Where Do Pants Go? #RaisingAReader

Having a little one around means we have some silly times these days.  I know good and well that our house isn't the only one out there that has moments of silliness.  I have been known to see daddy (or big brother putting shoes on their hands or Savannah's tutu on her head.  It makes us all laugh and we say "no, that is not where that goes!"  Come on, admit it.. You have done it before too!  Well, the latest book for Savannah that we received does just that.

Where Do Pants Go is a cute book that follows many different kids getting dressed.  No, your pants don't go on your arms!  Silly goose, your jacket doesn't go on the dog!   It follows the kids getting dressed from their underwear to their jacket (no worries, no pictures of little naked kids running around!) As you turn the page, you get to see the little ones trying to get dressed on their own and you help them to put it on the right place.  I can't tell you how it ends, but it is super cute and I know Savannah will love us all reading it to her, time and time again!
This would be a fun book to give a little on to let them learn more about independence, you know they like to dress themselves!  Perfect to go under the tree this year!

Go ahead, tell me now... you have acted silly with your little ones before, right?

Be Who YOU are meant to be! Don't be one of the leaping lemmings #raisingareader

Do you follow the leader, or do you do your own thing?  I think there is a time and place for everything and in the book by John Briggs, this is a great message to share with people of all ages!   We were sent the book, Leaping Lemmings and I really enjoyed it.

FTC Compliant Review Policy:  The product(s) featured in this review were provided free of cost to me by the manufacturer or representing PR agency for the sole purpose of product testing. Opinions expressed are my own and are NOT influenced by monetary compensation.

Leaping Lemmings by John Briggs is a great book that tells you it is okay to be different. In this book, we meet a group of lemmings that do the same thing day after day.  Over and over again, they all conform to the same thing and no one ever changes... that is none of the lemmings except for Larry. He eats pizza when the rest eat moss, he dares to be different and in the end he helps the other lemmings realize it is okay to be who you are meant to be.
I thought that this was an awesome book.  Today, especially in elementary school, kids are trying to figure out who they are.  What they like and dislike.  They need to know it is okay to be who you are meant to be and while it might make you "different" there is nothing wrong with it.  It is wrong to be someone you aren't.
I loved it and I can not wait to share it with Broxton. I was trying to work on my book pile for our Countdown to Christmas, but I think we will go ahead and read this one now.

Like I asked in the beginning, do you follow the leader all the time, or do you dare to be YOU?

The Moon Inside - #RaisingAReader

Do you have a little one that is afraid of the dark?  If you do, then you might want to look at the book, The Moon Inside by Sandra Feder.  This is a cute book that talks about a little girl named Ella who is afraid of the dark, so she turns on all the lights in the house to erase the darkness at bedtime.

FTC Compliant Review Policy:  The product(s) featured in this review were provided free of cost to me by the manufacturer or representing PR agency for the sole purpose of product testing. Opinions expressed are my own and are NOT influenced by monetary compensation.

The Moon Inside by Sandra Feder is a book that we had to read the day it was delivered.  I mean, when a one year old walks over to you with a book and climbs in your lap, who are you to say NO? As much as I love reading and hope to pass that love on to both of my children, you know I am the last one that will say no to a book!  We read it and got to meet a sweet little girl named Ella who loves the color yellow and loves the sun, too! She and her mother sat outside to see the beauty in the nighttime sky.  In doing that, Ella learned to love the moon as much as she loved the sun! This was a cute book to us and we have already read it several times.
I loved the cute story in the book, but I also loved the illustrations,  As you turn each page, you see more of a painting than a cut and dry illustration.  I think for this story, it fits the book perfectly!  With Savannah being only one, we were able to also read the book just by making our own story up and seeing all the different objects in the book that were yellow.  I thought it was a great night time story for us and will be for years to come!
Do you know someone who loves the sun and isn't much of a fan of the night?  If so, you might want to try this book for them and let them see the beauty everywhere!

IHOP has so much going on right now...

It is so funny to me.  My mom and brother had a tradition of Ihop breakfast over the years and looks like I will be continuing on that tradition with my kids too!  Broxton loves Ihop and Savannah seems to like it as well, must be something about those pancakes!!!  Marc and I have made a few breakfast dates to go and enoy their menu when Broxton is in school, so when I heard about the latest things going on at our local Ihop, I knew we would need to go check it out!

Seasonal Flavor Pancakes:

Wafting scents of cinnamon, nutmeg and baked apples evoke fond memories of fall family traditions and time spent around bonfires, playing in leaf-filled backyards and picking pumpkins. Now, IHOP® Restaurants has reimagined these craveable seasonal tastes as Pumpkin Spice Pancakes and a first-of-its-kind culinary creation, Apple Ring Pancakes. The brand invites guests to make breakfast a new fall tradition and to “Eat Up Every MomentSM at IHOP with someone special. The playful phrase is a nod to the many life moments – big and small – that guests enjoy every day in IHOP restaurants as well the driving force behind the breakfast leader’s new advertising campaign.

