Some chicks like day, others like night. Some sleep in the dark, and some in the light. In HOOT & HONK JUST CAN’T SLEEP Hoot, an adorable owlet, and Honk, a fuzzy gosling, have just hatched—but their eggs got switched and now they’re in the wrong nests. Will they find their way home?
Leslie Helakoski’s gentle, lilting verse and irresistible illustrations make the perfect bedtime story as two adorable babies explore the world for the first time! Leslie is the author of Big Chickens (Puffin Books; the Michigan Reads picture book for 2007, Great Lakes Great Books Award and a GLBA finalist) and Woolbur (HarperCollins; a Book Sense pick for 2008, Florida Reading Association Honor Book and nominee for state book awards in nine states).
In BIG LITTLE HIPPO written and illustrated by Valeri Gorbachev, Little Hippo discovers that you don’t have to grow up to feel big!
Little Hippo is the youngest in his family...and the smallest. Smaller than his parents and siblings. Smaller than his friends, too, from old Crocodile to giant Elephant. And even though everyone promises he’ll grow, Little Hippo doesn’t want to wait. He wants to be big RIGHT NOW!
But, when he helps a creature even tinier than himself, Little Hippo learns that it’s the size of his heart that counts most of all. BIG LITTLE HIPPO is a marvelous read-aloud text that little ones will find easy to memorize and “read” to themselves.
Valeri Gorbachev has written and/or illustrated more than 50 children's books, including Sterling’s Rufus Goes to School and Rufus Goes to Sea, written by Kim T. Griswell, and Turtle's Penguin Day and The Giant Hug by Sandra Horning (both Knopf).
