When Broxton was around 3 or 4 he decided he wanted to play soccer.  He had never played before, obviously, and was eager to do so.  I am not sure why, but he wanted to, so we said yes.  At that point, we told him we would let him try out all the different sports he wanted to, on one condition. If he committed to play for a team, he had to play that whole season and if he did not like it, he could stop playing it once the season was over.
He played soccer that first season and while he had fun, he decided he wanted to try something else.  He did karate for a bit and I think we all just got a bit tired of that one.  Then, he decided to go out for baseball.  We were lucky to have an amazing group of coaches that first season of ball and I will ALWAYS refer to them as my baseball family.  No matter what team we end up cheering for, we ALWAYS cheer for our "kids" and I am so thankful that I met that group.  We have now moved on to basketball and hopefully will get back to baseball soon.

The bottom line is this, we let him try it all.  All that he wants, we will let him try.  No matter the end score of the game, we have always told him to get out there and do his best.  No matter who wins, we will always be proud of him, as long as he tries.  He is no Michael Jordan, but he does get out there and try and like I said, that is all we have asked of him.  We were recently sent a book for review and I had thought about saving it for Valentines because the title was Win or Lose, I love you but then I realized this was a perfect book for now!!!  It is a cute book that deals with a group of friends that decide to have a fun day of activities in the woods.  It reminded me of like a FIELD DAY for the forest friends.  They have problems with who wins and you have to read the story to see what ends up happening...   The bottom line, win or lose...  that is really not what matters!

We have really enjoyed this book, because of the message it sends out.  "Win or lose, one thing that's true... no matter what, I love you!" This is super cute and I think it is one that everyone will love!!! What sports have your children played

I am not sure if you are aware, but there is a football game being played this weekend that is sort of a big deal.  If you are not a football fan, you can still enjoy it because of all of the commercials sprinkled throughout the game.  I will be watching both the commercials and the game, what about you?  Some people go to the parties for neither the game nor the commercials, but they go for the spreads of food that many people have at their party.  What do you have planned to do for that fun Sunday event or is it just another day in your house?

As I said, one main thing is all of the food that people do for the big game.  I remember back when I worked in a sports bar.  We had amazing food that we served, but come this special Sunday, we had a sign up sheet and each person that was working would bring in food and we would have our own party with our treats throughout the game!  (Yes, we at the food from work too, but this was a special day, so we had to go all out in our spread of goodies as well!)
I wish I had known of the Kontos brand of breads back then, I could have had a great time making a few tasty treats.  I might not have known about them then, but I do now, so we will continue enjoying them from here on out!   I was sent a variety of the Kontos product line.  They have this that and every thing else.  I really enjoyed their Pita Bread, but Marc said he liked the nan best.  Broxton is a boy that doesn't like to explore foods, unless he is in the mood, so he would not try either.  (He normally inhales pita bread, so I know he would enjoy this!)  My favorite out of all we were sent though was the cocktail flatbread.  I am including a few ideas for how you can use the cocktail flatbread this weekend below.  They even have pizza crusts, so Broxton is in charge of dinner tonight!

Here are two of the products they offer:

One of the most popular in the Kontos line.  This flatbread resembles the classic nan baked by hanging the dough ball onto the walls of earthen tandoor ovens.  A most versatile oval flatbread that can expand your menu.  Featured in many Indian, Pakistan and Pan-Asian restaurants throughout the United States.  ‘Hand stretched for fluffiness™’, contains No Trans Fat, and is 100% Vegetarian.