Both pancake flavors will be available for a limited time at participating IHOP restaurants across the U.S.:

  • Pumpkin Spice Pancakes – A perennial IHOP fan favorite, Pumpkin Spice Pancakes bring back memories of hot pumpkin pie baking in the oven. This offer features three pancakes made with real pumpkin, cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg and crowned with creamy whipped topping.

  • NEW! Apple Ring Pancakes – Reminiscent of grandma’s best apple desserts, the new Apple Ring Pancakes feature three Silver Dollar Buttermilk pancakes with a Gala apple ring griddled inside, then topped with cinnamon sugar, creamy cinnamon apple butter and garnished with a grilled apple slice.

Apple Ring Pancakes and Pumpkin Spice Pancakes are available September 26 through November 13 at participating IHOP restaurants nationwide.

We had to go and check out the Seasonal Flavors of their pancakes.  I told Marc we each needed to get a different one, so that we could try them both out.  He has always been a fan of pumpkin, so we decided he woud get the pumpkin and I would get the apple.  They were both great, but honestly, I will be ordering the pumpkin ones from now on.  I did enjoy the toppings on the pancakes, but other than that, there was nothing much to them as far as flavor.  Yes, it basically says so in the description, but I was thinking it was going to be more. Maybe mix in applesauce, or diced up apples in the pancakes, not just the apple ring?  The pumpkin ones were amazing!  I think Marc knew I was going to go for his more, so he ate them first, while I was eating my eggs. Smart man there!
Let me know if you are a fan of Pancakes.  Which do you think you would like more? The apple or the pumpkin?

Strawberry Shortcake - Berry Hi-Tech Fashion

I had a Strawberry Shortcake party when I was a kid.  Hey, I even have my Strawberry Shortcake doll!  You would squeeze her and her breath would smell like Strawberries. I have not tried to see what it does now, to be honest I am a little scared!  Haaa!
Anyways, Strawberry Shortcake was popular when I was a child and that seems like ages ago. (I am really starting to feel my age based upon things in the media, but I mentally don't feel that old, am I alone on that?)  Well, check out the new DVD featuring Strawberry Shortcake and her friends.  She sure has grown up too, from my day!

The Rootlets - Trouble at Plantasy Land #RaisingAReader

Some books are just so cute that you can't help but laugh, right? We were sent book number 2 in a series, The Rootlets.  The Rootlets are four little kids that have superpowers that they are just now learning about. The kids, the Rootlets, are Carrotina, Brocc, Kaley and Cornelius.  (You know those names are just too cute!)

FTC Compliant Review Policy:  The product(s) featured in this review were provided free of cost to me by the manufacturer or representing PR agency for the sole purpose of product testing. Opinions expressed are my own and are NOT influenced by monetary compensation.

As I mentioned, this is book two. I am not sure what book one was about, but it doesn't seem to me that you need to read it in order to enjoy this cute story.  So, we are reading Trouble at Plantasy Land. Plantasy Land is a fun theme park that they are headed to for opening day, except they arrive to see that it is having a bit of trouble and nothing is the way it should be. The owner takes great pride in the place and everything is always perfect, this year everything is FAR FROM PERFECT!  They realize they need to help figure it out (and use their super powers they are just learning about) to try and save the place.  Read the book to see what they do!

I thought this was a cute story and while I was laughing at the names of the characters, I love the creativity of them as well.  I know Broxton will be laughing when he gets to read it too. Do you give books for gifts?

My Pancakes Taste Different Today #RaisingAReader

Do you talk to your kids about the world around them? I don't mean pointing out the birds and the trees, but explaining to them how the world works?  I don't do it as often as I should, but after reading My Pancakes Taste Different Today, I know we will be having a conversation soon.
FTC Compliant Review Policy:  The product(s) featured in this review were provided free of cost to me by the manufacturer or representing PR agency for the sole purpose of product testing. Opinions expressed are my own and are NOT influenced by monetary compensation.

I will tell you now that this isn't a book that I normally would pick out to read at the library, or one that I would run to the store to buy, but after reading it, it does make you want to start a bit of conversation.
In My Pancakes Taste Different Today, we meet Ethan.  He is excited to go out fishing, but first fills up on a big plate of pancakes made by his mom.  He thanks her for them and she explains that everyone around them had a part in making them taste so great. (I loved that, my grandaddy was a farmer and they don't get the recognition they deserve if you ask me.) Ethan heads out to fish and is having a great time.  I guess his parents never told him about littering, because next think you know he chunks trash into the pond.  (No worries here, we have talked about littering and how it is bad, to the point that is drives Broxton as mad as us when we see someone littering.)  Long story short, he makes a big mistake, the world suffers big consequences and then he tries to right his wrong.  You will need to buy the book to read all about it.  I did think it was a great way to explain how big of a deal a little littering can become.
I think that I might donate this book to Broxton's school so that more kids can read it and understand a little more how much can change with one decision.

Do you talk to your kids about littering?

The Doc is In... #DocMcStuffins - Toy Hospital #JBHolidayGuide16

Here we are, years later and Doc is still doing her thing, with a new wave of fans.  I am pretty sure as much as Savannah loves all of her stuffed animals, she will be taking care of them like Doc when she gets a little older!

