Fall Fitness Tips by Dara Torres
Do Your Homework – Now that the kids are at school (and out of your hair) take an afternoon for yourself and book an appointment with a personal trainer at your local gym; most gyms will allow you to book a session even without a membership. Have the trainer show you workouts that are specific to what areas you wish to target and what fitness goals you hope to achieve. Most important, be sure to take notes! You will not only learn how to complete the exercises correctly, but can implement the strategy on your own without having to take multiple sessions – who says working out can’t be smart and savvy?
Water Does A Body Good – You’ve heard it time and time again, but it really is important to stay hydrated throughout the day. Not only will you decrease your appetite (studies have found your body can often mistake hunger with thirst), but it will also help in making you slimmer and younger, combating bloat and moisturizing skin. H20 is the way to go!
Get Spicy – Don’t be afraid to turn up the heat – no, not on the thermostat, in the kitchen! The cooler weather makes for a perfect excuse to spice your dishes up, so add extra peppers to your chilly, cayenne to your hearty stew or even red pepper flakes to your pizza to boost flavor and your metabolism.
Embrace the Cold – Just because it is chilly outside, doesn’t mean you should fear the cold. Cryotherapy is often used by chiropractors and physical therapists to alleviate muscle aches and pains. To avoid the doctor’s office, utilize this system at home by having ice packs readily stored in your freezer and having plenty of BENGAY® Cold Therapy, which provides a fast-acting blast of cold and deep penetrating, long-lasting relief.
Stretch Your Limits –A stretch a day can keep the pains at bay. Taking breaks throughout the day, at home or at work, will keep muscles loose and ease tightness or pain. Short on time? In a sitting position, shrug your shoulders up and down and gently roll your head side to side. Adjusting your position will also counteract stiffness.
