W/W - Fried Green Tomatoes
Okay, so I know...
I have lived in Atlanta for like, a million years now...
and not far from here (like maybe an hour and a half) is Juliette, Georgia... where they filmed Fried Green Tomatoes.
I have ALWAYS said I wanted to go there...
I have ALWAYS said I wanted to go there...
but never have.
One of my best friends, Himee, and I were going to go...
but, she moved back to Kansas to hang out with Dorothy and the Tin Man...
So, I can't go with her!
Remember when Marc and I went to Savannah and renewed our vows?
On the way home, we saw the billboard announcing the area...
AND - Marc - pulled - off - the - exit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IF YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS MOVIE, PLEASE WATCH FIRST... Then read this post! I do not want to ruin it for you!!!!
Now, the billboard said it was like 12 miles off the interstate, but it felt like 75 miles....
Just a long road with nothing to see but green...
Then, there it was.
I was about to wet myself!
LoL, not really... but still, I was pretty excited!
LoL, not really... but still, I was pretty excited!
Of course, first stop was the Whistle Stop Cafe.
Unfortunately, they were closing up...
So, we did not get to eat there...
Although you can!
As you walk down the street, they have Green Tomatoes painted on the road...
and of course, you can see Idgie's mailbox!
Please tell me you have seen the movie...
If so, you know all about Buddy's arm...
Well, here is where it is buried! :)
Well, here is where it is buried! :)
Out back of the Whistle Stop Cafe is the BBQ pit...
and if you look to the back right, you see where Smokey Lonesome lived...
As well as the front right, you can see Frank Bennet's grave!
But, I did not see it anywhere..
Marc has never seen the movie.
So, I was telling him, in the movie, she walks from the Whistle Stop Cafe and down a long dirt road... that is where the cemetery with Ruth's grave was... (at least in the movie.)
So, my sweet hubby decides to take a drive to see if we can find it...
Sure enough... there is a church...
With a cemetery...
and then Marc says,
"Hey... what is up with that bear of honey on that one?"
I almost fell out...
I was like "THAT IS IT!!!! YOU FOUND IT!!!!!!!"
I knew it all along, I just wanted to share it with you!!!!!
That is sweet! Happy WW!

Hi There. I had no idea that they had all that there. The filmmakers left props?
ReplyDeleteI am from Wyoming and don't get out of it much. A few years ago I went to Pascagoula, MS to see my brother. We drove around site seeing and passed a road sign that read, "Bayou LaBatre" That rung a bell for me. I immediately knew who fictionally lived there from a movie, do you?
I really enjoyed your pictures. It's awesome they had honey on the bee charmer's stone. Thanks so much for getting me out of snow covered Wyoming for a bit!
Just Laurie from Grandma Sez So
