Two new books with beautiful illustrations

Every night for part of Broxton's homework, he has to read for 20 minutes.
That is the problem. HE has to read.  He loves when I read to him, but for him to read, he isn't a fan. I don't know what to do, so we make the most out of it.  Know what he does like? He loves to read to his little sister. Know what else?  That right there makes my heart happy. Every - single- time!    I have two new books to share with you, but I would love it if you have any help to getting him to enjoy reading his 20 minutes.

We were just sent this book for review.  123 Dream by Kim Krans. I think it is beautiful and Savannah has grabbed it more than a handful of times and handed it to me.  As you can imagine, it is a counting book.  Each page has a picture on it and a number.
I love that they made the item for the count be the starting letter for the object.  See above?  Three Thistles. Another page has Eight Ears.  I have yet to figure out what the Nine is, so I use whatever I think at the time.  Check out my instagram and let me know what it is so I can read the book right, will ya?

From the publicist:
From the creator of the popular lifestyle blog “The Wild Unknown” Kim Krans comes 123 DREAM (Random House Books for Young Readers | On sale September 27, 2016 | Ages 3–7), a stunning and elegant picture book for youngsters that visually demonstrates alliteration. Featuring delicate ink-and-water illustrations this is a truly artistic book that will dazzle readers.

The other book we were sent?  Imagine a City by Elise Hurst.  This book was "different" to me. I thought it was cute, but it just did not grab me.  I took it to be that the world is full of different things. I also took it to say that you can escape in a book, as there is so much waiting in each one.  Other than that, I thought it was odd and hate to admit that out of these, it was not a favorite one.  I did love the illustrations, but with it geared to 3-7 year olds, I thought that color would have been much more attention grabbing.

From the publicist:
Don’t miss IMAGINE A CITY by Elise Hurst (Doubleday Books for Young Readers | On sale October 11, 2016 | Ages 3-7, a stunning and dream-like visual voyage into the imagination. With simple, evocative rhyming text and page after page of unusual and mystical details to explore, this is a story that encourages readers to open their minds and dream of magical places filled with the unexpected.

What are your children reading these days?

  1. It's fun to get new books. We haven't indulged in awhile. A trip to the bookstore soon could be in order. :)
