The February @LootCrate was #BUILD - perfect for an 8 year old birthday gift!

The month of February brought much fun here.  We had a 21st birthday, an 8th birthday, Valentines and even a trip to New Orleans for Mardi Gras.  The 8 year old is into building things (still, thank goodness) so when I opened up the February Loot Crate, I knew it was going to be a great gift!  Oh, lets not forget that you can turn this months box into a Robot!!!  Score, yet again!

Who would think that plain box would open up to be turned into something super cool and that it would hold so many awesome things????

If you follow me on Instagram, you know that the shirt was immediately worn. He loved it and had to wear it that night for part of his pajamas!  While I know I said this box was for him, I totally took the Tetris magnet and claimed them for me!  Hey, he probably has no clue about Tetris, so fair game!!!
The BUILD themed Loot Crate contained one of the shirts that we come to get most excited about. This one? Power Rangers!!!!  A big score for the cool mom points?  The Lego Dimensions set in there.  He is still Lego crazed, so this was awesome!
We have a bag that we pin all the Loot Pins on.  This one looks pretty cool to me, so we hurridly placed it on the bag for display for all to see.  I love that they are quality pins and not just some cheap "filler" item to put in each month.

Besides the monthly magazine that comes in, the final item in our crate was this.  How about it is a BATMAN food container.  Perfect to carry your soup or salad or goldfish crackers or whatever you want.  I had planned to send it to school with Broxton, but he has enough distractions at lunch. (He talks a bit too much, just like his mama!)  Instead, Savannah has sort of claimed it as her buddy.  I was going to let it hold her snacks, but she seems to like feeding Batman right now, so that works for us!
A subscription to Loot Crate would make an amazing Easter gift for the older ones this year.  They always seem to have such cool products.  Just head over to Loot Crate to see what plan works best for you!!!

Isabella - Girl on the Go #RaisingAReader

In keeping with wanting to share books for Reading Awareness Month, I thought it would be great to share another of the Isabella books that I have fallen in love with.  If you have a little girl in your life, this is an amazing book that I think all little girls should have!

The "Isabella" series of books is one I fell in love with when I read Isabella - Girl In Charge.  I was not really sure what to expect, but I fell in love at first read!  I am thrilled to get to share with you today, Isabella - Girl On The Go.  Savannah loves these books and will grab them and bring them for me to read to her.  (Broxton even sits down and listens when I read these.  They are really great!)
As a mom to an 8 year old boy, I know all parents are familiar with hearing " I am NOT a LITTLE boy / girl." come out of the mouth of their sweet angels at some point. Am I right?  As soon as you read this, you might be thinking, well, here we go with the sass...but it is far from it.  Isabella IS a girl on a mission.  A girl in charge and a very smart one at that!!!  As you can tell by dads response, he is all to familiar with the imagination of his little one.  He says, " Then who is going to help me today? " and just like that ... we are off on an adventure!!!
In Girl on the Go, we get to see her be an archaeologist, a warrior and even a Queen!!!!

I don't want to ruin the book for you, so you have to get a copy to see how it ends.  It really is a cute book and I love the spin she puts on every day life being an adventure (and one you learn on as well!) A great thing about these books, besides the book in general?  The ending.  The author ends the book with key facts that are hinted on in the book.  With Girl on the Go, the end of the book has "places that changed the world" and "structures that amaze and inspire."  Each has a small paragraph and a photo to show the reader.

Are you familiar with the Isabella books?  The author is Jennifer Fosberry and the illustrator is Mike Litwin.  They are perfect additions in our library.  I am excited that we have them and I hope that years from now, Savannah can share them with her daughters!!!

6 Unexpected Infused Water Ideas for Gorgeous Skin

I know most people enjoy drinking water, but I do know for some it is a struggle.  I thought I would share a few water ideas for you to enjoy.  Do you drink plain water or do you like to infuse it as well?
This is a guest post.

While most dermatologists and doctors preach the benefits of drinking more water, water gets boring. Perhaps you’ve done just about everything to make your plain glass of water more enjoyable. If you’re running out of ideas and are tempted to reach for a caffeinated beverage you’re not alone. We talked to the experts who gave us six fresh infused water recipes that’ll pack a punch of flavor and add health and beauty benefits to your H2O! If you’re new to infused water it’s easy. Chop up the ingredients, let them sit over night in your water pitcher and sip your way to healthy hydration inside and out.