These 2-inch pita disks are soft and flexible, extremely versatile, and Pre-Grilled for added visual appeal.  Use in the preparation of sliders, ideal for bruschetta, great with dips, and perfect for making hors d’oeuvre and appetizers. Contains No Trans Fat and is 100%

A few ideas from Chef Haralambatos, executive chef at Kontos:
Grilled Beef or Pork Tenderloin.  Place sliced strips of grilled beef, roasted pork tenderloin or pulled pork on the Cocktail Flatbread. Drizzle with gravy, steak sauce, BBQ sauce or horseradish mayonnaise. When using beef, try topping with your favorite slivered cheese. Garnish with dill or scallions.
Chicken or Tuna Salad.  Prepare chicken salad with tiny diced chicken, apples and walnuts. Or, prepare tuna salad with chopped celery or sweet corn. Dollop a teaspoonful of your salads on the Cocktail Flatbread. Garnish with sliced cherry tomato and fresh basil.
Smoked Salmon.  Layer small pieces or chunks of your favorite smoked salmon on Kontos Cocktail Flatbread. Top the salmon with sliced avocado, horseradish mayonnaise, slivered cucumber and/or picked ginger. Garnish with capers or a small dollop of Greek yogurt,  if desired.
Hamburger Slider.  Grill a small hamburger, or cheeseburger, and place between two Cocktail Flatbreads. Garnish with your favorite condiments, lettuce and sliced plum tomato.
Pizza Samplers.  Spread a teaspoonful of pizza sauce on each Cocktail Flatbread. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella or mixed shredded cheese; add pepperoni, sausage pieces, mushrooms if desired. Bake in oven or toaster oven for 5-7 minutes at 375⁰ degrees.

Out of all of the ideas mentioned above, which would you be most likely to make if you were to take a dish to a party for the Big Game?

Our Version of SNOW

If you remember, we had a bad time with ICE in a previous winter...
Well, ever since that disaster, Atlanta has tried to be cautious.  Some people (especially those further up North) like to make fun of us, but lets be honest... If you are not prepared for it, these "winter storms" can be pretty bad.  This year, they took no chance. Yes, it is funny, but I am NOT making fun.  I will always take the safe way when it involves my children!   My mom was here to visit and was planning on leaving Friday afternoon.  She was even going to surprise Broxton and have lunch with him at school.
I received 2 text messages (one from school, one from county)  I received 2 calls on my cell, (again city and county) I received a call on the home phone and then 4 emails.
School was going to be closing 2 hours early in preparation for the storm.  Yes, it was a bit excessive, but at least they were prepared and letting parents know in plenty of time.  I joked the next day that they were for sure not leaving anything up to go wrong.    Then, we received even more messages about bus riders, he doesn't even ride the bus, never has... so that was not needed... but again, rather safe than sorry.
I told my mom what was going on and that she might want to leave early to avoid traffic.  We ended up getting Broxton from school a bit earlier than planned so he could see her before she left.  She made it home and we were ready for the storm.  Oh, did I mention that I hadn't done my regular shopping, so I had to go do that with all the madness of people stocking up on break and milk ready to be stuck inside for a few weeks!  Anyways, we got home and were ready for the weather to come our way... Nothing happened.  Broxton's old preschool teacher always does these old wives tales in hopes for snow, so we decided to do them too:
Ice was flushed down the toilet.
Pajama's were worn backwards.
A white crayon was placed in the freezer.

As I was cleaning the kitchen that night, I thought I saw something out the window... I called for Broxton to come look and seeing his face light up with excitement with the flurries made it all worth while to try and get snow to head our way!!!
Savannah was not really sure what to think about the snow, she kept looking at it as it flew around and seemed to be in amazement with it all.

Hard to get a family picture when the boy wants to catch snow on his tongue and the girl wants to try and pull the snowflakes out of mama's hair!!!

He was so excited, he finally busted out the scooter to play outside in the middle of the snow.
It was just a few flurries, but it was so fun to him!!!!
The next morning, we had a verylittleamount of snow, but again, the excitement of a child makes it worth it all.  I brought a little inside for Savannah to check out while big brother was thinking about making a snow man.  FYI- snow man might have been a foot tall total had he tried to make it, but he decided to give up that idea and just play in it!