The NEW Ghostbusters Movie is out. #BooitForward

I ain't afraid of no ghost.  That is right, our neighborhood has been being boo'd at let me tell you, it is quite exciting!   The latest was a fun boo'd kit that contained the latest Ghostbusters Movie!   We have boo'd several neighbors and to see Broxton excitedly running up and leaving the treats on doors has been so much fun.  Luckily, we got boo'd back.  I do wish more people would participate though.

As I said, we have boo'd several neighbors and it is nice to see when they participate and Boo it Forward... When the Ghostbusters Boo Kit arrived on our doorstep, I knew Broxton was going to be so excited.  He was and we immediately had to have a movie night to enjoy the movie.  He was so into the movie that he did not move at all while it was on.  (Normally he has to be doing other things while he watches a movie, this time he sat and watched it all!)
As for the movie, I loved it.  I was cracking up laughing the whole time.  Honestly, I was wishing that I had watched the original one more recently just to see any similarities.  (You do NOT need to have seen it to enjoy it, I just wanted to see what I could remember.)   I will say that it is not one to watch with the grandparents and kids if they are not into hearing any profanity.  I don't remember what all words they had, I don't think it had the F bomb in there, but they did use other ones.  I figure that Broxton has heard most of the "bad words" by now being in 2nd grade, so it isn't a big deal. Yes, he knows that they are words he isn't to use, so I don't cringe as much as I once did.
Chris Hemsworth was hilariously stupid and Kristen Wiig had me rolling when she was around him.  Of course, I love, love, LOVE Melissa McCarthy and she fits in perfectly in this whole thing.  Yes, I was a bit skeptical as to if they could pull this off, I mean, the original is a classic... but I think they did a great job of holding their own.  Broxton and I have already asked daddy when he will make it a movie night and watch it with us. (Looks like it is on the lineup for next week! )
Go ahead, buy a copy for yourself... and one for the neighbors.  Make a great basket of treats and BOO IT FORWARD!  Side note, our other neighbors just returned home to see we boo'd them and Marc said the kids were outside screaming and yelling all excited for the treat waiting on them.  See how easy it is to spread a little sunshine?
If you don't want to do candy, you can do a movie and popcorn.  Movie and sidewalk chalk... try and draw a ghost or two on their driveway too!   Make it fun!!!!!!!!!!
Have you been boo'd or do you plan to boo someone this year?

Here's Johnny!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you read my post about Carol Burnett, you know that my Nana and I watched many a classic TV show back in the day.  Johnny Carson is another oldie but goodie.  I know my parents love Johnny too, since my dad has several of his shows on VHS.  (Am I dating myself too much right now?)  Hey, they even had me saying "Here's Johnny!" as a kid... I am telling you... We LOVED some Ed and Johnny!   If you are / were a fan like we ARE, you want to take a look at several collections that are currently for sale.  Talk about an amazing gift to go under the tree this year!

Classic Carol - The Carol Burnett Show #JBHolidayGuide16

Growing up, I spent many nights with my Nana.  (I know I am not the only one to have a special bond with a grandparent.)  We had many good times and even now that she has been gone for getting close to 20 years, I can still bring up vivid memories of her like it was yesterday.  One memory? Watching her favorite TV shows. My Nana was cool before I even knew what cool was!  She had 2 TVs in her living room, since her "stories" came on at the same time and she had to watch and know what was going on.  (Long before Sports bars were putting multiple TVs out for your viewing pleasure!)  Looking back,I guess I never had a bedtime at her house, because we would be up late watching shows until who knows what time.  One of her favorite shows?  The Carol Burnett Show. Now that was a classic and for all of us Carol Burnett fans, we can now own a Collectors Edition of THE LOST EPISODES.  I can only imagine how hilarious those are!
I have my fingers crossed that this will arrive for me under the tree this holiday season!  What are you hoping to be under your tree this year?

Car Seat Safety

Just thought I would share this.
We can never be too careful with our precious cargo!

Car Seat Safety Tips:
  • Find a car seat that fits your child. As children grow, how they sit in your car will change. Make sure the car seat you purchase is designed to fit your child’s current size and age.
  • Not all car seats fit in all vehicles so test the car seat you plan to buy to make sure it fits well in your vehicle.
  • Before putting your child in a car seat, read the manufacturer’s instructions so you know how your car seat works.
  • All-in-One car seats offer you the advantage of using the same seat for the following positions: rear-facing, forward-facing with harness, then booster. These seats typically have higher height and weight limits for the rear-facing position, allowing you to keep your child rear-facing for a longer period of time.
  • Remember, the best car seat is the one that fits your child properly, is easy to use, and fits in your vehicle correctly. The information here can help you choose the right seat for your child. Keep in mind that:
    • Your child under age 1 should always ride in a rear-facing car seat.
    • Children ages 1-3 should be kept rear-facing as long as possible.
    • Keep your child in the back seat at least through age 12.
    • Be certain you've installed your car seat correctly by having it checked at an inspection station or by a certified child passenger safety technician. Bring the Car Seat Instructions AND the Vehicle Owner’s Manual with you to a seat check appointment!
