow sisters to see that although they may be totally different, they can still be the best of friends!  This is for ages 6-8.

Do you have any Frozen Fans in your life?

Keepsake Book of Disney Classics

I love being able to read and share memories with Broxton... but I also think of great keepsake books for when he has kids... One that is new to us, but is for sure to be put up to pass along down the way?  The Walt Disney's Classic Storybook.  This is a hard back book (with the silver edged pages to give it a little bit of a classic feel)  is one that is sure to be a must have for all Disney lovers...

The classic stories in this book include:
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, The Adventures of Mr. Toad, Bambi, The Flying Car, Cinderella, The Ugly Duckling, Alice in Wonderland, Pluto Pup Goes to Sea, Peter Pan, Three Little Pigs, Lady, Old Yeller, Sleeping Beauty, Manni the Donkey, Donald Duck's Toy Sailboat, The Jungle Book and  Herbie the Love Bug.
Each story starts with a simple cover page with the name and an illustration... but as you turn the page, you are immediately taken back in time to your childhood and the memories flood....
There were a couple stories that I had no clue about or I honestly had no idea that they were from Disney... One new to me story?  The Flying Car...  I think (based on the title) that Broxton would really enjoy this, so we will be reading this at bedtime soon!!!

Do you agree that the Disney Classic Storybook would make a great keepsake book?

Read and Sing With Disney Books

A few new book releases from Disney Books for you to check out...
(Perfect addition to those of you planning a Disney Trip this summer!)

Image - Barnes and Noble
Read and Sing - Sleeping Beauty
Age Range - 6-8 and is available July 29th.
I thought when we got this book that it would be the entire story of Sleeping Beauty... but this was so much more ! It is broken down into six stories, right around 20 pages each.   Perfect for this age group!
The stories are Sleeping Beauty, Aurora's Royal Wedding, Aurora's Slumber Party, Aurora and the Helpful Dragon , Buttercup the Brave and finally A Moment to Remember.
Since this is a Read and Sing book, I am sure you want to know the song selections... They are from the original Sleeping Beauty soundtrack: Hail to the Princess Aurora, Do You Hear That / I Wonder and last but not least An Unusual Prince / Once Upon a Dream.

Image - Barnes and Noble
Age Range - 6- 8 and is also available July 29th.
Since I learned that Sleeping Beauty contained several stories, I wanted to see if that was the case with Tangled... Yep... There were six stories in there as well.  The stories in Tangled included Tangled, Rapunzel's Challenge, Rapunzel's Forest Friends, A Day to Remember, The Jewels of the Crown and Rapunzel's Royal Wedding.  The songs included in Tangled are: When Will My Life Begin, I've Got a Dream and I See the Light.

Both of these books would be great for the kids in your life.  I really appreciated that they were both hard back books.. With the inner pages being of a thicker quality for kids to read.  The illustrations on each page were great - one,  each page had an illustration on it... and two, the illustrations were of Disney quality.  I think that these books would be great to add to any kids library!

A Simple Idea to Empower Kids

FTC Compliant Review Policy:
The product(s) featured in this review were provided free of cost to me by the manufacturer or representing PR agency for the sole purpose of product testing. Opinions expressed are my own and are NOT influenced by monetary compensation.

As a parent, do you question that you are doing the right thing all the time?  I know that I do many times... even multiple times per day... I know that I tell him I love him a MILLION times a day and there is no question in that... but I want him to have FAITH in HIMSELF.   BELIEF to know who he is and to be strong in his understanding that he is so very special... I was sent the book, A Simple Idea to Empower Kids by Kathleen Boucher and I really loved the messages throughout all of the pages!
This is a soft cover book that features bright illustrations on one page and then text on the other...  I think that this is a great book that should be in ALL libraries.  Although it is geared for ages 3-12, I know that people of all ages might need a bit of encouragement and might need to hear these words to remember they too are special!

From the KSB Website:

Parents worry from the time their child is born and throughout his or her life, hoping they are doing all they can to empower their children and to nurture strong self-esteem.

Like every parent, Kathleen Boucher wanted her children to be happy and confident. For over twenty years she has been successful in teaching her children to follow three key principles: the powers of love, choice and belief. Wanting to share her "simple" approach, Boucher offers these basic, powerful ideas in A Simple Idea to Empower Kids for others to use with their children or grandchildren.