He wanted to know if he could bring some inside to keep in the freezer.  How do you say no?  Yep, we have 2 little snow balls / ice balls in the freezer as of this moment. (I think, they might be gone by now, not really sure.)

THIS is all the snow we got in our neighborhood.
School closed early the day before, all sports were cancelled for the morning and places did not open until 1 pm to let the snow melt.  I hate that we did not get more, but at the same time, I am glad everyone is safe.  I do wish we would have an actual winter this year, as I feel we were robbed of one.  Guess we will wait until next year.

How are you and the weather where you are?

Sharing the sibling love with Elmo's World

I may not remember much, but I do remember that Broxton loved Elmo when he was younger.  He loved him so much that his first birthday was "Elmo."  We would watch the show, sing the song...  you name it.  He loved Elmo so much that we would detour to the toy aisle to look at the Elmo dolls each trip to the store.  Yes, Maw-Maw and Papa bought him one so that we could bring the love home.  Being the big ALMOST 7 year old, we have outgrown Elmo days, but with a little sister around, Broxton keeps telling her about his favorites from when he was younger.

We were recently sent Elmo's World - Elmo Wonders on DVD and I have it put up for him to give his little sister for Valentines.  He is so good to her and keeps trying to find his old toys to pass down to her, so I know this will make both of them so very happy!  If he can hold her, he will even sit and watch "baby" shows with her and spend even more time bonding.

I love that they make cute "monsters" that you want to invite in your home.  I also love that it isn't just entertainment, it is educational as well!

Over two hours of fun, this wonderful compilation also features “Elmo’s World: Transportation” for the first time on DVD. As an added bonus segment, Elmo’s good friend Ernie joins the fun to sing the “I Wonder” song. Elmo’s World: Elmo Wonders will be priced to own for $14.98 SRP on DVD.

In Elmo’s World: Elmo Wonders, Elmo wonders all about the exciting and adventurous world around him. Sesame Street’s curious red monster takes preschoolers on a journey to learn all about the sky, weather, doctors, bicycles, jumping and many other things inquisitive little kids like yours ask questions about.

Are you a fan of Elmo?  Did seeing "Elmo's World" make the theme song pop in your head? (It did for me and now I can not stop singing it!!!  Elmo loves his goldfish... his crayon too!)

Can you believe that Valentines Day is almost here?  Seriously, I know that the days of the year don't change (nor do the hours and minutes in a day)... but good grief, it seems like time is flying by. Maybe because we are so busy that it seems that way?  I am not sure...
Anyways, you always hear about "the way to a man's heart is through his stomach" and other sayings like that...   Also, you hear about "love languages"  so my question to you is this...
What are your thoughts for Valentines this year?
You can go traditional and give chocolate and flowers, or you could take it even further.
Why not make a gift basket full of gifts from Trudeau?  No, I am not saying just give a bunch of kitchen gadgets and be done.  Give a great gift of gadgets and then make a night of it. Cook a nice meal, have a great bottle of wine.  Make it a joint night of excitement for the both of you!!!!!   Look below to see how you can make the most out of this Valentines.

I thought that these were great gift ideas.  You could use these all of the above products to have a great dinner!   (I think that the FLEX POT CLIPS are the coolest things ever!)  We have not used all of these products yet, but I tell you this... We were sent their mixing bowls and I am so in love with them.  I have used them on numerous occasions and I am not even a baker!
Mixing Bowls - Image Credit Trudeau

With the products that we have used, I am very impressed with the quality.  I think that these would make a great gift because of the style and quality.  As I said, you could totally make a gift that keeps on giving.  Maybe you enjoy cooking?  Make it a night where you have a cooking lesson?  Or you just make a fantastic meal.  If you have no desire to cook, you could do a great gift basket and include a gift card for a local restaurant for you to enjoy for Valentines.

Do you love kitchen gadgets?  What is one of your favorite gadgets you own?  Would you like the gift of the actual product or the meal that would be made?