1. Mango Ginger
This combo might seem weird, but adding the health benefits of ginger and the antioxidant power of mangoes is a surprisingly tasty mix! “Mangoes contain so many vitamins that help boost your immune system. It has antioxidants that maintain youthful glowing skin and aid in the production of blood cells,” says Dr. Christopher Calapai D.O. an anti-aging expert and long-time health advisor to the New York Rangers hockey team.  “Ginger is also helpful in fighting infection, has been linked to lower cholesterol levels, may reduce muscle aches, and helps digestion,” adds Dr. Calapai.

2. Grapefruit Rosemary
Recently rosemary was found to be the main ingredient eaten by residents of an Italian village with one of the highest populations of people who live past 100! “Rosemary improves circulation and sends more blood to the brain which is linked to greater concentration and potentially reduces risk of Alzheimer’s,” says Dr. Calapai. Grapefruit is not only delicious but it’s a natural fat burner, boosts metabolism and cleanses your liver.

3. Melon Mix
Cut up watermelon, honeydew and cantaloupe chunks and throw into your water over night. “This melon variety tastes great and is amazing for your skin,” says Dr. Kally Papantoniou board certified dermatologist and clinical instructor at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York. “Melons are immensely hydrating, meaning more hydration per cup of water. They are also chock-full of antioxidants that keep skin clear plus they contain vitamins that promote collagen production which helps skin cell turnover.”

 4. Citrus Mint
Pick your favorite citrus fruits, cut up into slices and add some crushed mint.  “Adding mint to your water is not only extra refreshing but also improves digestive health and can speed up your metabolism,” says Dr. Calapai. “Mint actually contains salicylic acid, a potent acne fighter,” says Dr. Papantoniou. “It’s also well known for it’s anti-inflammatory properties which work to calm irritation both on your skin or internally,” she adds.

5. Cucumber Lavender
“The reason so many spas use cucumber based treatments is because it contains many skin friendly minerals like magnesium, potassium and silicon,” says Dr. Papantoniou. “This mix is especially healthy,” says Dr. Calapai “Cucumbers are powerful detoxifiers, flushing out any waste in your system. Adding crushed lavender to the mix not only adds a beautiful aroma but can also help digestion as lavender contains polyphenols that reduce bad bacteria in your gut, making your system run smoother,” he explains.

6. Pineapple Coconut Water
This one is almost cheating… almost. Get your favorite store bought raw coconut water and refrigerate over night with large chunks of pineapple. The coconut-pineapple flavor combo is delicious and reminiscent of a piƱa colada without all the sugar and calories. Although this is not pure H2O, coconut water contains electrolytes which plain water does not, which rehydrate you in record time. “Pineapple is yet another fruit that aids in collagen production,” says Papantoniou “This is not just great for beautiful skin, collagen also has a major role in bone health and tissue repair.”

Clearly there are benefits to keeping hydrated. Water does not have to be boring, it can be delicious. Drink up!

Animal Colors and more #RaisingAReader #EasterBasket Ideas

It's been a bit since I posted.  Wow.  These temperature changes are bringing the funk over here.  I feel like I have been ran over by a bus, but I am bound to get back on track, right??  I wanted to share a couple more books with you, remember...  March is READING AWARENESS MONTH!!!
I love reading to Broxton and Savannah.  Luckily, they still enjoy me reading to them!

Savannah is one and a half, so we are all about learning books. Counting, alphabet, shapes and colors. When the latest book arrived on our doorstep, we were thrilled.  Just so you know, Animal Colors and more is far from your average color book.  Most books have "red, orange, blue" basic colors.  Well, this covers the basic colors, but if you look at the picture I have shared, you see that they show there is a difference in shades of the color.  I loved that!!!!!
I enjoyed that the book was more than just basic colors and animals.  As you see here, we also got to see the "spotted" animals and even had a bit of interaction with the reader.  "Spot the difference."
The above page had us on a hide and seek adventure as we learned about green animals and had to look for the green snake and the green grasshopper!
Like I said, we have really enjoyed this book and I can not wait for us to continue reading and looking at the animals while we work on our colors!  This is the third book from the author, Katie Viggers and I think we will be adding the other books to our personal library.
This would be a great book to add to an Easter basket this year!