The book begins with
"Stop for a minute and listen.
Do you hear that?
It is your heart beating.
It is filled with love.
Love is the greatest force on Earth."

It continues...
"Can you keep a secret?
Promise me you won't tell?
From the beginning of time until the end of time there will only be one of you on Earth.
Only one!
This means you are very special exactly as you are right now."

Touching on topics like the laws of attraction, how to overcome bullying, and increasing self-confidence, the lessons the books impart are universally applicable to children--no matter where they come from, or what their station in life.

Children have a lot of pressure in todays' world to be the best they can be. Imagine if we could instill in our children's minds how unique and how perfect they are exactly as they are? What if we could have them spend a few minutes a minutes each day reading or being read to so that they end up with greater confidence, being inspired to follow their dreams regardless of what they look like on the outside or where they live.
In A Simple Idea to Empower Kids, children are taught the power of love, choice and belief so that they can learn to be, do and have whatever they can imagine.

"It's a manual for achieving your dreams," says Boucher. "It starts from the inside, and that's what I want to show kids--they have all of the power they need already. They just need to find it."

Children will enjoy the rhythm of the story and the vibrant illustrations, and will gently absorb the hidden messages that can empower them. They will want to share this story with their friends. What is wonderful about this story is not only what it can do for any child but also the messages that will rub off on the parents, grandparents, teachers, Sunday school teachers, librarians and caregivers who read it!

"My goal," Boucher shares, "has always been to do something that brought value to the entire world. John F. Kennedy had the right idea when he said 'Children are the world's most valuable resource and its best hope for the future.' Let us empower our kids to help them find their purpose and live their lives authentically doing something they love. Let us teach them early that they can do, be, or have anything they desire. The sky is the limit!"

Who is Your Hero?? @Supermanhoh

When I think of "Heroes" there are several come to mind...
Of course my husband is one: great husband, father, friend and the fact that he is an Army Soldier just puts him over the top.  To be honest, all military are pretty heroic in my opinion... but that is not what this post is about...
I do not think I have ever seen my dad in a t-shirt.  EVER.  So, I thought the other Hero in our life would be perfect to wear this!  Doesn't he just look like a Superman to you?
Today, I want to share one of the unsung heroes in my life.  My dad.
I was recently informed of a pretty cool website where you can share with the world the Hero in your life...   It is called the Superman Hall of Heroes and as soon as I saw this site, I immediately thought of my dad.    I know I have never shared this with you and I am not going to go into all the personal details.. but- Long story short... My dad is my hero... Why?  Because he did not have to be.
You see, my dad married my mom when I was 4 years old.  He not only chose to marry her... but he chose to include me as HIS DAUGHTER.  He adopted me.  From that moment on, he was my daddy... His family treats me like blood and that is all that matters... I am not any different from the rest of them.  (Okay, I didn't get the olive skin tone that comes with being Italian, but that is it.)
Growing up, I had the best life... and even now it just keeps getting better.  He has raised me right... He treats the boys great. He is a great father in law to Marc.
I am lucky to not only have him as a wonderful daddy to me...
I am SO BLESSED to have him as an amazing Papa to Broxton!
Broxton and Papa.
You might wonder why I immediately thought of him when I saw the site...
Well, as a kid, this awesome daddy of mine used to tie towels around his neck and mine... and we would run all over the house being "SUPER-MANNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"    So much so that when Broxton was born, Marc spotted a little super man out fit and he had to buy it for Broxton to have to be able to have the Superman memories with Papa.
Now, if you head over to the Superman Hall of Heroes site you have a couple different options to submit your hero.  There are packages ranging from $4.99 up to $49.99.   They even have a store for the Superman in your life... Ranging from t-shirts to water bottles and a couple styles of hats sure to make the Hero smile!
Some of the Superman Hall of Heroes Products for sale.
If you could share it with the world...
Who would you say was your hero???
Luckily for Broxton he has a few pretty awesome Heroes in his life!
I loved the gift box that your products arrive in!
I think that this would be a great gift idea (think Birthday or even Just because) for the Hero in your life!

Family Fun at @MyMainEvent #Alpharetta #EatBowlPlay

For any of you that are making vacation plans to come to Atlanta... or are planning an awesome staycation...  Head up 400 a few exits and check out the newest thing to Alpharetta... Main Event!

