We have not watched a video yet ( not been on our best behavior yet, so we are working on not talking as much and listening more!)  but I did want to go ahead and share with you a great idea for a budding artist in your life!
With Valentines around the corner, you could give the gift of drawing and skip the candy this year, if you are one to give gifts for that special day!  I think this would be fun and since it is geared for kids 5-9, I know when we do break it out, we will have an awesome time!
Hosted by former Disney illustrator Mark Marderosian, the critically-acclaimed, nationally broadcast, multi-award winning series teaches kids of all ages how to draw, while also taking them on education journeys to fun and exciting destinations.  Each multi-episode DVD includes journeys, drawing lessons and a specially-designed insert with drawing exercises - perfect practice for any budding young artist!  Additionally, each DVD includes a bonus drawing lesson, and a draw-along booklet with a coloring page insert.
A professional illustrator and creator of "Angels from the Attic," a comic strip that appears in 50 newspapers nationwide, Marderosian has a soft spoken and highly educational demeanor similar to Mr. Rogers and has been teaching children how to draw for over 20 years. Marderosian, whose  teaching style is inviting, warm and extraordinarily nurturing, teaches simple basic art lessons and discusses shapes, parallel lines, shading, dimension, stick figures and action lines, so the budding artist can feel comfortable moving forward and expanding his/her creativity.
DRAWING WITH MARK is currently broadcast on 150 television stations reaching over 350 cities nationwide, is an entertaining, interactive, educational series featuring live action as well as animated "Angels from the Attic" characters.
In addition to its Parent's Choice and Creative Child Magazine awards, DRAWING WITH MARK is a Dr. Toy winner for "best vacation" product and was approved by Kids FIRST!, a voluntary collaboration consisting of more than 100,000 members whose mandate is to teach children critical viewing skills and to increase the visibility and availability of quality children's media. The series is also a National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences 2013 Emmy® nominee in the Children's/Youth category in the Boston/New England area.

Funny Side Up - The Tom and Jerry Show

While Broxton and Marc are fans of Tom (Marc thinks they don't show Spike enough, as that is really his favorite) I personally love Jerry. Maybe it is just because he is so little and cute, but he is adorable to me.  No, I don't want him moving in or anything, but he is cute to watch on TV!
Broxton really enjoys watching this show, especially with his daddy, but let me tell you what we learned in Kindergarten this year... You aren't allowed to wear cartoon shirts if you want to fit in with some of the cool kids...  His was a vintage one, but we had a big discussion about wearing what you want and liking what you want.  Either way, that is here nor there, I just wanted to tell you that The Tom and Jerry Show - Funny Side Up was just released on DVD, so we have a new cute DVD for our collection!

“With cutting-edge animation and innovative story-telling, The Tom and Jerry Show, has brought a classic cartoon to a brand-new generation of viewers,” said Mary Ellen Thomas, Vice President Family & Animation Marketing. She added, “The Tom and Jerry Show Season 1 Part 2: Funny Side Up will delight viewers of all ages. We’re delighted to bring another entertaining Tom and Jerry release to consumers.”

Originally created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, Tom and Jerry emerged during Hollywood’s golden age of animation and became one of the most popular cartoon series in existence. The shorts focus on the never-ending rivalry between Tom the cat and Jerry the mouse. The plots of each short usually center on Tom’s attempts to capture Jerry. Jerry however, is clever and quick on his feet so Tom hardly ever manages to catch him.

Featured Shorts:

·         Turn About/The Plight Before Christmas

·         Tuffy Love/Poof!

·         Top Cat/Mummy Dearest

·         Domestic Kingdom/Molecular Break Up

·         Just Plane Nuts/Pets Not Welcome

·         Cruisin’ for a Bruisin’/Road Trippin’

