Do You Know a Family Caregiver? @chickensoupsoul #giveaway

If you know someone who is a family caregiver, you know that they deal with more than their fair share.
From Wikipedia:   A general definition of a carer/caregiver is someone who is responsible for the care of someone who has poor mental health, physically disabled or whose health is impaired by sickness or old age.

Chicken Soup for the Soul has now released a book for Family Caregivers:  101 Stories of Love, Sacrifice and Bonding.

The Chapters Include:

Lessons Learned
All You Need Is Love
Finding Joy
Acceptance
Laughter is the Best Medicine
Perseverance
Blessings
Saying Goodbye

This book really hits home for me..

First of all, my grandaddy is not in the best of health...
So, that in itself breaks my heart...

My mema has to take care of him and yes, she is his caregiver...

Also, a friend of mine is married to a guy that was diagnosed with ALS.
They are young and in love and facing all the challenges that come their way.
Granted, some days are better than others, but as in the third story (also about someone with ALS) you have to love unconditionally with no guarantees.

The one thing I really enjoyed about this book?
The fact that it not only has stories from the point of view of the caregiver...
There are also stories from those that receive the care.
I liked how one of the ones receiving care said that it made him feel good when his son (caregiver) focused on what he COULD do instead of the things he no longer could do...  It allowed him to keep his dignity and self esteem.

We know how much I love the quotes throughout the book....

and I will leave you with this one:
" Tears are the safety valve of the heart when too much pressure is laid on it."   ~ Albert Smith

As with each story in the Chicken Soup book, you can feel the tug at your heartstrings....
I know that even if you do not know a family caregiver personally, you will still enjoy the love and bonding shared through these pages...

  1. I read one of the Chicken Soup books when the series was new.

Being a caregiver is a hard thing, I know. One of the things that my family has talked about is loving someone because of WHO HE IS rather than WHAT HE DOES.

  4. Same answer as before. I have bought 5 of them and have every intention of reading them, as soon as I get some "me" time that does not include kids pounding on the bathroom door