We were invited to attend the celebrations to prepare for their Grand Opening and we had a blast!!!  For those not sure what Main Event is, let me tell you... Bowling.  Arcade. Laser Tag. Ropes Course. Food. Drinks.  All in one place!   Working in a sports bar for years, I always look to see if there is somewhere to watch whatever sporting events are on TV and they have you covered!

One thing I liked? The big screens.  At one point, they had music playing in the bowling area and on the big screens they had the music video that went with the song playing.  I thought that was great.  They also had smaller screens that would show your score and the screens beside them also showed the music videos.  One bonus I really liked for the bowling?  You could pick the them you wanted to go with ... They had kid themes (we went with sports, although I totally forgot to take a picture of it.  I know, Blogger fail, but I honestly got caught up in the game... )  I did enjoy knowing that they also had the little ball guide / slide thing. I am not sure what it is called, but Broxton did use it from time to time to help him with his game.   Rumor has it that they will be ordering more soon, so that is a great thing!

Of course, after bowling, he was itching to get on the game floor... We played a little of this and a little of that.. I noticed they had an updated version of a game I played as a kid... This was where you had to whack the villian...  and he enjoyed it, but quickly made his way to other games!!!

Being a huge fan of Ford Mustangs, he spotted where he could race a Mustang and we went head to head on a fun racing game!  (No clue what he is looking at, I think the videographer was behind me recording, so he might have been checking that out... )   I enjoyed how most games had where you could move the seat up to let them have a better reach on the pedals, although I did notice on the Mario game he still could not reach, but they had where you could hit AUTO for kids unable to reach to still be able to play!
The games offered varied from Air Hockey to Basketball, Flight Simulator (He LOVED flying the helicopter) to the Typhoon game where you picked your roller coaster ride (I posted an Instagram video of that one!  He looked terrified, but he sure enough rode it over and over again!  It had like 11 "rides" to choose from  and he had a blast!)  They also had classics such as Pacman, connect four, wheel of fortune and so many more!  Many games come with winning tickets - we never made it into the ticket redemption area, but I did see it!

As I mentioned, we were there for the Grand Opening, so we were able to hear them talk about being happy to be in Georgia... and then they even presented The Boys and Girls Club with a check so that they could bring kids out to have fun!

It was pretty neat when they had all of the "big shots" grab a ball and a lane to bowl the ceremonial ball to open the lanes!

After the excitement of watching them cut the ribbon and "open" for business, we were treated to a great lunch that was so very tasty!  We had everything from cheese dip (their guacamole was awesome)  to fruit, shrimp to chicken skewers, macaroni and cheese and so very much more!  Broxton had a little of this and a little of that...   We both left full and ready to go back and order more !

Before we left, I did want to check out their Pizzaria.  It was calle la bella's and they are in a perfect location if you want to grab more of a "snack" option, or a soda.  FYI- their pizza is delicious and VERY filling.

Finally, I wanted to close with something sweet... If you are near here, you know it has been pretty warm lately... Nothing better than the delicious gelatto they offer!  We sampled a few flavors and I ended up going with the Sea Salt flavor... While Broxton enjoyed the chocolate. I do want to go back and try strawberry, but that day I just was not feeling it.
Let me know- are you a fan of bowling with the kids?

I can proudly say that the Little Free Library is NOW up and going at our local Harley Davidson dealership!  This past weekend, they had their monthly KIDS DAY and in doing so, we incorporated the library dedication on the same day!

If you are not familiar with the Little Free Library, you can read the posts I have done about it here, here and here.  While the weather was not the most inviting, we still had fun and I was happy to see a few kids heading out with a book from the newest library!

Kids Day started with an air mechanical bull---  Broxton was not a fan and then the rain started, so they had to turn it off and cover it up... But  -  they did have arts and crafts.... and free sno-cones!   How does anyone pass up a free sno-cone????

We were lucky to have a couple kids there that were eager to help fill the library up with all the books that had been donated!   Even the manager from Harley Davidson came out to help fill the library up!
The last remaining books were added to the library by a couple new friends !
Broxton has been SO PROUD of our library, so once all of the books were inside, he had to make sure it was just the way he thought it should be!  Of course, he had to be the one to finish it off and close the door!
Our fully stocked LITTLE FREE LIBRARY!
Remember, if you are near Lithia Springs, make sure you stop by and grab a book or leave a book for another child to enjoy! ( 501 Thornton Rd )
