What Children Need to Learn to READ

Image
If you read my earlier post, We have Found a Church ! I am so excited about that and also that we have decided to enroll Broxton into their school. With that being said, I want to make sure he is on the right path. Granted, we work on our colors, numbers, shapes and what not..  If you are a regular reader on here, you know that I love to read and want to pass that to Broxton. The latest book I have had the chance to enjoy is What Children Need to Learn to Read .   This book is full of information and Broxton has seemed pretty happy that I am reading it. Chapter 1- Parent / Teacher Tips Chapter 2 - A Children's Language Accomplishment Checklist (Birth to Age 6) Chapter 3- A Reading Checklist for Parents Chapter 4- Baby and Toddler Games Chapter 5- Rhyming Chapter 6- Music and Songs Chapter 7- Letters and Their Sounds Chapter 8- Sight Words Chapter 9- Read Alouds, Listening and Comprehension Chapter 10- Phonics Chapter 11- Writing Chapter 12 - Word ...

Go On an Adventure with The Rock - Journey 2: The Mysterious Island

Image
We just had the chance to watch Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. Let me start with saying that I have never seen the first one... That being said, I do not think you need to (unless I missed something that I should have "gotten" but it seemed as though we were good to go just watching this.)  I will tell you, since we are WWE fans, I was more inclined to want to see this..   As it has Dwayne Johnson (AKA THE ROCK) as one of the key characters...  (I also though the boys would like to see it when they come, as it has Vanessa Hudgens and they all think "she is HOT!"   So, we got the movie and Broxton immediately wanted to see The Rock Movie. Have you heard of Journey 2?  Long Story Short, this kid is a little BRAT and his step-dad is Dwayne Johnson.  (He makes it clear that "he is NOT my stepfather, just my appointed guardian." )  At this point, Marc and I were already commenting on his crappy attitude.  Well, he gets ...

Keep Reaching Those Milestones! Let @mybabycompass Help! #Giveaway

Image
I admit it, I love to read and more than that, I love to read things that can "help" me be a better mom to Broxton.  If you remember, Marc was deployed basically until Broxton was 13 months old.. During that time, I was "THAT" mom..  We were frequent visitors at the pediatrician.. I was determined that there was NO WAY I was going to have to get in touch with Marc in a war zone to tell him anything bad about Broxton.. and I was NOT going to be a bad mom.. I want to be the BEST mom... So, that means I had all sorts of books on babies... and Google and I were on a first name basis!!! I was always online looking to see things and make sure all was okay. I remember when we go all the time, they would ask if he was doing different things and that he was reaching the different milestones... Truth be told, I wasn't sure what I should be attempting to do with him, but luckily he was doing all the things they would ask... Now, Marc is home and we do not go nearly ...

We Found A Church

Time for a personal post.... Marc and I have found a church that we really enjoy. I hate to admit it, but we had not gone to church and I knew we needed to...  Not to mention I really wanted Broxton to be raised in a church.  No, I am not going to throw religion down his throat, but I want him to know Gods Love.  A friend of mine actually extended an invitation to go to her parents church... We went and enjoyed it... We discussed it and decided we would go back the next week. The week we were there, the Preacher that normally preached wasn't there, so we wanted to go and listen to him.  I will tell you, that first Sunday we went, there was a lady up there talking... That was a first for me... So, we went the next Sunday and I am so glad we did!  We LOVED it.  I am not joking when I tell you that although there was a good number in the congregation, it felt as though he was just talking one on one with me. He was that personable and at that moment, it felt...

A Perfect Pet for Peyton

Image
From the Dr. that brought us The 5 Love Languages...  His first ever children's book:  A Perfect Pet for Peyton by Dr. Gary Chapman. I have read this book a few times with Broxton and he has loved looking at all the different animals throughout it, but I have loved it for the message of the book. In this book, 5 kids go to a Pet Emporium for a birthday party.. As they go throughout the place, you see all sorts of animals.. (The bottom of the page will tell you what to be on the lookout for.) We see a Hummingbird in the Bird Area, a llama in the petting zoo, a green tree frog in the reptile area and so many more!    Broxton and I had a great time looking at all the animals. We have not even gotten to the best part...  At the end of all the touring of the Pet Emporium, we then settle down to eat and open the presents... before the pet pairing. All the kids were excited to see what their "Perfect Pet Pal" was going to be... That was when Mr. Chapm...
