Keep Reaching Those Milestones! Let @mybabycompass Help! #Giveaway

I admit it, I love to read and more than that, I love to read things that can "help" me be a better mom to Broxton.  If you remember, Marc was deployed basically until Broxton was 13 months old..
During that time, I was "THAT" mom..  We were frequent visitors at the pediatrician..
I was determined that there was NO WAY I was going to have to get in touch with Marc in a war zone to tell him anything bad about Broxton.. and I was NOT going to be a bad mom.. I want to be the BEST mom...

So, that means I had all sorts of books on babies... and Google and I were on a first name basis!!!
I was always online looking to see things and make sure all was okay.
I remember when we go all the time, they would ask if he was doing different things and that he was reaching the different milestones... Truth be told, I wasn't sure what I should be attempting to do with him, but luckily he was doing all the things they would ask...
Now, Marc is home and we do not go nearly as often... I am fine with that, but I do like knowing that he is reaching his milestones..
I also like knowing things I can be doing with him to help him improve.

Enter: My Baby Compass.
I had a chance to review a book from Kathryn Thorson Gruhn.  She actually has 3 books in the My Baby Compass series...

Book One: Birth to Two Years
Each booklet is six pages with developmental milestones on one side and activities to bring out the skills on the other side.  A parent will know if there child is on track within 15 -20 minutes. This  program covers areas of development including: Getting to Know Your Baby, The Communication Process, “Tracking Your Child’s Progress, My Child Did Not Meet a Milestone. Now What?” and an Appendix that tells you how to get help with resources that will give you support. The manual covers topics such  as:
  • feeding
  • routines
  • how babies learn
  • developing speech sounds
  • understanding baby’s cries
  • vocabulary development
  • appropriate toys & activities
  • nursery rhymes
  • finger plays
  • music selections
  • recommended web sites
  • using sign language (144 sign illustrations)
  • parenting resources

Book Two: Two to Four
Each booklet is six pages with developmental milestones on one side and activities to bring out the skills on the other side.  A parent will know if there child is on track within 15 -20 minutes. This program covers areas of development including:
  • individual sound development
  • expanding vocabulary development
  • toddler learning styles

Book Three: Four to Seven
Each booklet is six pages with developmental milestones on one side and activities to bring out the skills on the other side.  A parent will know if there child is on track within 15 -20 minutes. This program covers areas of development including: Getting to Know Your Preschooler, The Communication Process, Tracking Your Child’s Progress, My Child Did Not Meet a Milestone. Now What? and an Appendix that tells you how to get help with resources that will give you support. The manual covers topics such as:
  • maturation of sound development
  • grammar (syntax)
  • speaking and learning styles
  • social interaction
  • creative play
  • how preschoolers learn
  • picking your preschool
  • reading & writing skills
  • cognitive development
  • appropriate toys & activities
  • nursery rhymes
  • finger plays
  • visual & auditory processing
  • phonological skills (66 illustrations)
  • recommended books
  • music selections

With Broxton being three, we were sent the second book.
Two to Four.
First of all, I love that it comes as a spiral binder!  That is just the best for me, depending upon where I am reading, I sometimes like the double page of a book spread open, but most times, I like the single page (and I can achieve that with the spiral binder!)
I also love that it comes with the checklist in the back that can be removed to take with you when you head to the doctor for a checkup!
This book also has age appropriate activities (that is great for any caregiver to use as a tool when needed!)  As much as I love reading, I loved that it also had a recommended reading section!!!!

If you are pregnant, or know someone who is...
You can also just go ahead and buy the whole set of books, as they offer the books sold individually or as a set.  (No need getting the birth book if your child is 5, right?!)
I have really enjoyed reading this and it makes for great material if you have a bit of time throughout the day or at night before bed!
