Plus Size Yoga: Book Review

I have heard that Yoga is great for people of all ages and sizes.
I even went and bought a yoga mat a bit ago...
But then, once it was time to actually do yoga..  I couldn't..
Well, it wasn't that I couldn't...  It was that I had no clue what I was doing...

Truth be told, I wasn't going to walk in a classroom with no clue either...
So that thought went out the window!

When I saw that there was a book out there called " Plus Sized Yoga : Beginners Yoga for People of All Sizes."  I was eager to see inside it.  I think that was my whole thing, there is no hiding that I am not a skinny mini, so I know I could not go and do some of the ones you see in the movies..
This book is pretty cool!
As soon as you start the introduction, you learn that this really is the book for beginners...
It says the times have been shortened, the rests have been extended... adjustments have been made to allow for our different bodies...
Okay, so I will give it a try...

This book is so helpful.
It helps with "terms to learn."
It gives pictures to help show how to do different ways...

The introduction tells you how this book came to be.. Basically, there wasn't a yoga class for "big" people... So, that sparked an idea... and a book was born!
This particular book teaches us about Kundalini Yoga (as taught by Yogi Bhajan)
This is: " Yoga and meditation that is a highly evolved technology using posture, breath, sound, hand position and movement to create an optimum balance between all the body's systems."

The book is divided into three sections:
Part One - Helps with how to practice at home.  (As far as breathing techniques, relaxing and so on...)
Part Two - Helps to decide what yoga/meditation is best for your situation.

Part Three - Helps with mental and emotional attitude.

It states in the book that if you have a hard time withe pronouncing the mantras to head over and visit their site so that you are doing it correct from the start.  It really seems as though they have thought of every excuse that someone might think of as a way to get out and have it all covered in this book!

I am excited to start this... All excuses aside, I plan to as soon as Broxton starts school, as it is a bit hard to relax and meditate with a toddler running around!

  1. I've tried yoga, and my daughter LOVES it, but gosh darn it, I can not get my brain to shut down enough to fully relax. Makes me crazy!
