I will admit that I am not a fan of tuna... Never have been and guess I never will be. That being said, Marc likes it, so we normally always have several cans in the pantry.  I don't know what tastes best or anything, so I just buy whatever I see at the store.  Normally Marc takes some to work with him, but I have heard that tuna is not that great to eat all of the time, due to the Mercury.  Now that I am pregnant, I have to watch the amount of fish I do eat (I love a nice piece of Salmon from time to time.)  When I heard that Safe Catch Tuna was available, I really wanted to try it out, well, I mean I wanted Marc to try it.

Check out the email introducing Safe Catch Tuna to me :
The foods we choose to feed our children are a major component of their growth and development. There is one food that is highly recommended for children and women pregnant or looking to become pregnant and it’s fish. Children and women who are pregnant are encouraged to eat 8-12 ounces of fish a week to help with infant and child growth. But high levels of mercury in the fish we eat can have damaging health defects on growth and brain development. Safe Catch, a new brand of tuna fish is setting new standards for the tuna industry. Safe Catch tests ever fish for mercury levels before purchase, their mercury level is 90% lower than the FDA’s, there is 5 times the Omega 3s compared to leading brands and it has a fresher taste.

The other day, as Marc was getting ready to go to work, I went ahead and threw a couple cans in for him to try out.  He said he was very impressed with the flavor of it.  He noticed first of all the convenience of the pop top lid and that it was not full of water / oil like other tuna brands.  He made him a couple sandwiches using just the tuna, mustard and the bread.  He was impressed that it didn't have a powerful fish taste like others he normally eats.

While Marc enjoyed the flavor and the ease of eating it while on the go, I love that it isn't full of Mercury like others.  Now, if I could just find a way to enjoy tuna, I would be able to enjoy it and reap the benefits of it!

Let me know if you are a fan of tuna and if you have tried this brand.

  1. Thanks for sharing and your right you do have to be so careful with everything when pregnant ;-) I enjoy tuna on occasion so this is great to know. And if you bake it up in a casserole with some cheese you'll never know it's there! LOl Have a great day!

    Blessings,
    Jill

  2. I've never seen that brand before, but I love tuna. I'll have to see if they have it at Whole Foods. Unfortunately Whole Foods isn't in a spot of town I go to often. It's worth it sometimes.

  3. My oldest is a big workout dude, so he eats this stuff like it's going out of style. Must work (either that or the weight lifting works)...he's pretty buff. ;)
