Aloha Friday # 9
As we know, FRIDAY = ALOHA FRIDAY!
So, as Kailani over at Island Life says...
In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.
If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and leave your link below. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!
Being born and raised in the SOUTH... (South Georgia)
I have always heard not to cut a baby boy's hair until his first birthday.
I am not sure if it is a southern thing or what...
BUT, B will not be getting his hair cut until then.

My ALOHA FRIDAY Question is this:
Did you cut your baby boy's hair before his first birthday?
Have you ever even heard of this "tradition?"

ALOHA!!!!!
The same thing goes in my family. I thought our tradition stemmed from Mexico.
ReplyDeleteMay have heard it, but didn't pay much attention to it. My oldest son was bald till he was over a year old. My youngest son was born with a full head of thick black hair. I don't remember how old he was when he got his first haircut.
ReplyDeleteShame on me!!
Never heard of it & nope, we didn't follow it. My kid's might not have tons of hair @ birth but by the time they are 9 months old they look ridiculis if we don't cut their hair.
ReplyDeleteYes, except for one of our boys who didn't get a haircut until he was about two, because he didn't have any hair to cut. My kids have very straight hair, not curls so it just looks shaggy, not cute if it gets too long.
ReplyDeleteNever heard of that tradition. My son didn't get his first hair cut until after his 2nd birthday. He had hardly any hair and didn't need one until then.
ReplyDeleteWe don't have kids yet.. but i guess I've heard of this ting before.. but i never got it:) ha:)
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday!
* my Aloha Friday's up too:)
I've not heard of that tradition at all. I only saved my son's hair from being cut because my mom wanted to plait it :)
ReplyDeleteI have three sons. I have never heard of that tradition, amazingly enough. My oldest was pretty much born with a mullet. I tried to wait to cut his hair just cause I loved it but I had to draw the line and cut it by the time he was seven months. I just had to cut the length off because I was so sick of everyone assuming he was a girl.
ReplyDeleteMy other two sons had much shorter hair that grew slowly so I didn't have to cut it until both of them were over a year. I did keep all the clippings of the first hair cuts!
I'm pretty sure that it wasn't until he was about 15 months that we gave in and did it.
ReplyDeleteNope, never heard of this tradition, but I had to cut my boy's hair...he had a full head when he came out and people were already calling him a girl(red curly hair), so I had to have him trimmed up. I loved his curly hair though.
ReplyDeleteMine never had enough hair before one.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of that tradition. Of course I only have a daughter, but her hair didn't cut until after she was one.
ReplyDeleteWe had a friend who had been a barber a long time before we knew him. He insisted on giving my son his first hair cut. I'm glad he did because my son is grown and the friend has since passed.

I do not recall hearing that and I think all three of my boys had their first haircuts before they were 1.
ReplyDeleteI have heard many different traditions with hair cutting. The Orthodox Jewish people wait even longer. We are not that religious. We got our boys hair cut when they needed it. For both it just happened to be well after they were one.

ReplyDeleteI live int he south too. I didn't cut my son's hair until after his 1st bday either and have no clue why! LOL! BUT..I didn't.
ReplyDeleteNo, we didn't cut Matthew's hair until he was about 2. My kids had a hard time getting hair, so their first cuts were late.
ReplyDeleteWell, I was born in the South, raised in the South and still live in the South, but I have never heard of this. I'm not sure Ryan will need a haircut before his first birthday. He has hair and it's super cute and blonde and we think he is even growing a mullet, but it is still not long enough to warrant a trim. So, we will see.
ReplyDeleteI think my kids got their hair cuts well after their first birthdays. Brittany is 18 months and I haven't cut her hair yet.
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard of that tradition. I think he had his first hair cut around 1 or 1 1/2. But I trimmed it myself before then because he got these long little curls and started to look like a girl.

I actually just posted about this no too long ago - my little boy had his hair cut last week at 7 months old. I almost cried!! I didn't want to cut it till he was a year old either but he had this mullet going on...it really needed it.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter has like NO hair though, so she still hasn't had her first haircut (unless you count me trimming her bangs) and she is 2.5 years old
no, i did not cut my son's hair before his first b'day. i have not heard about it being a certain region's tradition. i didn't want to cut his hair since he had adorable curls and i knew they would disappear when i cut his hair. when i finally did, they did, and i was super sad. aloha and take care.
ReplyDeleteWe didn't but I never knew about any tradition about it.
ReplyDeleteNO, it was closer to 15 months. I wanted to get it cut so bad but the wife shot me down. He was sporting a curly mullet. LOL.
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday!
I have never heard of that. I live in Buffalo, NY. I think my son was @ 18m old when we got his haircut...he didn't have much hair for what seemed forever.
ReplyDeletei've never heard of that tradition. i didn't have to cut the boy's hair until well after that because they were BALD!
ReplyDeletethanks for stopping by my post.
p.s. i like your name!
Never heard of that tradition, but my kids both got haircuts before they were a year old. Their dad gave them crew cuts when they were 9/10 months old.
