This past weekend was full of adventure for us.  I was so excited to get to take Broxton to one place in particular.  It seems like every single time we head into Atlanta...  He spots the big yellow and blue tent and he ALWAYS has to ask me what is in there ... and when we can go check it out.  Well, this time... the surprise was on him!  We were going and he was going to get to see what all the excitement was about!!!
The other night, we headed into the city to #MakeMemories and that is exactly what we did!
Yes!   Cirque Du Soleil is back in Atlanta!  Until November 30th, you have the opportunity to go and see something that is truly amazing!   Celebrating its 30th Anniversary in 2014, Cirque du Soleil brings a new show to Atlanta! Amaluna invites the audience to a mysterious island governed by goddesses and guided by the cycles of the moon. Amaluna's Tony Award-winning Show Director, Diane Paulus, drew from a series of classical influences when creating the concept of the show; including tales from Greek and Norse mythology, Mozart's The Magic Flute, and Shakespeare's The Tempest. Now playing under the famed blue-and-yellow Big Top at Atlantic Station…with great seats as low as $35!

Amaluna invites the audience to a mysterious island governed by Goddesses and guided by the cycles of the moon.Their queen, Prospera, directs her daughter’s coming-of-age ceremony in a rite that honours femininity, renewal, rebirth and balance which marks the passing of these insights and values from one generation to the next.In the wake of a storm caused by Prospera, a group of young men lands on the island, triggering an epic, emotional story of love between Prospera’s daughter and a brave young suitor. But theirs is a love that will be put to the test. The couple must face numerous demanding trials and overcome daunting setbacks before they can achieve mutual trust, faith and harmony.
We arrived and were ready to enjoy as soon as we walked through the tent.  (We have seen shows "like" this in the past, so I knew Broxton was going to enjoy it.)  I will warn you now-- they have concessions, but I was shocked at how much it was for a coke... $5 for a bottle.  I warn you because I was not the only one, I heard many comments about how it was ridiculous, so I did want you prepared.  But on to the show.

Once seated, they do remind you to turn your phones off... No texting, photos, video or anything like that.  I loved that, since many people seem to be inconsiderate of those around them today!
The show starts with beauty and it immediately captivates you.  I do wish there was a way that I could have recorded a few of Broxton's expressions though.  It was priceless and I am glad I have those memories, but it would have been awesome to share with you.  (Just picture him, with his eyes as wide as saucers and his jaw dropping to his knee's...  you somewhat get the idea now!)
After the show was over, we were invited to stay for a special media Q & A  with the PR spokesperson, as well as the head of wardrobe.  (I will share some of the things we learned under a few of the photographs below.)

The show is basically about this young girl (above) coming into womanhood and seeking love.
One pretty awesome thing?  The artists are sometimes close up- in the crowd.  When the lights came back on at one point, she was like 3 rows in front of me, in the aisle.   When working to produce a Cirque Du Soleil show, they often visit athletic competitions.  For the "Amazons" they actually scouted and recruited gymnasts to be in the show.
This particular act was one of my favorites.  I thought it was absolutely awesome and Broxton was pretty amazed by it too!  Talk about impressive!
This was pretty neat.  The water-bowl.   The acts in here were just beautiful.. But here are a few tidbits of information you won't hear about:
It takes around 4 hours to fill the water-bowl up. They have the water heated to 98* (to keep her muscles from getting messed up.)  They played around with temperatures and this was the one that works the best.  They fill it up once they get to the city they will be in and then use a filtration system and a small amount of chlorine to keep it clean while there.  It weighs over 4,000 pounds, so they can not move it completely off the set in between acts, so for the acts when it is not in use, it is a focal piece.
This guy was one of Broxton's favorite.  At first he wasn't a fan... since he was "stealing everyones popcorn!"  but as the show went on, Broxton really seemed to enjoy him.  I thought is was pretty cool to learn that all of the artists in the show do their own makeup!  Yes!   They train them and when starting, it takes them a few hours each day, but over time, they get it worked out and it takes around 45 minutes per show to apply their makeup!  Another thing to note?  Each individual artist has a bust made of them when they begin performing with Cirque. If they have tattoos for the show, they make stencils of the tattoo and use it that way to apply correctly.
The pole act here was my favorite. I thought it was going to be the girls swinging the lights (photo up above)  but when this happened... my breath was taken away!  AH-MAZ-ING!!!
He climbs the pole trying to save his love... but the thing that is awesome?  The ease in which he climbs it - sideways- with his hands.  Talk about jaw dropping!!! I could watch that over and over again and again and again!!!   I was terrified for him as he did each act, but then in the end I was yelling and screaming in support of his talent!
It was wonderful to note that they are very supportive of any injuries on the show.  If it is a minor injury it is treated there... but if it is major, they send them home-- so they can be with loved ones in a comforting environment to heal.  I thought that was awesome, as I would hate to think someone was having to recuperate in a hospital all alone, miles away from family.
Another interesting thing to note about this particular act?  He STOPS HIMSELF WITH HIS COSTUME!  Yes, You read that right...  You have to see it to see the true AWE of it all!!!!
We really had a great time at the show... and I was very pleased with getting to stay after for the Media Q & A.
Aren't you excited and wanting to go????  You can!!!
