Benji and The 24 Pound Banana Squash #Review #Raisingareader

You know how sometimes you want immediate results, but it doesn't work out that way for you?  Well, in this book... we have Benji that has seeds from the previous summer.  He wants to plant it and grow a squash, but it just is not time... Finally the time has come, but it does not give him results as quick as he wants.  He loves and nourishes and it proud with his results.  It is funny to me that a kids book helped me to remember that things take time and to not try to rush through things... Just wait and love and support and thing will begin to work for you.

Have you ever wanted to achieve something so much that you were willing to dedicate yourself to a project for months on end? That’s what Benji does in BENJI AND THE 24 POUND BANANA SQUASH by bestselling author Alan C. Fox with illustrations by Eefje Kuijl. This garden-to-table story teaches children about patience, love, and perseverance.
It all begins when Benji plants squash seeds he saved from the summer before in the back of the garden.  He carefully waters them, but for awhile, nothing happens. Then suddenly one day, tiny sprouts start pushing through the soil and Benji begins to see his hard work pay off. When the gigantic banana squash is ready to be harvested, Benji’s dad weighs the vegetable – twenty-four pounds! – and takes a picture of Benji with it. But the best part comes when Benji’s mom cooks the squash with butter and brown sugar, so everyone in the family can gather and enjoy a delicious feast.
BENJI AND THE 24 POUND BANANA SQUASH is based on a real-life event that happened when Alan Fox was eight.  “I wanted to share the joy I experienced when I grew – what I thought was – the world’s biggest banana squash,” he explains. “I hope this book will inspire children and show them the value of patience and perseverance as well as the pleasures of growing their own fruits and vegetables to share with family and friends.”
