Hopefully you read my post yesterday introducing you to Fat Brain Toys. If not, head on over to my last post and check it out. As I said before, Fat Brain Toys has toys for all ages and they sell all major brands.  What makes them stand out even more is that they sell toys that they create themselves too.  We were sent a few to check out and I want to tell you about them now.

Up first:  Swingy Thing

Seriously, that is what it is called.  No need to worry on the confusion about that one. Your kid goes to a friends house that has it.  They come home and tell you they want "the swingy thing" to play with.  You have NO CLUE what it is.  Instead of calling to ask the parents what it is, you just you tube swingy thing toy and BOOM.  You see it, are intrigued as to if you can master all 52 challenges.  What do you do?  You order it for only $14.99 and start trying it out for yourself.
Swingy Thing
  • Thrilling game of spinning flippers and dippers
  • Encourages hand-eye coordination, focus
  • A great tool for stress relief
  • Helps build fine motor skills, improves concentration
  • Features 52 challenges to work through
  • Try adding "Slam" to challenges - Spin dippers and flippers in opposite directions
  • Includes Swingy Thing, metal display stand
  • Detailed sheet of tips and challenges included
  • Flippers and dippers made of high quality wood
  • Handles made of metal
  • I have this sitting on our kitchen table.  Perfect to play while we wait for dinner. In between homework.  Just walking by and want to grab it to play a minute? Why not.  It is awesome. Swingy Thing is a wooden game that is on a metal pole / stick type thing (for the handles.) The handles then rest in the metal holding tray, so it is perfect to just have sitting out. I think it would be a great thing to have in a waiting room, but sad to say in the world we live in today, I see to many people getting sticky fingers with them and taking it home.   I could see it being a great conversation starter, so maybe a great thing to have in a commons area for college.  I am telling you, it is for all ages.  My mom used to have brain games like this in her office, so I am going to suggest this to her!  As you can see on my Instagram page, little boys (7 year old) up to bigger boys (age 20) enjoy trying it out. I enjoyed it (age 37) and I am sure my parents will give it a try when they come visit.  (I don't have permission to share their ages!)
The only thing I wish was different?  The sheet that has the challenges on it... I wish there was a way to laminate it, make it like a little book or something.  I love having it with the set and easily accessible, but I know it will eventually start to fall apart with the opening and closing of it all the time.

The next toy we were sent: Oombee Cube
This is perfect for Savannah.  (age 1)  It is a little box that allows her to sort shapes, but the best part? The shapes are connected with a little cord, so no need to worry about having to keep up with the different parts.  This is great to have as a travel toy, or even one to have at each grandparents house! For only $16.95, they are great to buy a few to have on hand.
    OombeeCube
  • Shape-sorting cube with 6 rubbery shapes tethered to its corners
  • Encourages fine motor skills, sensory learning, tactile exploration, visual-spatial skills
  • An innovative approach to classic shape-sorting fun
  • Shapes are rubbery, textured, squishy - Made of 100% food-grade, BPA-free silicone - Great for teething!
  • Shapes each slide smoothly and snugly into their respective slots
  • Shapes are tethered to each corner with extra thick, strong, and secure string - Never lose a single shape!
  • Strings are short enough to be exceptionally safe, long enough for little hands to grab and explore freely
  • Shapes include triangle, square, oval, circle, pentagon, double circle
  • High quality design and materials, built for lasting durability and safety

  • As I said, we have enjoyed this.  With the shapes connected (strings are not that long) we don't have to worry about losing pieces.  It is small enough that we can throw it in the diaper bag to take out to eat or in the car.  It is large enough that we don't lose it on car trips and spend the time searching in the car for it.
I love that it is made of a hard rubber type material, so she can chew on it without it harming her (hello teething stage...AGAIN) and if its dropped it wont break or crack.
Another plus?  We get to work on colors and shapes.
Ready for the negative?  I have 1 major one.  I had to go back and look up what one shape was!  I guess I need to brush up. I totally forgot what the 5 sided shape was called (*pentagon. I know now!) The only other thing is a catch 22.  I ABSOLUTELY LOVE that they used fun bright colors , as so many toys are in the classic "red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple" colors.   At the same time, I wish they did use the basic ones, so we could work on teaching them with her.   Maybe they could make both?  Or maybe, just maybe, I could just teach her the classic colors and let her broaden her knowledge and have fun learning that there are more shades out there than just the plain ones!

The final toy we were sent: AnimaLogic.
This really looks like an awesome game and one that will be played for many years by all of our children.

Now, we have not played this one yet.  I wanted to put it up and give it to him as a Christmas gift. I say " I WANTED TO"  This will not be the case.  They have a school break coming up soon. I think it is fall break or something. I will be surprising him with this game to start the break off with.  We love games here and nothing is sweeter than having game day / game night with him and seeing the smile on his face.
Granted, he LOVES his Ipad, Netflix and TV.. but when we get to read a book or play games together, he is happiest than any other time.  I know that the times of him wanting to spend with me will get shorter the older he gets, so I will enjoy every minute of them now while I still can.
Stay tuned to Instagram to see when this game gets started!

    1. They are so great! This is the place I won a giant GC one Christmas! I was so excited! I have a past student that helps develop games, packaging, mans their website, and fb page. My sister went in there and they made a list of all Emerson friendly toys. :)
