So, let me explain Sunday night to you... I thought about having a neighborhood movie night at the house and buying a projector to show it on the side of the house.(HOW FUN WOULD THAT BE?!) I was all excited about it, until I saw that there was a wide range in price for a projector and I did not know what I needed. Hello, if I get this projector, how do I play the movie? How do we hear it? Yeah, those questions made me nervous... So then it hit me!! THE CHURCH!!! Our church does so much for the community, I thought it would be AWESOME to host a movie night there. I spoke with our Children's Ministry leader and she was all for it. SCORE!!!!
Flyers were made and passed out. Announcement were made at church and on the church website. We decided to go with Sundae's and a movie, since it was Sunday night! I grabbed the ice cream and the toppings and we were good to go!!!!
Sunday night rolled around and we were ready to greet everyone. We had the goodies placed out for the kids and the movie was ready to be played. It was a slow start and I was getting a bit nervous... Then they started to roll in. Parents and children, teenagers and more.
The kids LOVED that they had things to do while we waited for the movie to start. (We had glow sticks that somehow or another turned into swords for kids of all ages... and a few parents too!) They had face masks of Po and Tigress and we even had activity sheets!
The Ice Cream Station was a big hit... Especially in this summer heat!!!! Just go with plain vanilla and let them add the toppings they want!!!!
Yes, you send your kids up to get their own toppings and they go crazy!!! We had a variety from M&M's to pineapples, marshmallows and cherries. Of course no ice cream sundae is complete without chocolate and / or caramel fudge on top!!! (With so many people having nut allergies, I decided to keep this a nut free environment!)
The kids loved it and of course asked if we had popcorn too! No worries, we did and you should have seen the smiles on their faces! Ice cream to start and popcorn to finish? Sounds like a great movie night to me!!!
Even the adults got in on the Kung Fu Panda fun!!!! This is one of the guys that works at the church. I was very appreciative for the church helping to make this a success!
Once the ice cream was scooped, we were ready to settle in and start the movie. Oh, did I mention we even told them they could wear their PJ's to make it even more fun? Yep!!! Good times!
We had this set up for the kids to grab what they wanted. It was so funny when they asked how much it was and were shocked when we said it was all FREE. They loved the goodies and we saved the bag tags to be a treat for them to grab on the way out.
On the way out they all got to choose if they wanted a Po or Tigress bag tag. They all seemed to think it was pretty cool that they not only got to see a brand new movie, but they also got goodies from the movie to take home! It was so sweet having the little children (we had around 25-30 kids under the age of 10 there!) come up and say thanks for the movie and treats. I have already had a few ask when we can do another movie.
If you are looking for something fun to do this summer (or even this upcoming school year) why not see about a neighborhood movie night for your community? You can go big or small, totally up to you.. it is a fun way to get families together more!
What is another way you could do movie night besides Ice Cream and Popcorn?
What toppings do you put on your Ice Cream Sundae?
I could have an ice cream station right here, right now. It's 100 degrees out today.
ReplyDeleteWow! This looks like it was a lot of fun, especially for the kiddos! I bet they loved it!
ReplyDeleteI love the masks! This looks like such a fun party.
ReplyDeleteThe masks are so much fun! We had a Kung Fu Panda party after the first movie. I used a gigantic movie poster as a slip in slide for the kids. They loved it!
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a fun time! I can't wait to see Kung Fu Panda 3! I love the idea of the party!
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a fun movie night idea, Noelle! And I love that it was free for the kids. :)
