Summertime means more time outside. Some might play outside in the yard, some might go camping or hiking or some, like us, try to spend as much time at a pool as we can.  You know, you get the sun... and you get the water to cool down!  No matter where you are outside, you need to make sure you are being SkinSmart.  Did you know that More People have had Skin Cancer than All other Cancers Combined?  That is a scary fact, but one we need to think about!

Here are some tips from Coolibar and ACS to be #SkinSmart:

·      Teach kids that being safe in the sun is as important as wearing a bike helmet! Limiting sun exposure now helps prevent skin cancer in the future.
·      Make sure to wear lightweight clothing that is tightly woven (t-shirts do NOT block UV rays!), and contains a UV protection factor of 50.
·      Keep sunscreen and a hat in your gym bag, stroller or diaper bag so it¹s always accessible when needed.
·      Apply sunscreen 15-30 minutes BEFORE going out in the sun, and remember to reapply to exposed areas every two hours, and more often after swimming or sweating.
·      Take regular breaks from the sun especially between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., when UV rays are strongest, and make sure to drink lots of water. Set your phone¹s alarm for reminders.
·      Wearing a wide-brim hat provides extra coverage to the neck and shoulders. Every inch of hat brim can lower your lifetime risk of skin cancer by 10%.
·      Wear a swim shirt specifically designed for water activities while at the pool or beach. These provide maximum sun protection, cover a large amount of exposed skin, and dry quickly so they are great for trips.
·      Wear sunglasses. In addition to protecting eyes from UV exposure, another cancer risk, the right sunglasses offer impact protection, and reduce reflection if you are participating in any rigorous activities.

We were sent a pair of the  Boys Island Swim Trunks from Coolibar for review.  The first time we were invited to a friends pool, Broxton was excited to put these on to show off his new suit at the pool.  I think they look great.  I love the bright colors,  I love the length and the material is great.  I do wish they had an adjustable waist in them, but to think about it, I don't think I have ever seen a pair of swim trunks that do have that. Maybe they need to make some!  (I know I have seen my fair share of little kids butts at the pool, so I know many other parents would be interested in them too!)
Have you bought swim suits for the summer? If not, you need to head over to check out the selection at Coolibar
!
Make sure to visit me on Instagram to see how cute Broxton looks in his new swim trunks!

  2. I like Coolibar. They've got a nice quality to them that's going to make them my go-to for swimwear. I love the rubber grips they have at the bottom of their shirts.

  3. We need to find a place to go swimming around here - now that we're not members of the YMCA. I read that some of the city pools are only $1 for kids to get into. Heck ya!
