As we all know, I love PBS.  The shows on there are great for all of us and I fell in love with them all over again when Broxton was born. The kids programming is not only fun for them to watch, it is also educational and for a mama, that makes my heart happy!  We loved the children's programs throughout the early years of Broxton's life, but when you are 6 going on 21, you seem to say " I don't want to watch those BABY shows anymore!" Having turned the corner on those shows, we are now coming back around since we have Savannah.  No, I don't plop her in front of the tv or anything like that, but as I mentioned, we love background noise here, so we have been known to turn the tv on to have the noise.  It is sweet when Broxton comes in and sees his sister has her attention to whatever is on TV and instead of complaining, he will sit there and watch with her, telling her what is going on.  Be still my heart!  I hope that this love stays like that forever and ever!   She has a great big brother in him and his love for her melts my heart daily!

As much as we love PBS, they don't have kids programming on 24/7.  (No complaints here, as I love getting to watch Downton Abbey!) The times that they don't have a kids show on and I need one for background noise, we now have the opportunity to throw in a DVD. We are working on getting a DVD collection for her like Broxotn used to have, so I was excited to see that PBS is releasing 2 just in time for Valentines day.  Savannah will not be getting a box of chocolates, but she will still get a Valentines Day treat!

She will be getting:
Daniel Tigers Neighborhood - Would You Be Mine?
WOULD YOU BE MINE?” features eight stories including “It’s Love Day!” and “Daniel’s Love Day Surprise.” In “It’s Love Day,” Daniel makes special heart cards to bring to school and hand out. While at school, some of the kids explain how they like to say “I love you” to their friends and family – Prince Wednesday likes to sing, and Miss Elaina likes to give hugs. In the story “Daniel’s Love Day Surprise,” Daniel helps his mom make a special heart-shaped pizza and finds a way to show Grandp√®re how much he loves him by setting up a special treasure hunt just for him featuring sparkling purple hearts.
The other stories included on this DVD are “Daniel and Miss Elaina Play Rocketship,” “Daniel Plays at the Castle,” “Friends Help Each Other,” “Daniel Helps O Tell a Story,”
“Margaret’s First Chime Time,” and “Tiger Family Fun.” One of the key ingredients that sets this series apart is its groundbreaking use of catchy musical strategies grounded in Fred Rogers’ landmark social-emotional curriculum that reinforce each theme and that preschoolers and parents both sing – and use – together in their daily lives. Some of the strategies kids will learn from the stories on this DVD include “find your own way to say, I love you” and “friends help each other, yes they do, it’s true.”
Word World - Be My Valentine
This new DVD includes five stories, two of which are Valentine’s Day themed. “My Fuzzy Valentine” features Sheep working to create a valentine song for her best friend Bear. Unfortunately she has trouble finding just the right rhyme to finish her song. With help from Fly, she uncovers the perfect rhyme and makes Bear a valentine with real heart. In “Love, Bug,” Bug wants to sign a valentine for his favorite WordFriend, but doesn’t know how to write his name. With lots of encouragement from Frog he learns that with a little practice he can write his name and give his valentine.
In addition to these two great stories, this DVD also includes “Sh-Sh-Shark,” “Princess Sheep” and “There’s an Ant in Every Giant.” WORDWORLD demonstrates the connections between letters, sounds, words, and meaning in order to empower children to advance from learning letters to learning how to read. Some of the words kids will learn by watching this DVD include heart, bug, shoe and crown.

What gifts do you give you Valentine?

This past weekend, we had a great time celebrating the re-release of Kung Fu Panda 1 & 2 in anticipation of Kung Fu Panda 3.  Working with Fox Home Entertainment Insiders, we were sent a great package full of items to make this a great night...

Broxton could not remember what happened in Kung Fu Panda 2, so he was excited to see it again.  (He loved the first one so much that he named his stuffed panda from the zoo, Po.)  We made a day out of it and had snacks and all sorts of goodies to get the party started.  Perfect to do on a cold winter day!  Yes, it is finally getting cold here, even though it was in the 70's over Christmas Break.
Broxton was enjoying his snacks with Po.  Yes, his hair is getting long, but he says he wants to grow it out until it gets warm outside again.  Can't you tell Po is excited to see himself on the big screen?

Yummy snacks on our Kung Fu Panda accessories.

Even Savannah was trying to find her inner Sensei while watching the movie!  She managed to get Po down a few times!

The funniest part of the day was when we decided to all put on the different masks!  We were cracking up with Savannah wearing hers!  She just looked at us like we were crazy when we had ours on and didn't even flinch when we put one on her.  You know she looks hysterical in hers!
Since it was such a fun day for us as we had movie night (during the day) I get to share the chance to have one reader win a copy of Kung Fu Panda 1 & 2 on DVD.  Make sure to enter on the rafflecopter form below!