·         Magic Mirror/Bone Dry

·         My Bot-y Guard/Little Quacker and Mister Fuzzy Hide

·         Pipeline/No Brain, No Gain

·         Cat Napped/Black Cat

·         Hunger Strikes/Gravi-Tom

·         Ghost Party/Cat-Astrophe

·         Curse Case Scenario/Say Cheese

As many of you know, I love reading and love sharing the gift of books with Broxton.  I think books are great and are a great way to escape, explore and imagine!   We love reading together and we were lucky enough to be chosen to help with the release of the movie, The Book Of Life, in celebrating National Reading Day on January 23rd.
What does it mean to celebrate National Reading Day?
Well, for us, we had a friend meet us and he and Broxton worked on making their own Book of Life Books!
We were sent a great assortment of products from the Book of Life, including a sketch pad, crayons, color pencils, stencils, rulers, stickers and even book bags!  Another awesome thing...
Pinhole Press sent along cute note pads (I gave one to a friend and then kept one for me!)  as well as gift codes for us to make our own professional Book Of Life Photo books!!!
If you follow me on Instagram, you might have already seen the photos below, but I just love them and wanted to share for those not on Instagram!
With the release of The Book of Life coming up so soon, and today being National Reading Day, we got to thinking about how important reading is and always will be! It is one of the best hobbies around, and easily the most timeless. Whether you enjoy skimming through the newspaper, or curling up with a good book, reading might be one of the best things you do for yourself and your children! It fosters great imagination and also lets you get in some quality time with your little ones! So pick out a nice book for you, one for your kids, and start turning those pages! Below is a list of some of our favorite children’s books!
If You Give A Mouse A Cookie

Now, I have not tried this one yet, so I am not sure about it.

Making the salad: Finely chop romaine, bell pepper, tomatoes, and green onions.Place all ingredients in a large bowl and stir to combine.Toss with desired dressing.
The credit given for this particular recipe was to The Garden Grazer .

Since I don't have a picture of this recipe (remember, I have not tried it yet) I thought I would leave you with a photo of Broxton I took.  Enjoy!
He was holding a piece of a tree stump Marc dug out.  I told him it was a dinosaur bone and he wanted to keep it!  He finally understood I was joking and we threw it away, but it was funny for a few minutes!

Have you tried this particular recipe?  Do you have any salad recipes you would like to share?  Please link up in the linky below!!!
Have a great weekend!!!!

With the new year, we get new books to share with you!

Between Broxton having to read for school, us wanting him to read in general, a couple reading challenges here and there, I am determined to make this happen!    He loves when I read to him and will sit and listen to several books.  I try and take advantage of this, as soon enough, he will be too grown to enjoy this time together!

As a Parragon Book Buddy, I was sent two new books for January and I wanted to let you know about them.

Muddypaws' Day at the Farm:
Broxton wants a dog so bad he can't stand it, but we have told him until he can keep the toys (mostly Lego, lego and more lego) off the floor, we can't have a dog, as that would hurt the pup.  Since he knows that will not be happening any time soon, he has taken to reading (or having me read to him) all sorts of books about puppies.  When I saw the Muddypaws book, I knew it was one he would enjoy!  In this book, Muddypaws heads to the farm with Ben.  They got to see Ducks and Pigs and Cows and all the things that go on at a farm, but Ben really just wanted to ride a real tractor!   The adventure really starts when Muddypaws runs off and Ben has to find him!
It was a cute book and I made the comment several times about the dog being dirty, so I was very happy to see that the illustrator even included "muddy paw" prints in the car when they had the ride home!   This is a book that he really enjoyed and of course it got him talking about wanting a dog again!

Glitterbelle The Sparkliest Princess Ever!
This is not your typical princess story!  Sure, she wears a tiara, but instead of sitting around in a frilly dress drinking tea all day, Glitterbelle would rather be outside riding her scooter and climbing tree's with her best friends!  Glitterbelle starts to question if she is even a real princess because she is so different, but her mom has just the thing to prove to her the truth!  I thought this was a cute book, but the thing that really stood out to me was how they illustrate it.  They make 3d scenes, then add the illustration of the characters into the image.  After that, they photograph it and make it ready to go into the book!  Talk about a way to stand out and be different! I though that was awesome!

Seems like Dora is a cartoon that everyone loves!  Myself included!  Broxton never really got into Diego, but there is something about Dora and Boots, he just loves them!  I know most parents are like "Dora is a *girls* show" but for me, it is much more than that.  Dora teaches him about life and it is an added bonus to let him pick up the bits of Spanish while watching!  I see nothing wrong with it and it is better than some other programs out there right now!
