100 Things to Do in Athens Georgia Before You Die - #AD #BookReview #GODAWGS

If you know me at all... or if you follow me on Instagram... you know I LOVE MY DAWGS!!!
My dad and my brother both went to the University of Georgia (I went to an art school, so no football teams!)  Down here in the south COLLEGE FOOTBALL is a way of life... for the most part, you play it or you at least watch it... and you have your team... and it is normally a BIG DEAL!  Before I was married and had kids, I worked in a sports bar... we were a Gator bar ( BIG RIVAL, we don't do sports teams that have orange in their logo! lol)  But most of the employees were Bulldawgs... Football season was always a good time for us... as far as having fun and making money!  Growing up, I have been to some of the home games... and always have fun. We had a great time in Athens when my brother graduated and have been there on several occasions.  Truth is, for the games, it has always been a go up and back kind of thing, so when I was given the chance to review the book, 100 Things to Do in Athens Georgia Before You Die, I thought it would be fun!
If you follow me on Instagram, you know I went to the game this past weekend.. so needless to say, I took the book to read on the way up!  The first 30 "things to do" include places to eat... and whenever the kids and I go out of town, I always tell them we have to eat SOMEWHERE that WE DO NOT HAVE back home. ( Am I the only one that does that?)  Anyways, reading this book has given me a few places I want to check out... and some are bars that would be fun to do a girls trip to Athens for!  I will tell you, I have not finished the book yet, but have really enjoyed reading it so far.  Each "thing" to do is only a page... some include websites to the place mentioned, some pages include tips to make the most out of it... either way, I think this is a great gift to go under the tree this year... maybe with season tickets to one of the several sports offered on the UGA campus?!

PRESS RELEASE:

Athens, Georgia, is simply a classic. From the birthplace of higher education to the magnetism of Athens-born rock bands like B52’s and R.E.M., every corner of the city is saturated with rich culture, good eats, and bustling gatherings. And with 100 Things to do in Athens, Georgia Before you Die as your guide, you’ll have all of the locals’ tips for exploring the best the city has to offer. A team of locals, Judy and Len Garrison encourage you to let this book introduce you to the uncharted adventures and to the familiar celebrity that is Athens. Whether a weekend or a lifetime, these experiences connect you to the energy and passion of The Classic City.

Judy and Len would love to discuss their guide, which includes topics such as:

  • Every Georgia Bulldog fan that has witnessed a game between the hedges of Sanford Stadium filled to the brim in red and black confirms that Athens, GA, is the best college town (especially SEC) on the planet. You can scream for the home team (#51) year-round, but it’s the fall when the city braces for a reawakening. Football Saturdays in Athens draw the locals and out-of-towners to their favorite tailgate (#49) spot, sharing Southern classics like pulled pork, and donning their national championship t-shirts (#93). Before the game, gather at Tate Center for the Dawg walk (#57); no tickets required.
  • Taste the innovative culinary classics that have made Athens a foodie destination. Join your friends at Five and Ten (#1) for the weekly (Tuesday) blue plate special or veg-out at The Grit (#5), an Athens icon. If it’s a burger kind-of-night at your neighborhood bar, head to Oglethorpe Garage (#15) for your favorite local brew and a half-wrapped monster burger from the Café Racer (#25) food truck.
  • Music has been and always will be a cornerstone of Athens nightlife. Home of musical greats like R.E.M., The B-52’s, Widespread Panic, and Drive-By Truckers, Athens highlights two downtown city blocks where these musicians got their start, Athens Music Walk of Fame (#39). Venues like Georgia Theatre (#36) and 40 Watt (#35) helped catapult the unknowns into music history.

Have you ever been to Athens? If so, what do you recommend to someone going for the first time?
Also- what team do you pull for?
GO DAWGS!!!!!