Are you one that makes New Years Resolutions?  I have never been one to do so, because lets be honest here, if I want to do something I will do it then, not wait until the New Year to start. I know that might not be the best attitude, but it is the truth.  Yes, I say I want to lose weight. I want to eat healthy.  I want to be a better me...  but it didn't start because of January 1st. It happened because I want to be around for me...  to see my children have children.  To see what they become.  Maybe that is selfish, but it is true.  Actually maybe I did make "resolutions" but I like to word it different.  I started a "new chapter in my life."  Nothing really changed, but I told my husband that we do need to eat better... and we need to drink more water...  I didn't say to start on January 1st, but looking back, I can use it as a kick off point to make myself more responsible for my actions!   No, I am not going to go all health nut crazy (although I wish I could... but lets start with baby steps people!)  and throw out junk food, buying all organic vegetarian options...  But I can make healthier choices.
I like apples, I can choose apple slices over a slice of apple pie (with ice cream and whipped cream too!)  I can choose to add more vegetables versus meat on my sandwich.  I can also choose to visit Sprouts Farmers Market versus a fast food restaurant.  What I am saying is I can choose to change my habits to see a better end result.

My reason to try and be healthier.

The reason I paint my thumbnail @DuriCosmetics

I will be the first to tell you that I am not a "girly girl."  I do not wear makeup (except for special occasions) and I don't wear dresses.  There is nothing wrong with that, just like I think there is nothing wrong with me NOT wanting to do the same.  Don't get me wrong, I used to wear makeup all the time and I used to get my nails done ALL THE TIME...   Just not these days.  I do love a nice pedicure and I love to be pampered...  but that is not the point of this blog post.  I wanted to tell you about WHY I only paint one of my fingernails.
I received a collection of different colored nail polish from duri cosmetics for review.  I just loved the colors as they are not the "normal" colors that I would pick when getting a pedicure. Actually, one of the bottles SCREAMED the name of a loved one, so you can guess what was in her gift bag of goodies last time I saw her!  (For the record, it was the Live It Up! Color... Beautiful, but more of a shade for her than for me.) Anyways, I was trying to decide what color I wanted to use first (pedicures are great for trying different colors and for relaxing!)  I decided to go with the Feeling Beautiful color, it is a nice rose color and perfect for someone like me that is just now staring to fall in love with the pink tones these days.   As I was riding along, I started noticing car tags and one stood out to me.
Psalm 150 - I will admit that I am not one to know scripture, so as soon as I could, I googled to see what that scripture said.  Praise  ye the Lord!
So, why paint one nail?
I know that I am a Christian.  I know that I believe in God and I try to live a good life.  I also know that I am a sinner ... and I know that I fail daily.  I painted my nail, my thumbnail, as a reminder of me that I am forgiven and to Praise the Lord. In the good and the bad, through it all, His love never fails and I need to remember to not only pray daily, but also to sing his praises!   Also, the nail is not painted perfectly.  It is chipped and that is fine by me.(It seems to be holding up well, it is chipped because I did not paint it all the way to the tip.) It just goes to show that nothing is perfect and I am a perfect example!   I will tell you this, I have painted just my thumb for a couple weeks now and I have noticed that I pray more.  (It is sad to admit, but so very true.)  If I am in carpool and look down at my thumb, I say a quick Praise the Lord and sing his praises.  If I am at home watching TV and look down at my thumb, I Praise the Lord and say a quick prayer for friends and family.
Yes, I might look weird, but it is something to help me on my daily journey.

So, that is why I paint my nail.
On the other hand, (no pun intended) I do love the colors and the names!  Yes, I used to pick out the colors based upon the name when at the salon.  If you are looking for a great gift (Valentines is coming up.)  You could buy an assortment of the duri colors and give a gift card for a mani/pedi.  I know I would love it!

Teething Baby? Try the @munchmitt

Time sure flies when you have little ones, doesn't it?  I don't remember when it was that Broxton started teething, but it seems like Savannah was teething when she turned 2 months old.  At 5 months now, I would think she was about to bust out a whole set of teeth with the amount of drool and gnawing on things that she does, but no teeth yet.  I am serious, when does it start?  Seems like it is too early for that, but here we are!

Anyways, with teething comes all the gnawing and trying to put everything into their mouth. I was excited to get the chance for us to review the MUNCH MITT aka baby teething mitten.  I knew with the chunky plastic end and the bumps all over it that it would be PERFECT for my munching little one.  The only problem?  She had a small mouth and it did not really seem to work.
Oh, let me back up.  The Munch Mitt is a mitten that has a chunky plastic tip.  (Like where the fingers would be.)  It also has that crunchy material inside it that makes the sound babies love.  Add to it that it has Velcro on the wrist and now you see what we had.  As I said, it seemed like she was teething too early, so it did not work.  (I give honest reviews, so I was ready to let you know.)  Then, life happened and the blog was pushed to the side for a bit, you know... mommy moments that I would rather enjoy!!!
Well, after that, we pulled the Munch Mitt back out and let me tell you, she loves that thing.  She still isn't a fan of it being on her hand.. but we lay it on the floor when she is down there and she grabs it and has a blast chewing on it.  I have even put it on my fingers when I am holding her and she seems to really enjoy that too.  I believe as she gets a bit older / bigger, the mitt will fit better and I can see her using this the correct way as time goes on. This is perfect for travel, as once it is on their hand, I see it hard to get off (dropped)  and it would be great for car trips!!!!

Every now and then she will let me put it on her hand, but more than not we just let her chomp on it as a toy.  I love that they offer a few different colors and it also comes with a little bag to put it in.  Perfect for travel as well as when it is time to do laundry!
What tricks do you have for a teething baby?
